Hello! I'm Kelly and I've had Meniere's disease since 2010. On May 25, 2023, I had a brain surgery for Meniere's disease called a Vestibular Nerve Section and Craniotomy after I exhausted all treatments for Meniere's disease. I kept a private video journal while I recovered from surgery and recently decided to make it public in hopes it would help others go through this surgery recovery. The date this video was recorded is listed below. I'm happy to answer any questions you have or talk more about my experience. Recovering from brain surgery was unlike anything I've every experienced. But I've come so far and I am SO glad I did it. Thanks for going on this journey with me!

When I get these I cannot move my head at all!! If I do I will throw up everywhere and the spinning starts all over again, I have to sleep with my head prompt up in the corner kind of like standing up, it's the worst feeling, I had my worst one in 2014 where I had vertigo for 3 days, I was so dehydrated because I could not hold anything down, not even water and i lost 15 pounds. I also just had one 2 weeks ago, that only lasted 12 hours, but i was throwing up everywhere, I took a cold shower because I was burning up. It's the worst ever!
I love how Benny is keeping close eyes 👀 on you! ❤️
❤you are a good interpretive dancer. Love that song. Big hugs Marloes
❤ that's beautiful that you can dance like that.. I used to love to dance but it's a trigger now along with loud music and colorful lights... I really wish I wasn't me.. but I'm all I've got and fight I will do.. hope you have a wonderful day..
I have menieres and this Cummings july 25 I am getting a steroid injection in my leftear only medication called meclizine help me to work I take it 1hour before go to work the soonest I feel a small symtoms I take meclizine and it go on a y but now I am getting the injection I hope it help me better I feel just like you in the video but putting God fist In faith I'll be ok
I hope the steroid injection in your ear is super helpful! Steroid injections helped me for a time. Super hopeful for you. You can do this. One step at a time. God's got you.
Hey Kelly ❤
Heyy!! Long time no see. How are things?!
I have C-PTSD, BPD, Severe Social Anxiety, General Anxiety, and I just got a puppy I'm wanting to train to be a PSD....Absolutely bawling my eyes out watching this because I relate so deeply but also because Bene is such a good boy.
I replied, but I can't see the message. So writing again in case it didn't post. You are SUCH a warrior! Way to go for navigating so many health issues. Just one of those is so hard. That is so exciting that you are going to be training your dog. I'm rooting for you and so hopeful for the changes s/he will make in your life! You've got this and you're never alone.
You are the absolute double of your momma
I am! :) When I was 20, someone saw a old wedding photo of my mom and thought it was me - thought I'd gotten married.
Do your parents live close by Kelly and are you an only child?
My parents do live close by - a few minutes drive. I have a younger brother.
I just did this prep a month ago. Think I'll go back to Clenpiq next time. It was gross!
It was so gross. I'm not familiar with Clenpiq- is it flavored?
@@IncredibleAnyway Supposedly it's raspberry flavored.
@@elizabethbest6992 Thank you! I’ll ask about it next time.
I felt the same way when I first started the auto injector. It’s actually not that bad.
Im glad you don't mind it. To each his own. :)
What exactly does this disease do to you. I am retired with decades of working with herbs and natural medicines and can usually come up with something helpful. God Bless.
Girl you gave me anxiety lol I have my first dose in the fridge and I hope it helps. I’m on the other spectrum and prefer the auto-inject. I hope this med was helpful for you 🤞🏼
I hope that the Ajovy helps you! I'm glad they offer both options so people have a chioce. :)
Absolutely love how happy you are and you look so joyful!
Thank you! It was the first time I'd been to my parents' house post brain surgery and so I really knew what a privilege that was!
@@IncredibleAnyway You’re so awesome, don’t forget it!
That looked like a nice cozy thanksgiving😊. I like that. Ahw so cute dashie wanted to dance with "grandma.". ❤ Hugs marloes
Yes! I thought that was cute Dash wanted to dance!
