    Honestly to me the subjects on After Hours were always at worst vessels for the comedy and at best, interesting ideas that could be explored later on(I'm thinking of the Renegade Cut video expanding on your Reganomics Ghostbusters video).

    31:50 last time I check I *do* pay to access the internet. Like most people i also pay for several media subscriptions on top of that access as well as paying for mobile data. It's a great idea and all, but we're already being charged 2-3 times over for fleeting access to content. The fact that people aren't getting paid isn't our fault.

    My biggest instance of the "oh, thank God this isn't just some weird thing about me" was the first time my wife referred to tonsil stones. Suddenly a great weight had been lifted from me, knowing that not only did other people experience them, but there was a common name for them.

    Bitters are essentially flavor extracts, just like the vanilla or almond extract you might use for baking. Roots ARE involved, as are numerous other ingredients (herbs, bark, citrus peels, spices, etc.) and the ingredients are soaked in high proof alcohol. They are a bartenders spice rack.

    It's so weird how you can't just say, "we don't know why this happened." You have to go to "People in Tennessee don't know about regular things!" It's insulting. (And no. I'm not from Tennessee.)

    • @portmantologist
      @portmantologist Před 4 dny

      That's not even kind of what they said. They were talking about people being burdened by the fear that other people don't know about or wouldn't understand a certain thing about themselves, and the relief they feel when they find out that it's actually quite common. It wasn't at all location-specific, and Tennesseeans certainly didn't vault Hawk Tuah to mega-virality all by themselves.

    • @dereklbrink

    One of my favorite cocktails is a Trinidad Sour which uses Angostura Bitters as its main ingredient! 1.5oz Bitters .5oz Rye (high %) 1oz Orgeat 3/4 oz Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed) It is very tasty and not like many other drinks. Also a good conversation peace as most people don’t know what bitters in its own tastes like. Just be careful as bitters is prone to staining

    The hawk tuah discussion is bizarre because absolutely no one I knew (many of whom very online) cared about it at all even a little bit. I would get caught up in the "I don't want to clean up after other people" mindset before I could get to the "I could clean this up myself." I live on the first floor of an apartment building and sometimes people upstairs just chuck their empty bottles and drink cups over the railing on to the lawn, out of sight, out of mind. Then those of us on the first floor can see their trash clearly.

  • @SineN0mine3
    @SineN0mine3 Před 8 dny

    The use by date on medication isn't because it goes rotten, obviously but through exposure to the air eventually the actuve ingredients will become inert. It takes a lot of careful chemistry to create these drugs, they're kept in air tight packaging to protect them from exposure to the elements but those packages have to be cheap and they're not designed to be used indefinitely. If you know you'll be keeping the medication for longer than it's expiration date you should probably divide the dosages into smaller airtight packages and open those as needed. I get the sense that you're probably talking about things like Panadol and antihistamines in which case you'll be fine if they don't work because you don't really need them in the first place. If it's medicine you actually need to survive you should probably pay some attention to those dates. You can also probably just buy less medicine if you're storing it for so long. Usually the pharmacist won't give you more medication than you'll need for a few months so they shouldn't be going bad.

    I do actually often think about Cougar Town and whether every single character would have helped hand over Florida in 2016.*. Definitely not an assumption to hold against them, but I do think it is a good chance to empathize for (fictional) people whose (probable) actions I can't justify. I don't know, the thought's been in my head so long I have to ascribe value to it. *Possibly not Travis, but his young college liberal thing seems like more of a phase and he had a kid in 2015 which would probably have shifted his priorities and social life. Laurie maybe but more likely bc he didn't vote.

    • @EinDose
      @EinDose Před 4 dny

      There's definitely a fun factor in interrogating how characters would vote and why, just as long as you're not doing so out of hatred. The question of 'would Hank Hill have voted for Trump' is a genuinely interesting way to analyze the character, but you can't get too invested in the question.

    • @VilcxjoVakero
      @VilcxjoVakero Před 4 dny

      @@EinDose in interests of having that fun, with apologies for not editing myself: Yes, the whole Hill family either would vote for Trump or in a few cases not vote, and they would barely be aware of the existence of people who didn't, I would think. It's so central to the show that they are pretty tragically stuck in their own bubbles, which for rural white Texans without university educations are all solidly Trumpy. Maybe they liked Cruz in the primary, but Dale was always a Trumper and Peggy would have gotten swept up in the excitement pretty fast; some time in 2016 Hank would have grudgingly admitted that Dale's guy wasn't so bad, and by 2020 they would have considered Trump the people's champion. Well, John Redcorn maybe wouldn't have? I keep thinking about Cougar Town in specific (and my guess is Ted Lasso is similar) bc the cast is basically relatable to its presumably urban left-skewing audience - an ideologically-diverse gang of wine moms and bar guys with some university education who like partying and NBC shows. Hank Hill would likely ground Bobby if he caught him watching Cougar Town. So in 2015 everyone except Bobby Cobb hated Trump. Maybe they liked Bush or Rubio or even Clinton early on; Travis might have been a Bernie Bro in the primary. But that's what makes it weird to think about. That version of that liberal person living in suburban Florida was probably scared enough of taxes, immigration, and disagreeing with their neighbours that they all probably voted Trump in Nov 2016 too. 2020 is a tossup for some, maybe, but they're still probably Republican on most of the rest of the ticket; I would think same goes for 2024. But I think it's not *just* fun, and it's not about cancelling anyone (at least for me). I think it's the cognitive dissonance of seeing someone I identify with casually doing something I identify strongly against, like seeing a Reagan sign outside Winona Rider's house in Stranger Things, or thinking about the grannies in Nazi Germany knitting swastika socks for their sons at war, or really the entire movie of Starship Troopers.

The ranger guide was telling us all about their habits, how you have to drive very cautiously because they jump out onto the road (there are "Beware of Cassowary" signs on the roads, like we have beware of deer signs), and one of them did! Stood still, glaring at us for a few seconds, before it took off into the forest again. Very magical.

    Ugh, I'm from Southern AZ and live in Phx. I hate Tucson (and intentionally skipped over it after highschool) specifically for the reasons Soren outlined about the desert -- bright, no shadows, overwhelming light and heat. I understand these things are present everywhere in AZ, but at least Phx has the urban planning to at least try to better incorporate stuff like trees and parks or maybe how different streets/buildings are spaced. Or maybe people (property owners) in Phx are more creative with their landscaping, so in most of the highly populous portions of town don't feel so overwhelmingly "desert" (and less so as areas have more... "Affluence", which is... Eh). Maybe I like the things that "aren't the desert" but I do like the various aesthetic influences that come from this region (including ways it's been iterated on or blends other places aesthetics). I feel like there's more variety and density here, so things at least feel more interesting, street to street or neighborhood to neighborhood. ...but I get that it's hard to be here (Phoenix OR Tucson), even if you're "used to it." I just needed to get on my "Phx is better than Tucson" soapbox for the month. Surprised that this was where I got to do that. (Edit: I do love monsoon season in Tucson and south. Phx just gets haboobs and it thinks about raining but can't. And that said, Tucson and Southern AZ looks a lot greener after monsoon season. Drive down I-10, go to Bisbee or something, in like August.)
