    I appreciate you giving us an actual easy to understand slow paced, instructional video. I would absolutely love a DaVinci Resolve video so I can understand how to do it in a slow, systematic way that I can improve on in the future. You have a brand new subscriber. Thank you.

    After a few people commented about the free version of DaVinci Resolve not being able to read the 10bit 4:2:2 files, it looks like those on PC can’t read them while those on M1 Macs can. Sorry for any confusion.

    Thanks for putting this video together. I am a rookie when it comes to video and I found that the auto settings never gave me any decent results. Your settings and instruction has enabled me to get started successfully. Cheers! By the way, I had to laugh at the picture of Don Cherry that you captured as you were walking past.

      It’s handy to skip all the trial and error!
      Also, that was a photo of Prime Minister MacKenzie King, not Don Cherry 😅

    I have just bought an Alpha A7 iv. I set my recording quality to XAVC S 4K as suggested but when I go to select frame rate it only gives me an option of 25 or 50, not 24, 30 or 60 as you have here. Any advice?

    👌🏾👌🏾, my a7iv finally getting shipped today. Still lost on what lenses though 😩. Sony 20mm (vlog/studio maybe) and the 24-105 I think it was. Any thoughts? Would like to do photography also but can only afford two max for now. Or swap that 24-105 for a prime maybe?

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 2 lety +2

      I’m biased since I’ve been a photographer for decades and formed a love for 35mm. If I could have only 2 lenses, it would be the 35 and 85mm F1.8. Both are great quality.
      For zooms I only have the Tamron 17-28 and 28-75 and quite like them both.
      After that the 20mm and 135mm F1.8 are hard to beat.
      That wasn’t very helpful was it…

    • @OnMyTrek
      @OnMyTrek Před 2 lety +1

      @@AndrewVanBeekOttawa well I didn’t have that Tamron on my possible list 😅. Think Because I’ve never had one I’m not sure where to start. I’ll check the 35 photo wise, have you done much with the 35 video wise? Maybe I should just buy one lens first use that then get a second so have a better feel what I would want maybe

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 2 lety

      @@OnMyTrek the 35mm is what I’m using for the outro of the video so you can see the focal length and DOF there. I constantly use the 20mm and 35mm for video especially inside where I need to let more light in.

    I only have the option of 25p or 50p. And I have this camera so I wondering why I don't have all those options

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 5 měsíci

      In the menu in screen 41/54 under Area/Date, are you in NTSC or PAL? If you’re in North America you should have it set to NTSC. That should give you the option of shooting in the other modes.

    Thanks for info. I did record using 4K 10Bit and DaVinci resolve just show audio clip, no video. Someone told me I need to pay for DaVinci Studio for SONY A7iV 4K footage.

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 2 lety

      That's interesting. I have been using all of the 4K versions of footage from the A7IV with Davinci and I haven't purchased the studio version. I haven't heard of anyone having this issue.

    • @leonrafael7829
      @leonrafael7829 Před 2 lety

      Thats right. It happened to me. I had to buy the paid studio version. Itis necessary when choosing the 10 bit color depth image quality. It's a pity.

      @@AndrewVanBeekOttawa I am using a PC. And I Google the issue of just being able to hear the audio track but no image file. The same issue happening to a lot of people. I found that if you use 8 bit color is ok but if you use 10 bit then you have to buy the Studio version.

    Davinci in free software will not recognize the Sony video files taken with 10 color bits as commented in this helpful video. You have to get the paid version of Davinci for that.

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  Před 2 lety +1

      422 files only show audio on my pc with the free Davinci Resolve and Magix Vegas 18. 420 recording is fine.
      To use 422 the files must be transcoded