Why are they numbered boxes is it like a collect them all kinda thing ?
Maybe a collector thing. My guess is it is also an identification thing because a person picks and chooses which ones they get.
Awe this vlog makes me miss the holidays 5:22
YOu are SUCH a warrior!!! Way to go for navigating so many health issues. Just one of those is so challenging. Excited for you as you train your pup and for the difference they will make in your life. You're not alone.
Aw the wedding dance was adorable you should recreate it ❤ 3:17
Thank you! My dad is not a fan of that type of dancing, but he did it for me and it made it that much more special.
When do your parents put up their decorations 1:06
That is a good question - I'm not for certain, but sometime in early November.
I found your channel after researching about Meniere’s Disease. I think I’m at the mid stages of it. I have so many of the classic symptoms, just not to the severity of yours. Stay strong gf, we’ll get through this together. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😞💕
I'm so glad you found me! Yes, please stay strong! Keep fighting. You are not alone and I'm always here if you need an ear or have a question. Take care of you!!
I've have violent vertigo attacks that last 3-12 hours. I've tried diuretics. Steroids, SSRIs etc. I was going to send g to have surgery but seeing how long your healing has been is frightening. I work full time. Sometimes, I don't get an attack for a few months. In between attacks I have no imbalance at all. I am dead on the left side.
Oh no! I'm so sorry you were having a violent vertigo attack when you wrote this. Have you been diagnosed with Meniere's? If so, have you tried steroid or gentamicin injections? You didn't mention those and they are usually the step before the Vestibular Nerve Section. Gentamicin is a much less invasive treatment than the brain surgery and does the same thing in a different way. This brain surgery is definitely something to take time to consider and talk about with your doctor. It is a very very long healing time though every one is different, it is longer than I expected. It is not an easy fix at all.
@@IncredibleAnyway yes. I have been diagnosed with Meniere’s for a long time unfortunately. I get violent vertigo and drop attacks. However, sometimes, I can go a whole year of no attacks.
Do you regret have the vestublar surgery?
No, I don't regret having it at all. It changed my life and is continuing to change it. I would've been debilitated and in bed by vertigo every day without the surgery.
He sounds like a man who has met someone else.
Glad the gemamacian shot work for you .I had one in 2014 and it did not work for me .And the only thing that worked was the Labythithtomy but now the Menerier's moved into my left ear now I have it in both ears .Now I get cortisone shots in my left ear .I get migraines in my right ear .
I”m so sorry to hear that you developed Meniere’s in your other ear after the Labyrinthectomy. That is so tough. My heart goes out to you. The gentamicin actually didn’t work for me. I had 9 injections/procedures before we declared they were a failure (usually doctors do 3 max). My inner ear hair cells kept regrowing, so I had brain surgery: Vestibular Nerve Section. Are the steroid shots helping you? Rooting for you.
Wow how many days did you take to make all that thanksgiving food?! ❤ Hugs marloes
I think I started 9-10 days before thanksgiving though I didn't make food every single day.
Some people make soup with the bones afterwards do you 10:20
I do with chicken. I didn’t have enough energy to do it with the turkey after making the whole meal. Would be yummy tho!
@@IncredibleAnyway yeah maybe next year!! Well now 125 days until November 1st when you start cooking again !!
Is that a real meat turkey or a tofu turkey or something else 9:07
It’s a real meat turkey 🦃
@@IncredibleAnyway oh wow . I’m so glad something was somewhat easy as apart of your meal !! Yay 😁
I'm curious to why I am so low in b12 and what's causing it? How do I get to what's causing me to be so low. I'm 52 and never have any problems prior and now blood tests showings I'm very low? I know this video is 4th yrs old help would be awesome
That is a really excellent question for your doctor. No one can really tell you why your B12 is low except the doctor. Personally, we found that my body doesn't process B12 well, so that is why I'm low.
