May i ask, can still install a nato rail at the bottom of the half cage ?
The Heath Road is one of my favourite biking trails, the scenery is beautiful. And the PPJ is an amazing ride.
Not bad then for just guessing the route! I can’t wait to try the entire PPJ trail.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa some areas of the upper end of the PPJ run along the Ottawa River.
@@bonniezimmerling6938 I have one large loop mapped out that starts in Shawville, goes up towards Otter Lake then head west and cover more of the PPJ along the river. So many places!
Gotta love the Dear Flies …. It’s that time of year! Time to carry some bug spray with Deet
@@owenoiffer I don’t find that they bite that much. It’s mostly the annoyance of them in your face. This was exceptional though.
This is a great treat and thanks!!
June 16 is tomorrow ...
I don’t know what you’re talking about. It says June 14 right there 😉. Thanks, it’s not possible for me to post a video without a minimum of 2 errors.
Thank you so much for the beautiful video! Reminds me of Norwegian slow TV -- human-paced in order to take so much in. Your knowledge of the area's history blends the old and new so well. Nice narration and editing!
Great video! The NCC should propose this as a cycling tour.
Thank you, , this is only one video without any marketing bullshit - just user experience. Thank you again, you helped me to make my mind clear about that lens.
Thanks, I appreciate that. It's always fun to do a video when you have no obligations or agenda.
Thanks Adrew for the review. I have Nikon D500 + 200-500mm, totaling 3.150 kg. Do you think this head is sturdy enough to hold it ?
I would definitely use something more heavy duty for that sized lens.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa Thanks Andrew for confirming.
Hello, what was the mm on the filter?
55mm filter thread on the lens, used a step up ring to use my 67mm VND.
The new pro case is improved. The rain roll cage protects the gimbal. Files can be copied directly from pocket3 without removing the sd, while simultaneously recharging the pocket3
A great idea in theory, and I thought I had found the perfect solution for protecting the Pocket 3. Unfortunately, however, there is one major drawback that I hadn't considered and it turned out to be a showstopper: the case, as a thick, black shell that completely encloses the camera, inevitably causes it to overheat after a relatively short time during longer shots in warm weather (several shots lasting 5 to 10 minutes). This is likely the reason why DJI did NOT provide the Pocket 3 with a fixed protective cover: the camera needs air to dissipate the heat. A "winter coat" like this case considerably hinders cooling and the camera switches off after a while. You then have to take the Pocket 3 out of the case to let it cool down, which is ultimately frustrating and counterproductive. In winter, of course, this case works perfectly and I would recommend it for that use case.
Thank you for your input. I'll keep that in mind for the occasional long-form videos that I make. I tend to take small clips where this isn't an issue to it's good to not get surprised by it.
Nice job Andrew! Thanks
This is excellent!
Hi there! I just discovered your channel and immediately subscribed. In this Instamic Pro Plus video, you showed that it can be used/ synced with a drone. I have a dji mini 4 pro and I am looking for options to add audio to my flight videos. I like what I saw here so, can you please comment or do a video on how to sync the mic with a dji drone. Thanks again for this vid and future ones. Ed
Hi Edmund, the way you sync with a drone is the same way that I use for everything. it’s a very low tech method where once you have the microphone turned on and you were filming, just clap one or two times to create a spike in the audio file waveform. When you are editing your video and audio, sync that audio spike with the visual of your hands coming together, and you will have a perfect sync of the two. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa thanks!!! I just ordered the newest version, the pro plus C... can't wait to try it out. thanks again.
Hi, very helpful review. I just bought the baseplate and must say I’m having the problem of it getting stuck when not perfectly aligned. I don’t have this issue on the backpack V2. Is there a V2 for the baseplate or does it get easier w time?
I believe there is a V2 of the base plate that works better. I’m not sure what the difference is, but I have no issues with my backpack clip. I did have that same issue with V1
Hope you pick this up from an old man just starting out. Really good video and just what I needed, thank you so much. Really well presented.
