❗ EDIT: The Instamic actually does have a "hold" feature that you can enable in the app by pressing the "lock" icon next to the record button. This will prevent the on-device button from working until it is unlocked. My bad, sorry I missed this feature in the review.
🧐 In the video I listed a few places I would mount an Instamic to record audio at a wedding, but what locations did I miss? Where else should I be using this thing?!

My fave feature is the dual mono recording mode where you can record one at a lower volume than the other in case anything peaks. Brilliant idea 😍 my only complaint is it makes me look like I’m mooching on my phone during speeches!

Have you looked into mixpre-3 or mixpre-6 series II from SoundDevices for your main audio recording
The great thing about that recorder is they have the 32-bit float pre-amp. Which means you never really need to worry about losing or clipping audio. Just set it and forget it. Awesome recording device with built in time code and up to 10-second of pre-roll recording
One thing I don't get. On min. 4:50 you show a groom from a wedding you shot in 2018 wearing this mic that is supposed to be a new 2019 mic? I'm confused...And you also mention that the tascan can record for 10 straight hours on one battery, while in your tascam review you say that while tascam gives it 7 hours you will not expect more than 4 or something. I'm confused.

I've ordered the picomic 2 Pro, definitely worth a look.
Picomic is another offer from a small French company, and it does wonders too. They had so much success their stock was depleted and customers had to wait some 2 or 3 months for availability. Yet, it offers different features such as a charging dock, doubling as a control center, but includes no 32 bits floating point record option. The version 2 features a good built-in limiter though, and I tested it to be live redording ready. It also offers a locking connection port, for use of an external lavalier microphone (or similar compatible device, such as guitar surface-type microphones).
May I know if the instamic would have some rustle noise, let's say when it is taped inside the clothes or the outer surface has protection in order to avoid that sort of problems?

Can I get the audio from the app. On my phone . It would be so cool to get rid of those receiver packs and I have created a way to use something like this to mic the bride and groom . Thanks for this review. I am also a videographer that travels every, and many times, the sound engineer doesn't have an output from mixer for live feed. I desperately need a back up plan. If I place this Instamic against a loud speaker, would it record "clipping" and distorted audio? Would it record clean audio? Basically, all I need is the sermon from the evangelist I travel with. Thanks.
I have question do I can do live Facebook and streaming 30 feet a way from my phone and playing guitar and singing in same time with video streaming on Facebook on these Insta microphone? Or do you can test that on Facebook with review?
Do you have any tips on how or the best method to deliver a wedding film to the client. Maybe best 3rd-party options that have a dvd burner at economical prices.

@@whoismatt You'll love it. I've started using it as a primary audio source for elopements where speed and ease of use is really important so you're not burning too much time. For full wedding days I still do Tascam DR-10L's, but the Sony is still great to hand or clip on someone who is doing an unexpected speech or toast and for backups.
You can listen to what you have recorded on the phone! I just did. What is the ideal mic gain?
Hey Matt, just a question.. where would you suggest putting the Insta Mic on a bride for the ceremony?
I would try to hide it under the dress a bit if possible, similar to how I would mount a lav mic. You can see how I do that in my how to mic the bride video here on the channel. :)

Have you ever had a problem with the mic sleeve interfering with the handheld mics antenna?
Never, it's super thin neoprene that shouldn't interfere with any wireless signal. I don't think the MicFX company would be in business if it did cause interference haha.

There is an option in app to lock physical button so no accidental touch can stop recording. Other than that I agree with everything said.

You would need to sync it in post manually

You get 10 hours of recording from your DR-10ls?? I feel like I'm constantly changing batteries in those things.
I started using Energizer lithium batteries. They last way longer
Do you have the battery type set to match your particular battery? I've noticed a significant difference in usable time. Mine go easily for 10 hours on the Amazon Basics rechargeable.

Used to use music bed but they copyright strike every video you use their songs in. Premium beat is a lot better.
Hey Austin! Musicbed’s subscription option will automatically remove any copyright claims on your videos caused by musicbed music, it’s really awesome. I haven’t had to deal with a copyright claim since they released the subscription option in 2018

I agree. I was not expecting the price to be that high. I was thinking more like $100 at the most. But I also think it's a bit of a stretch to market this for wedding filmmakers. I definitely like the way it can be applied to musical recording and/or sound effect recording in situations where other mics can't fit the mold, but for wedding films, It doesn't make much sense to me to buy this over another Tascam DR10-L at this price.
*Part of me was hoping you were gonna finish this video by revealing that you recorded all of this audio with the Instamic hidden in your beard.* 😂

unfortunately the instamic is not in white anymore...... lame.
Mine failed after 6 months of not having used it. No USB connection, no Bluetooth but recording and charging seems to work. Its a 200€ paperweight now.
And to be honest: I am not willing to send it away to be repaired because I already had to pick mine up at customs after my initial purchase with a hefty import fee (~35% of the price) and I am not willing to deal with anything that needs to go through customs ever again.
Sorry, cannot recommend. The Tascam DR-10L on the other hand: BUY IT! BUY ALL OF THEM!

@@Instamic I did not submit a ticket because all measures I could take by myself did not work at all and I am not willing to deal with sending you the device at my own cost. Since neither a Bluetooth nor a USB connection are possible, the only solution would have been a hard reset which I tried to perform with no success. I appreciate your (generic) message, but sadly the Instanic is not a viable solution for my work anymore even though I would have loved for it to be one.

169$ for this useless thing? No thanks.... 25$ for a used Olympus WS-812, Zalman ZM-MIC1 for around 9$ and here we go, best audio u need for all the wedding stuff with full audio control on the device, a physical hold button and the needed inputs (except Zoom H4n recordings from the mixer of course). Waterproof? Who cares, the newlyweds will not swim with it and they will propably not stand in rain. I even dont see any reason to buy Tascam DR 10L for over 200$. I'll better spend this money to buy a backup for a Zoom H4n. What kind of quality do you want to reach, what a simple Olympus (or Sony) Voice Recorder can't?