After an vertigo attack when I lost control of my legs and specialists requested MRIs with contrast I was diagnosed with strokes NS (TIAs). I have brain cancer (glioblastoma).
My heart goes out to you. I'm so sorry that you are dealing with brain cancer. All the symptoms must be so rough. Rooting for you and sending a virtual hug your way.
This is exactly how I feel when I have an attack.
I'm so sorry. they are rough.
It kinda looks like a PB & J sandwich 🥪 4:42 but it looks delicious 🤤
It really does lol! It was soooo good.
You need to release your grief. Always
Your a great cook making me hungry. Yummy
Aw thank you! I enjoy it. Made me hungry editing it too!
That looks awesome. Yes a berry sandwich.
Thank you! Definitely a berry sandwhich.
Thank you for sharing. Im suffering sincerely with Menieres I use Meclazine. But the attacks affect my vision. I never expected that part
Ugh, Meniere's is so rough. Did your doctor recommend Meclizine? There might be some other things that help you more if it isn't helping. Yeah the messing with the vision is rough. Cheering for you!
Im proud of myselve this week. For accepting that some days all i need is resting on my bed. 😊 ❤ here you finally started to grasp whas you have been true the past months. Oh wow that are beautiful lyrics❤🕯️🎶 Sometimes sweety you just need music to let go of the rubbich in your head. . Ahw Bene you are adorable 🥰 The cherry pie looks jummy. And i dont even eat fruit 😁 The other pie sounds like a experience me and hub ie had once with a mass made mille foie. It whas gross. 🤢 Big hugs Marloes
Yay! I'm so proud of you too! That is a hard one to accept. Music is so healing for me. Oh wow, you don't eat fruit! Is it a taste thing or a texture thing? Yeah this pie was not good.
@@IncredibleAnyway its a texture thing. Possibly a combination of factors. My chromosome disorder comes whith eathing struggles from birth it seems. (Just joined a fb group with people who have the mutation to or parent children with the mutation). But some textures also trigger trauma memories in me.
Is all the BTS stuff you watch on CZcams / social media or do you pay for like a Korean tv channel or something 1:25
Lots of different places. What I'm watching on this video is a concert on Amazon Prime called "Yet to Come." There are concerts on Disney Plus and documentaries. "Permission to Dance" concert is on Disney Plus. The BTS documentary on Disney+ is called "Beyond the Star." BTS has a CZcams channel called "Bangtan TV" where they have tons of content. They also have an app called "Weverse" but most of the content there are concerts and documentaries that have to be paid for. They will livestream concerts through that app and its where the members will livestream. BTS is also on IG and Tiktok. :) Probably more than you ever wanted to know lol
@@IncredibleAnyway oh wow !! No that’s actually really helpful thank you 🙏🏻
Small win today…we took my golden retriever, Buddy (who is Bene’s twin lol) to get his nails clipped. Is the Paleo diet helpful for you? Sending love and hugs 💖
Yay! That is a huge win! Well done! I switched to eating Paleo in 2017. I was already eating gluten free since 2010. But changing to Paleo helped a lot of the brain fog I was having and some inflammation. Though I will say, in my experience, foods affect us all differently. So while Paleo food plans may significantly help some, it may not help everyone.