Great video with a nice mix of scenery! It was a fun day out and it was really neat to see your perspective on the way down to meet up. I'm looking forward to the next part!
Got a GPX file?☺
Oh yes of course. Where can I send it?
So i can use the F38 base on the peak design tripod to have the ''fast attachement'' right? 2:26
Yes you can. I only use mine in that way.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa yes the system is amazing, super fast. I bought the smallrig base for dji rs3, but i'm thinking abiut ti use the falcam f38 in combo with it, so i don't have to buy the falcam plate version. Do you know if i can use it on the smallrig one?
@@kaneda8625I honestly don’t know. I haven’t tried it and can’t picture it.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa Okay, I tried but f38 doesn't fit because in the peak design tripod there are two small increases that don't allow the F38 attachment to be inserted. Maybe you changed the tripod head?
Arca Swiss Mount to put it on the Peak Design tripod is genius idea! Thanks so much! 😀👍🏻
Solid, but too bulky for my user-case. I am hoping someone designs a minimalist case. No luck, yet.
Have you seen their slim case? us.scottymakesstuff.com/collections/dji-osmo-pocket-3-accessories/products/dji-pocket-3-slim-battery-extension-case-us
Andrew, two questions for you. 1. Does the Case prevent heart dissipating from the Pocket 3 and thus cause overheating? 2. How do you safety remove Pocket 3 from this case. Tight fit and a can’t find anything to pull or push Pocket 3 out the case. What do you suggest? Thanks so much for you experience.
I don’t leave it sitting for very long so overheating is never an issue for me. For the version without the extended battery, the camera slides out of the case when the bottom screw is released. I’ve heard of people having issues with this with the extended battery case.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa Thank you.
What is the advantage of the F38 vs a full ARCA based system? I mean, couldn't the same fast cameras<->mounts swaps be achieved solely with ARCA bases and ARCA compatible mounts, without the need for an extra layer (the F38 baseplate)?
You can certainly use all arca Swiss but I’ve enjoyed the single button push to release the camera and the click-in ability for shaky setups. Also being able to convert any non-arca Swiss older manfrotto) has been great for me.
I love new kit but Arca is one less plate on everything.
Thanks Gary!
Great vid Andrew!
Nice vid man! I have one HUGE problem with the 1st iteration of the A7iv cage - it pivots, even with the strap screw tightened, it still moves! I have a baseplate with/for 15mm rods, and the more I attach to it, the more possibilities it has to be crooked?! I wish they'd put both size hole in the bottom of the cameras like it seemed they used to? Anyway, I wonder if the Rhinoceros cage has the same issue? I would assume so, seeing how there is still only one contact screw on the base of the A7iv?
Enjoyed the video. What camera(s) do you use on the bike? I’m looking for one to record front/back. Is it a 360? Rear angle looks wider than front. It looks good. Thanks!
I'm using the Insta360 X4 at 8K. The front and back views come from the same reframed clip. I always zoom in more for the forward facing view so you can recognize stuff, and wider when facing me. You can zoom in as little or as much as you like. The plus side of the 360 is the reframing after but it does add a lot of extra time. Close to double the time of using 2 cameras.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa thanks for the detail!
9:02 Using the 11mm lens, which would provide better low light quality, a6700 + 11mm, or A7CII/A7IV +11mm with Super35 mode?
I haven't actually compared side by side but I think the A7IV is cleaner because of the over-sampling and higher top clean ISO (3200 for the A7IV).
Great video!!! Where did you get the mount for the phone??? Its at 2:34 of our video.
That’s was just cobbled together from an old selfie stick and a cold shoe mount that had lying around. Anything with 1/4 20 should work the same.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa Thanks
Is overheating an issue during extended use, while in this case? Thank you.
The longest I have tried for continuous is 1 hour using 4K. No problem with that.
Thanks good to know. My case is on order. Nice job on the video!
when using apsc mode isnt quality loss minimal because its down sampled from 7k?
