Pricing info just in!
USA: $348
Malaysia: RM1599
In other words same price as B1M and $100 higher than the B10 in the US.
Wow. Too much. G1/B10 for me
It is priced the same as B1M. What's your thought on why is this?
perghh, 1.6k.
The ability to record to channels 3 and 4 in omni mode regardless of what 1 and 2 are set to really blew my mind!
Would you recommend this over the ECM-B1M?
Personally I would take this over the B1M, covers me for more situations. I love that I can just kick it into stereo if I'm not dead focused on recording audio only from directly ahead.
@@zy_cheng That totally makes sense! Thanks 😄
@@zy_cheng does the b1m not offer the same 4 channel option for safety recording? this could be the dealbreaker/maker for me in deciding between these 2
How is the mic handling noise when moving the camera? This is the biggest weakness of most of the Sony ECM mics. The shock mounts are pretty poor! Great review and well presented 👍👍
Also curious about this!
That is the biggest downfall. If you got the mic let us know please.
It is much improved over the earlier mics, does not bottom out.
ZY coming in hot with that new mic review!
Thanks so much for popping by Jason!
This is mindblowing
Indeed😊

This right here is the one time i wished i owned a Sony camera.
You can get a Zoom M3 instead. Sure it's big, but it's 32-bit float and you are not limited to putting it in your MIS hot shoe.
@@piotrgraniszewski8544 I own a zoom F3 and the Zoom m3 which is shotgun mic with 32bit float built in. while i love those products, the amount of pickup patterns you can choose from is on this mic is amazing, with it also being so compact. I would like to see Zoom do the same on the next version.
fascinating audio features
Now I would like to be able to use this mic with my laptop for online meetings and streaming although I know I can't. Imaging a Mi-Shoe to USB C adapter that enables this mic to be a plug-and-play mic for your computer, or even if you have to put it on a sony camera and then connect the camera to your computer, that would be nice. Sony made their cameras available as webcams via USB connection but they left out the audio part, which really is a pitty.
Awesome! Also great job demonstrating the pickup patterns, great video!
it's been awhile since I've been impressed by an on-camera mic but this new sony mic is pretty amazing
Oh I like that!
This is the best ECM-M1 review on CZcams, good job ZY
Amazing feature set. But the audio quality is... not great.
Expect it could be sweetened in post, but that greatly diminishes this product's ease-of-use value proposition. A quality shotgun can't perform this microphone's tricks, but will sound far better straight out of the camera.
Incredible review! Everything is explained super well and the practical examples are great!
Simply the best review I saw for this mic. Excellent work.
Can you do a comparison against ECM-B1M?
Which one is better?
B1M has 8 microphones and 3 pick up patterns.
M1 has only 4 microphones but 8 pick up patterns.
Which one is better in sound?
Perfect thorough demo thanks!
I just bought this as a smaller vlogging/travel mic. I already have the bigger ECM B1M which I ADORE and always get flawless results with. But that doesn’t allow for rear pickup only, which is a feature I really wanted for vlogging in noisy places like theme parks when I’m filming what’s ahead of me and narrating. I am so excited to try it out properly!
This is the most helpful I've watched. Thanks ZY!
Glad it helped! Cheers Chris!
Sadly, no one is talking about distances and the range these mics can pick up sound from. Lets say I want to record a conversation or a speaker from like 20 meters away, how will these sound like? I've watched so many of these videos but no one is testing it or giving any info about this...😊😢
I agree. I want to get a mic or family videos (indoor./outdoors) and multiple use cases. So I want a versatile mic that has range so that I can pick up my child that maybe 10 feet away or so. Is the ECM-B1M the one to go since the M1 may not have the same range? Thoughts? @ZY_Cheng
20m is not really feasible. You’d need to mic the subject. The only thing capable of that is a dish (those things people hold on the sideline of sporting events to pick up the players).
Dude this is so sick
Bruhhhh. The safety channel. I have a B1M and these are the features I wanted.
Bro you've done such a great job on showing us this mic and explaining everything! Thank you so much! :D
Woah, this mic impressed me a lot more than I was expecting. Wasn't expecting to have my wallet out by the end of this video but the simultaneous omnidirectional pickup pattern+safety on channel 3+4 kind of sold me immediately. Great overview.
