    Hi Andrew, thanks so much for putting together this video. Very much appreciated. As a videographer myself I know the effort and time to create such content. It is very clear and informative. Note : It is possible for mobile videographers to record video with their phone and the Instamic's audio feed embedded into it, using the Wireless Microphone mode. It uses our 48kHz customized streaming protocol so it delivers better audio than the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile Mode (16kHz). But I totally understand your point on syncing audio in post. It is totally worth doing it considering the flexibility to have multiple audio options (Instamic+camera as you have shown), 32-bit Float Audio, Interference's free recording and overall quality in general. . Keep up the great job and wish you the best with your channel!

      Good morning Instamic team, I am trying to use the wireless microphone system but with poor results.
      The video tends not to be smooth but, worst of all, I cannot adjust the microphone to work.
      I always get whistling and strange noises in the recording and the voice is very low. Obviously if I use the manual adjustment and increase the recording db the defect increases.
      I can't find a guide that can help me, do you have any advice?
      For info I use android and have tried with 3 different models.
      Thank you for any advice

    Thanks for the good points about how/why to record separate audio and not be afraid to sync. I'll have to give that a try as I've had a set of DJI mics for some months now. I'm looking at getting an Insta360...that sent me down the path of looking at bluetooth alternatives. Instamic's aren't cheap and so I should start out with my DJI setup anyway. I had been thinking a loud sound at the start should make syncing easy.

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 9 měsíci

      I think that we all go through this process at some point. Once you get in the habit of doing a double/triple hand clap at the beginning of the recording, you find the process of syncing to be trivial. Even the auto sync features in applications like DaVinci will do a great job instantly.

      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi, you can’t record directly onto the camera. I only use the Instamic as a field recorder and that requires that you sync the audio file with the video when processing the video. The plus side is that you can take advantage of the 32 bit float audio quality.

      It’s a minor inconvenience in my case. I can’t beat the ease of use of the Instamic and being able to clip it on with a magnet and have it running in seconds. Running a lavalier is more of a pain than it’s worth 95% of the time.

      I don't have a motorcycle helmet so I can only guess. Externally recorded audio can be synced in post in whichever video editing software you use. I use DaVinci Resolve and either use the Audio Auto Sync by waveform or I look at the waveform from the camera and line it up with the waveform on the recorder.

    Im looking for a mic to record my audio while riding my motorcycle. I will be using the insta360 camera, which I already confirmed will work with the instamic. My question is, how do I sync the audio with the video afterwards? Also, where can I get the wind buff for the mic? Also, you mentioned some devic for removing ambient noise. What was that device?

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před rokem +1

      The Instamic can be used wirelessly with the Insta360 so no syncing is required. If you plan to just record on the Instamic and not wirelessly, you can sync in three ways: 1) the hardest way is to just look at the wave forms in your editing software and match the wave forms 2) most software (like DaVinci Resolve) has an auto sync by wave form function 3) my favourite and most reliable way is to use rapid hand claps at the start of recording and match those wave forms in post. This way takes a couple of seconds per clip and is always reliable.

    Hi there! I just discovered your channel and immediately subscribed. In this Instamic Pro Plus video, you showed that it can be used/ synced with a drone. I have a dji mini 4 pro and I am looking for options to add audio to my flight videos. I like what I saw here so, can you please comment or do a video on how to sync the mic with a dji drone. Thanks again for this vid and future ones. Ed

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi Edmund, the way you sync with a drone is the same way that I use for everything. it’s a very low tech method where once you have the microphone turned on and you were filming, just clap one or two times to create a spike in the audio file waveform. When you are editing your video and audio, sync that audio spike with the visual of your hands coming together, and you will have a perfect sync of the two. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před rokem +1

      You will always get some ambient and it will depend on the distance of the mic to your mouth. For what you describe it will work well. I do prefer to use two separate mics for ambient and voice but that's less practical on a bike.

  • @nickreynolds98626

    I have one that I have owned now for several years. I have two complaints about it. The FIRST is that it needs a time of day system so that I know which audio file goes with which video file. I am using a GoPro 8 Black and a Samsung Galaxy S21, both of which label the file with the date. You have to look at the file manager to see the date and time, but it is easily available. If I use the Instamic to record several audios during the course of a day, it is very difficult to figure out which video file goes to which audio file because the Instamic files don't include that time information. As you note, syncing is easy.... but only when you know which files go together. The SECOND is that using it without the phone app is difficult. I bought it specifically to use in wet conditions, and my phone is often not available. I bought it specifically because it is waterproof. The lights flash in ways that are not self evident, there are no beeps or other indicators that it is on. If you have it in a windmuff or in your clothes it is very difficult to use without the phone app. I use it anyway, but I often miss recordings. I glued a little plastic bump on the "On" button to make it easier to use with gloves or cold hands, but it is still difficult to get right in the field without the app.

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 6 měsíci

      I agree, with the time stamp comment. For some reason I find it easy enough to find the files but if I have dozens of files for a single day, it would be problematic. I have used it for weddings mind you with 12-15 video files plus audio files and I just match them by order.
      I wonder if your button presses work differently. I made my own little wind muff for the top of the mic so I can still see the light and it makes all the difference.