No, it’s actually using a cropped portion of the sensor. It’s not taking the full frame, 7K image and squeezing into APSC size.
Great review!
good and straightforward explanations, excellent examples! Thank you very much Andrew! Did you also try focus stacking with this remote?
Does the camera has internal Memory ?
For settings yes, not for images or video.
Great view from the lookout … on the list for this year . Do you track your rides on any apps that you could possibly share? We are more from the GTA but made it up to The K&P and Cornwall / Long Sault in the fall and really looking forward to getting out to discover more of Eastern Ontario this year

Great video! I enjoyed your ride!
you are a hero! enjoy
I met you years ago on a hike. We talked about colour management in photography.
Was that on the hike from P16 in Chelsea?
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa - I can’t remember exactly but Chelsea sounds right, it was 2007. It was with Orla.
@@ChrisTheCuriousDad oh wow, good memory!
Great video! I appreciate the calm delivery! Based on your video, my assumption is that with the ZV-E1 and Dynamic Active stabilization (about 1.3x) it would be fine and a great 14-15mm AFTER the stabilization. Would you agree?
I don’t have any experience with that camera, but my expectation is that it would be perfect for that. I’ve actually wanted to try it for myself. Even if there is a bit of vignetting, you could still crop it out.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa thanks! I might get one 😊
Very creative composite photography. Thanks to your video, I will buy the Sony Commander Remote and experiment with composite photography!
It’s endless what you can do with nothing when you do composites! Your imagination can run away with you.
Nice info 👍
Thank you for the review. The Tamron seems to have a decentering issue on the left side of the photo (ie. bad copy), I have seen that in many Tamrons and Chineese lenses, probably due to lesser QA during production when compared to Sony.
Thank you for a comprehensive review! I like how you favour small and light while everyone goes for the latest and greatest GM/GMii like photography is some kind of a fashion show (but hoping you can review your zoom preference for the 70-200 sector :). And it is nice to see a fellow Ottawan performing a review!
It looks like your A7RIV is out of fokus, giving it an faulty comparison
Thank you for your video! How do you think if I attach one side of a Peak Design Clutch Strap to Ulanzi Falcam baseplate 2269, will this plate fit into the ulanzi bottom plate 2270? Won't a piece of rope get in the way?
Nice case, well designed but flawed in couple of area's - The one I received was so extremely snug I actually struggled to remove my Pocket 3 from the case. I ended up having to completely remove the tripod screw and insert a 00 screwdriver up inside and pushing on the inside of tripod mount of the DJI battery extension pack just to remove my Pocket 3 from the Pro Case (that's a major pain the the backside imo). Also it comes with two coldshoe mounts and a belt clip, but only 2 screws, for gods sake why? The two cold shoes are countersunk to accept the screws, but they didn't bother to countersink the belt clip (so once fitted the belt clip screw doesn't fit flush) - Again Why? The top cover has holes to accept the Mic 2, great I guess but as a result offers absolutely zero dust protection, which is a shame. Finially the supplied wrist lanyard is a little too small for the average wrist, it's actually smaller than the one supplied by DJI. - So close to being the ideal case, but the extremely snug fit totally killed it for me.
Are you using the version with the extended battery? I don’t have that one and it slides out without hesitation.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa Yep, and saying it's a snug fit is an understatement - Which makes me wonder if the Pro Case with the battery extension could potentially cause the Pocket 3 to overheat?
@@Mark_Porter The extended case seems to be the issue. I have seen tests done with the case without overheating, but I haven't run mine in hot weather yet.
Thanks for that review, you really put a lot of interesting details into this, and your diagram gave me all kinds of ideas. I use that lens on APCS 6700. The one unavoidable problem for me, is with group shots, its too easy to make everybody look terrible with the 11mm lens. I'd need a 16mm lens to get 24mm on my crop frame camera. I think so many movie directors use 24mm as their widest frame, because beyond that, stuff starts to distort in all kinds of nasty ways... People tell me to get a zoom, but I'm up on a mountain 6000 feet, serious low light every evening.
