    What are your thoughts between the A7IV and A7CII? I currently have an A7IV and need a second camera. I love the compactness of the A7CII for travel and everyday shooting, but I worry about the single card slot and possible overheating when compared to the A7IV. Please let me know your thoughts!

    Interesting about trusting Auto Iso. On FX3 I use a variable ND but it's not easy to "ride" during an outdoor documentary-type shoot, especially with radical changes in cloud cover. I'm using Flexible Cine usually at 800 ISO. You're actually the first person I've seen recommending that. Perhaps you should do a quick explanation about using Auto ISO in those circumstances.

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  Před 10 měsíci +4

      I know it goes against what everyone else says but when I’m running though a village with a few seconds to grab a shot before it’s gone I trust my auto iso. Maybe I’ll make a video on that next

    • @seecraig
      @seecraig Před 10 měsíci

      @@JevenDovey A video on that would be great and apparently unique. As a ENG run & gun doc style shooter I've had radical shifts in cloud cover going from complete shade to glaring sun, ruin shots. It's impossible to set up for because if you start shooting in shade you can't at all anticipate how bright it will get and trying to ride a VND is difficult. I'd rather risk a little bit of noise than blowing out most of the shot. This is another reason why Cine EI can be problematic in such situations.

    • @JevenDovey

    Just curious what strength Blooming or Mist filter you were using bc it seemed pretty dominate in most of the shots.. Looks to be at least 1/4 and maybe even 1/2 some times..?

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I use a 1/4 mist when I’m shooting

    • @ekphotography
      @ekphotography Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@JevenDovey Yes, I figure it was about a 1/4. I personally do not go over 1/8 and if needed can add more in post. Otherwise I find it almost distracting sometimes or if I want to use the footage in the future with out the "trendy" softening there is no going back.. Davinci has a pretty good realistic blooming filter.. Nice video by the way, Thanks

    Is there a difference in between SLog3 and S-Cinetone?
    Would it be the same as comparing RAW images vs JPGs in photography?

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Different because RAW and JPEG are different formats that give you more flexibility for editing. However SLOG3 and S-CINETONE can be recorded in the same format but whats different is the contrast and saturation. in SLOG 3 your highlights and shadows are pulled to the middle so you can get more dynamic range when color grading. S-Cinetone has automatic contrast applied so if your image over exposes you can't recover it. If you overexpose if Slog3 you cant recover it either however there is less chance you'll overexpose cause you're shooting in a flat profile

  • @orduenshambe4891
    @orduenshambe4891 Před 10 měsíci +1

    I think cameras with LOG profiles are usually at a higher price point. Would it be possible to show how to use good settings for 8 bit video and get cinematic shots?

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Same thing just replace log with a different profile. If you have to use a standard profile thats fine but you'll need to watch your highlights and make sure you're exposing not too bright and not too dark

    I see you are using the NISI True color filter, Do you or anybody know where to get a replacement of the little screw that attaches to the filter? Mine comes loose all the time and I am sure it might get lost someday... They should include an extra one but they do not. Love the filter but the little handle to turn the filter is quite flimsy.

      @@sleepycatgamer I have had many and these are by far the best in my opinion, No color shift and NO X patterns. I use Genustech for years because I found them to also have very little color shift. But NISI's are worth every penny. I will eventually get their VND matte Box system soon..

    • @ekphotography
      @ekphotography Před 10 měsíci

      @@JevenDovey Yes indeed, I have almost lost it a couple of times, I wish it was a little sturdier bc when I stick my camera in my bag with the filter on, the little stick also rest against either the bottom of my bag or the side and could bend easier I am afraid. I don't think that a wide open aperture (especially 1.4 or even 2.8) looks all that great except in some situations. Why completely blur the back ground if the the scenery is nice looking? To me f4 looks good but 1.4 or 2.8 looks too blurry most of the time.

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  Před 10 měsíci

      Everyone has their own style. For when I want something to feel cinematic I like using 1.4 but there’s way more that goes into the shot besides a aperture choice.

    • @DarrellMartinelli47
      @DarrellMartinelli47 Před 10 měsíci

      I agree I think it is a bit simplistic and untrue to say only shallow f1.4 shots look cinematic. In fact most "cinematic" films rarely shoot that shallow except for certain shots. Cinematic is much more then shallow depth of field