Hi Kelly…I went through EMDR therapy awhile back. The therapist used knee tapping instead of eye movements. I did find it helpful ❤
Ah thank you so much for sharing that! I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Hello, My name is Rene and come from Austria..... Österreich.. I have morbus menier.... Can i ask you please. I become gentamicin.....4 peaces 40 mg in 5 days. It was very very hard.... It was for 4 weeks. Now it's damage and i Hope for ever. Have you become 40 mg too? 3 ...4 Peace with Gentamystin ?You are okay forever now?? It was very nice when you can answer me. My english is not so good. CZcams ist translate your answer to me. Match thanks for you for your Videos. Thanks. Good luck Rene
Hello Rene! Thank you for your question. The recovery from gentamicin is very difficult. It will get better over time. My doctor said, the more difficult the recovery, the more the recovery is helping. I do not know how many mg I had. Usually it takes 1-3 injections of gentamicin for the vertigo to be permanently gone. I had to get another treatment because I am one of the rare circumstances where Gentamicin does not help. But it usually helps most people! I wish you luck. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Hallo Kelly, my english is not so good also I have translated with Google. First of all I have to tell you that I think you are really brave. I know how hard it is to cope with Menier's disease. I have been taking medication for it for over 12 years and only now. gentamicin. Four injections within a week. 40 mg 1 ml per injection. The Meniere's is apparently burning out.... So it's almost over.... However, I now had three attacks every day that lasted hours. This could have dragged on for months or a year or two. That's why such extreme therapy was done. You say that you are not suitable for the gentamycin. Is your middle ear scarred? Or did you get too little? You got nine pieces Injektionen in seven years. Thats Not enogh for the end ...the time ist too .fare apart..three pieces within three to four weeks. Or four pieces within four to five weeks. In order not to endanger hearing. My hearing on the left is almost gone and that's why I didn't have to take it into account anymore. That means four pieces within a week. If you only get one a year it can't eliminate everything. You then had surgery. How long did you have dizziness after that? And how do you feel now? Everything gone? And is the pressure in the ear gone? And is the tinnitus gone too? Lots of questions.... I've had constant dizziness from the gentamycin for four weeks now. The balance organ is gone and the right side now has to take over from the left. I hope it stays away. Every time I saw your videos I had tears in my eyes. I felt so sorry for you. That's how it was for me too, but you don't have to watch yourself. You are brave. And your dog is so cute. I had to laugh so hard when you gave him the present for his birthday. How he rolled and was so happy. A real friend of yours. Really sweet. Good comrade. Sorry for asking so many questions. But who else do you want to be with? Many people don't see what you're going through. You don't see a wound. I wish you all the best. And I hope we hear from each other again. But everything is positive. Kind regards Rene
Ó
I'm Glad you are getting better honestly. I have headaches every single day and I don't know if I will get better but I'm hoping for the best. I don't know what else to do again.
Sending warm hugs to you. It is so hard to have a headache every single day. One day at a time is all we can do. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. I don't want give unsolicited suggestions! I'm rooting for you!
Toradol is so hard on the kidneys. It's not safe to use that often, Get your labs done to check Kidney function,. I also have Chronic Migraine. Botox was the worst thing I ever did. My neck muscles completely deteriorated causing more migraines. I know am on daily muscle relaxers. Zomig tends to help as a rescue for me. Side effects are horrible and debilitation but it's better than the migraine. I would HIGHLY suggest trying a muscle relaxer and avoid processed foods. Both seems to help lower the amount of migraine days. There were studies on Muscle relaxers being helpful for migraines in the 90s and they never explored it any further. I wish I would have known that 30 years ago.
I'm so glad that you found something that is helping you when other treatments did not or were harmful to you! All the best in having less frequency and severity!!
You cooked an entire meal by yourself which most people have help with you’ve done so much give yourself credit 8:44
Yay!! Thank you! It felt so good!
The majority of people i know with wheelchairs can move to some degree outside it. Actually out of a dozen plus people i dont know a single one thats actually paralyzed and doesnt have any feeling in their legs. Some cant move them at all, some can stand w/wo assistance walk w/wo assistance etc. Doesnt mean they dont need the wheelchair. So many people that use wheelchairs can do some stuff with their legs. Some truly cant, but that doesnt mean everyone else is faking
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I think the more we create awareness and normalize ambulatory wheelchair users, the less the stigma will exist.

Oh I'm so glad it was helpful!
Did you lose any of the hearing from this procedure?
No. I had gentamicin injected 9 times and never lost hearing. I have a video on gentamicin and hearing loss here: czcams.com/video/WRpFzUIeHrE/video.htmlsi=FpZ6Fn81wAJZEnOI