Update: Just got mine today and it's bloody incredible so far. It's so small but offers so much flexibility, great form factor for gimbal work too. Expected a bit more from the windmuff but maybe someone like Rycote will make something heartier. Either way, this mic is a total non-brainer - this is coming with me everywhere.
Nah, this Mic is crazy, def gonna pre - order, I just got the B10 sadly but this is more of what im looking for.
B10 sounds tinny I don't like it.
@@gigihanmandarin yea I don't love it. I barley use it, def gonna return it in and get the ECM-M1
Hi! I had a problem with the previous Sony ECM-B1M. It actually pick ups the sound of autofocusing from the camera body. All those little focus adjustments sounds like someone knocking on the camera body. Have you ever noticed something similar? Love these Sony mics, but that autofocus sound drives me crazy. I noticed this on the Sony ZV-E1.
Is it a lens specific thing?
@@Minsetti I had the problem with several lenses. It really makes the audio unusable when it happens.
Similar to the problem I had with camera handling...the ECM B1M picked up all my hand movements
you did great with this video, I'm impressed with the mic, but most impressed with how you explain it's feature! Thank you
This is how a review needs to be done. Thank you so much, great job!
What would happen if you plugged a lav into the camera while using this mic?
You are reaaaallyy good at creating reviews! thank you for this!
This mic will be my new purchase for ghost hunting videos. Thank you so much for the review!
I'm assuming that cameras that do not have digital audio through the MI shoe (like the ZV-1) can still use it thanks to the analog switch. but what features do you lose when running it in analog mode?
No 24 bit audio, no 4 track.
super detailed review, thank you very much, recording on 4 channels is great
Fantastic overview. Loved the real world tests!
Definitely getting this. This will be great for weddings! Thank you!
Incredible! Hats off to Sony!!
Does it work on Sony only!?!? I have panasonic.
nope, sadly only sony
Amazing product
Even better review!
Didn’t think I’d buy one but after watching this, that might change lol
Impressive features for the right person. It doesn't sound like a shotgun or anything, but I guess that isn't the point. Cool tech
Wow! Great review and demo! I am impressed. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
As always, wonderfully informative content. Thank you!
Omni backup is awesome.
Hey Zy. I just ran into your great content on CZcams. I shoot Jiujitsu sparring videos, which shotgun mic has longer reach? The Ecm-M1 or the Ecm-Bm1? I speak with a fighter in the shot and was thinking the Bm1 because of the length and more capsules? Your input is appreciated. Regards. Charles.
I would also like to know this information. Which is the best microphone for home videos w/ multiple use cases?
What are the best settings? My audio is very loud on auto mode
I almost always run my mics exclusively in manual mode. I set the levels according to what I hear when monitoring through headphones, or if I don't have headphones on me, I eyeball the audio level meters before each take. It's a bit more trouble but absolutely worth it knowing your audio is safe. I would always rather record a little on the quiet (safer) side rather than risk my recording getting too loud and distorting!
Awesome video. All I can say is "WOW" to this new mic.
Very comprehensive mic and review! Very exciting piece of gear.
very well demonstrated and narrated. Thank you
Great video and demonstrations!
Thoughtful demo. Well done!
I have and AX43A camcorder looking for a better mic and it seems as though a lot of the cameras (like mine) which lack the digital hotshoe compatibility can't record the full 4 channels. I'm not sure how much further of a compromised experience this mic will be for me but I think anyone considering this thing really needs to check Sony's info page for the mic to see if your camera can do full digital or if it's required to be set to analog.
I have a Z90 camcorder that generates 4 channels of audio too. However, there is no such option as "Mi Shoe Audio Set." in the menu. I would like to know how it works on my camera.
This is really really good
How it will work one there are few people talking in front of the camera. And how far you can stand.
Nice review, how badly hits battery consumption? And how good could it be in wedding situations, when ppl are more far away from camera? I like stereo feature if some music is arround or people singing.
Great review very well explained plus demonstrated 😊❤
Is the ultra-directional a mono or stereo file? I'm assuming stereo but also the safety omnidirectional tracks are mono but they capture omnidirectionally?
What about outdoors in wind??
So awesome!! Thank you
Great review, thanks for the info!
