Early May, 2024. Henderson, Louisiana. A great day using artificial lures for most of the day. Caught over 60 bluegill, 7 sacalait, 2 bass, 2 chinquapin and 1 catfish!! Hope you enjoy the action.
That's my kind of fishing right there! Those were some beautiful fish. You definitely made a new friend for sure. I finally got to go Redfishing in a kayak. Had to paddle but it was so much fun. Tara and I are looking at a few to see if we gonna pull the trigger on getting a pair of them. Great video buddy!
Thanks! Awesome to hear you got out there redfishing in a kayak. Hard to beat. Hope you do buy a pair! I highly recommend the Old Town line (mine is the 10’6” Topwater PDL. It’s called the Sportsman PDL now. The Old Town Salty is also a great one). So many good ones out there but can be too expensive. The Old Town is 1/2 price of Hobie. I did a review video of my kayak and modifications about 4 years ago. You can find it on my channel if you want. Keep it up!! Good luck ahead. Cheers!
BTW guys - watch out for the wasp nests! I saw several large ones and almost had a disaster! They seems to be more on the edge of the boulevard, fewer in the woods to the north. if you don't pay attention you could have a really bad scene....
Thanks a lot. Yep I’ve been seeing a few as well. And exactly as you said… mostly along the edge of the boulevard. Can’t wait to get back out there. More soon!
Yes indeed. I’m gonna keep trying it for a few trips. I’m sure I’ll get that itch for crickets under a cork again soon!! Thanks for watching. Good luck at your end.
Hey man you’re fishing my spot! For real though it’s so much fun to catch them on a little spinner- a lot of time i fish a little bitty grub with no spinner- watermelon red (yum brand). They can’t seem to resist it right in that same area.
That black and chartreuse beetle spin has been my confidence bait since I was a kid. They seem to bite on that when they won't touch anything else. Ponds, rivers, creeks, lakes seems to always produce.
Ditto!! I’ve almost always preferred the black and chartreuse as well. I randomly just grabbed a hot pink curly tail and it did the trick this day. Next time out will likely go back to old faithful. Good luck at your end!
Good stuff Mark, wish we had bream like that in my parts. Have you done any fishing at chopique bayou recently? I remember some of your videos were filmed there.
Thanks Jim. These big bream really about to start biting. Haven’t been to Choupique in a while. Need to give it a try late Spring early Summer, but normally it’s a Winter spot for me. Love that area. Hope you find some!!! Cheers.
@ThePentUpAngler You're welcome.I was gonna put out a youtube video Yesterday , but then I decided to go FishingFirst thirty minutes manage A two to get Close to a two pound white Crappie a 1pound black Crappie and a two pound bass all on a black Beetle spin a good day indeed
Good luck! It’s looking good out there. I think can handle a little rough wind tonight. I normally go just for bream, but there’s been some decent sacalait on beetle spins on the edge of the boulevard.
ended up keeping 16 nice ones, but a little slow at times, with alot of small fish as well. Gorgeous day, but met a guy who also went Monday and he said the water is a foot higher than Monday. 6-7 ft in the woods, a little too high I think.
@toddyguidry3415 Well done Man! Thanks for the report. Much appreciated. Yep it was rushing in the last two days or so. Amazing how much that water can move through there. I’m still learning. Once the woods get to about 4.5 to 3.5 feet with still a little water movement it should be good and full of big ones. Hope to see you out there at some point. I won’t be there until May 20 due to family obligations. Good luck ahead!
Thanks. 1/32 ounce mostly. Sometimes with a bit more wind and/or depth I will use a 1/16. The spinner is a size 0. Fun stuff. Today I tried some mini bluegill crank baits!… very cool and hope to have a video on this soon! Good luck at your end.

The good ole beetle spin!
Always loved using it as a kid. Now back to it. With all sorts of grubs attached.
Good luck at your end!

When their bedding or aggressive the artificials work great. But sometimes real bait is the ticket 👍

Your spot produces some good ones!!
I’m gonna try that small grub with no spinner.
Some hot temps coming. Hope they will still be biting!
Cheers!
