- In this video, I show the benefits and occasional weaknesses of using a stereo microphone vs a wireless or shotgun microphone.
Rode StereoMic Pro - This is not the newest or best stereo mic but it can be found at a reasonable price and it performs well.

Great video, my friend. Until the last seconds, I was wondering if you had tried mixing the 2 so you can control the voice level as well. I like all the ambiance it adds, especially if you don't have a road in the background for that constant rumble. Really like the overhead video of the waterfall with the ambient sounds mixed in.
I am trying to get a microphone for recording music festivals - where the environment is full of loud bass. Im thinking a Stereo mic will probably suite my needs? Thinking that I wont need as much directional audio as the music overpowers the sounds of the crowd around me
At a concert you don’t really get a lot of a stereo effect plus the music tends to be so loud that your mic may not be able to handle the intensity. My first thought is to use a 32bit float recorder and keep the mic high above people screaming.
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa Thank you for the response!!
I use a GoPro w/ Media Mod so I can use any kind of microphone that fits the cold shoe mount for a DSLR/mirrorless camera. I also use a 5ft pole so the camera is well above the crowd
Would you suggest a Stereo mic or Shotgun mic for this kind of environment? Or, maybe a 3rd option Im not aware of? :)
i want to be able to interview ppl without too much backround noise , is this good ?
I wouldn’t use a stereo mic for that since it will pick up sound in all directions. A shot gun mic works for the person being interviewed. Personally I would use wireless mics on the interviewer and interviewee.