No want to record externally but it does not add to the intimidation of your camera.
Will it work with ZV-1 and ZV-1 (Mark 2)? I'm super curious to know this.
No. Same as ECM-B1M and B10
Do we have a price for this?
Good video I like this mic.
Can you please compared to ECM B10? I know the features is a difference but I just wonder about the quality?
Review yang mantap. Channel 3 capture omni tu terbaik. Macam mana dengan build quality? Lebih kurang ECM-B1M?
Is it 24 or 16 bit audio?
Great Explanation!! Is there a big quality difference between stereo on a7IV or a7SIII in camera vs from this mic indoors?
Frequency response spec? Would this work at a K Pop Concert?
Great review!
Super interesting video review. I've got the Sony ZV-E10 and I was wondering if I could use it with this microphone, so what's your opinion about that? Thanks in advance
This might seem like a dumb question I can explain later,
but will the 1/8 inch Mic jack on the side of the FX 3 and A7S 3 still work when you have this mic in the hot shoe?
Great review 🎉🎉i like it
Great review and mic - guess I knew it couldn't come cheap 😁
Might have to snag one
In which situations would or should I use Stereo or Omnidirectional in a run and gun vlogging situation?
Hi, I loved your review, and I am planning to buy this microphone! Though I have a sony A7c which supports digital hot shoe option but I saw there is a usb c option and a digital-to-analog switch. Does it connect to a cable as well if one wants to use it with usb c.
is it possible to use it with a wire if I have to?
Very smart mic.
does this sound better than the rode?
its a really nice camera mic.
I wonder how it performs in windy condition.
I am deciding between the B1m, B10, and the M1 for simply home videos on m a6700. My child is nearly 11 months old and use cases are inside our house and outside. I like the off-axis south rejection (annoying A/C in house, noisy playground, etc.) The M1 is small which is attractive, but the B1M seems to have the best range, which might be nice if I'm filming with a 55mm (or longer) and my son is 10 feet away or so. Which microphone would be the best? Since I don't blog and do not need all the settings (just sound isolation and range), I would love some input. I know the M1 has a better (quieter mount) but I don't plan to be moving too much while filming so this shouldn't be an issue. It's hard to make a selection as it's nearly impossible to test them out prior to buying. Thanks.
If I use this can I record a second source of audio through the 3.5mm input?
So i assume there is no option to get stereo signal and for example lavalier? Have you seen the instructions for this microphone? How poorly it is written? But in truth, this is a breakthrough product invention.Cheers
I need this lol I almost picked up the ecmb10
I have the ECM-B10 and really like it's auto level does this new one auto do the level or do you have to set it?
Cool! Interesting mic 👍🤔
Question, If I want to lava someone with Rode Go II, and in the same time use this mic. Am I able to plugin 3.5mm while using Mi shoe?
Is the shot gun mic recording your breath sound or you breathing so loud
Everytime you twist the knob, the micphone wiggles. is it normal that it wiggles? I'm kinda worry about the mount. Maybe it would be better if they use touch screen on it instead of knob? Sorry i don't have any ideas ragards with microphones.
The wiggling is due to the shock mount, which protects against nois from camera movement. One does not normally change mic settings while shooting.
Love this review! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new mic. I think i'm going to pick one up :)
damn i need someone to make a video to explain the audio-physics of this
it will still record in camera. every mic i used with sony cameras sound like shit, volume keep increasing & decreasing automatically
There has to be a catch. This device can't possibly be that perfect.
Edit: Wait. It ISN'T perfect because it has to use that damn hissy Mi Shoe!
how much will it be in RM?
great video
Merci pour la traduction vous pourriez mettre en sous-titre, la traduction en français ce serait appréciable, car tout le monde ne parle pas forcément anglais !
Is there a trick to detach this mic from the camera? It's always fighting me
B1M and B10 are both recording in just 16bit. Is it the same for M1?
Seemed like it was 24bit
In digital mode you have choices: 2 channel 16bit, 2 channel 24bit, 4 channel 24bit.
What a shame - this mic looks very close to something I've been searching for for a while now, but I don't have a Sony camera with the hotshoe mount.
Fully featured, yet the audio quality itself doesn't sound too good
How does it power?
The camera powers the mic, no need for an extra battery.
