Welcome to Way of the Wrench, a channel that is dedicated to creating entertaining and educational videos about anything and everything cool in shop class. Metalwork projects, fixing/modifying vehicles, welding, arcade cabinets, medieval armor, pulse jet engines, miniature engines, go karts, and much more. My entire life has been spent learning new skills and now I would like to share my skills and experience with my viewers.
I love this stuff so much, I decided to go into the trades and become a red seal Tool and Die Maker (a Machinist that makes stuff that makes stuff like molds, punch presses, and machines). I am now a high school Technology Teacher and my job is to get people excited about working with their hands, making cool projects, and connecting theory to real life practical applications in cool and meaningful ways. When I am not making stuff, I teach Metalwork, Automotive, Welding, Drafting, Woodworking, Robotics, and Electronics. Wanna learn how to make/fix cool stuff?

My steering wheel vibrates when i go over 80-85km and a little clicking sound just started from my front passenger side.. I hear it mostly when im driving slowly what could that be ?
Could be a wheel out of balance but if the clicking is speed dependent, then I would check your wheel bearings. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
On my 03 Saturn L200, my passenger front wheel area is shaking both on acceleration and at highway speeds. The outer tie rod, ball joint and CV axle all have been replaced. There’s no humming, but the wheel assembly itself is loose, so wondering if the hub is bad? Previous owner smacked a curb @40 mph and blew the rim and tire before I bought it and I’ve replaced those as well of course.
Could very well be a damaged hub or warped rotor. A dial indicator on a magnetic base can show you out of round/damaged parts as you spin the wheel or hub. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
I am a wannabe DIY guy. Your videos are so thorough and informative! From PC hardware and setup tutorials, to woodworking, to vinyl, I have learned a TON from you! Mad respect!!! Although it did take me a minute to realize that dekkels were decals. (Kidding) Honestly, thank you SO much! You da man!!!
Hey you keep watching and learning from me I'll turn you into a legit diy guy! I'm glad you are enjoying the content and loving my teaching style. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
Very informative video. Good idea with the Matrix holder.I will try to make the holder with the 3D printer. Is the cover of the Matrix acrylic glass plate tinted ? Thanks
Thanks, glad you liked the video! Yes it is a tinted piece of plexiglass from a local plastics supplier. Thanks for the watch and enjoy the series!
You did a pretty good job with explaining it and demonstration been doing that for career and teaching it for twenty five years thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge with everyone.
Thanks Bob! I try very hard to make the best videos I can share my experience with people. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
When i accelerate it sounds like the wheel of fortune ticking type noise while the wheels are moving only. It’s coming from the front i can’t tell which side. I just replaced the rotors and pads. Could this be my issue ?
Maybe jack up the front and spin each wheel to see if you can replicate the sound and see if there is something making the noise. I have a road test a wheel bearing video you should watch too. Thanks for the watch!
Can I do this to my Toyota Tundra I have both wheel bearings for rear. Some said I’d have to press the bearings in
It depends on the vehicle, some have wheel bearing hub assemblies, some have pressed in bearings, some have bearings that can be hammered in and out, and some require a slide hammer to remove too. You'll have to take a look. Thanks for the watch!
Thank you. You have demystified the installation of drum brakes and given me confidence to do it myself. I am a newbie so I wasn't that confident until I watched your video. I feel like I attended a 101 class for drum brakes. Kudos to you.
You are very welcome! Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate my teaching style. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers!
Was a very difficult job getting the first one off. Finally found a really sharp edge chisel and got a tiny crack behind the bearing housing. That was enough to loosen it and it came off with a hammer. I tried all of the utube videos.
Yeah they can be a chore sometimes, especially if you live in a salt belt. I'm glad you were able to do it and that you finally found my channel. Lots of pearls of wisdom here. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Awesome!!! Will you be mounting the display lower like you did with the original, or will you flush mount it and make use of VPX' POV features?
Right? I haven't decided because I'm doing this differently this time, I still have to get my lockdown bar and put the monitor in and see. I think I will still put it down so there is room for a matrix but we'll see. I personally feel that during game play, I don't "see" the area not displayed....too busy hitting my shots! Thanks for the watch and enjoy the series!
Hey Bro - great Video - can u share the measurements of your backglas and playfield glas?
Everything you need to know is in my install pinball glass video.... it's a good one! Enjoy!
EricThe Car Guy says that's how you check to see if your alignment parts are good or not. When you check like you do, is it possible that the movement is because of the linkages?
To check for steering components, you check for play left and right. For suspension components, you check for up/down. For bearings, you check up/down and left/right. Looseness in all directions is either a wheel bearing, loose lugnuts, or both steering and a suspension component. Hope that helps. You should check out Eric's how to jack up a car video. Then check mine. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

Fantastic video, thanks! I was just wondering why you daisy chain the 12V power on the amps VS connecting each Amp to the 12V terminal block. Is that just to optimize and simplify wiring?
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my teaching style! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Yes, I daisy chain the power and ground to save room and make a cleaner look. If I remember correctly, I used 16 gauge wire so there were no issues with voltage drops. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Yes! Yes! Yeeessss! Your VPin build videos are phenomenal Emil. They really are the gold standard for a DIY VPin build. I can't wait to see what improvements and/or changes you make to the new build. Let's GO!
Yay! Thank you! I really appreciate your kind words as I work very hard to make the best videos I can for people. Yeah I'm pretty stoked to start this build, it's gonna be awesome! Just found another sponsor for the series too and it's a big one! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers Jason!
Thank you so much. That was so educational to a non mechanic. That's what was wrong with my car. A nice boy at the tire shop diagnosed for me as he was doing an alignment. For me a clunking sound was heard whenever I did a particular low speed turn. It was inconsistent and was misdiagnosed as a suspension issue so I'm hoping this fix will do the trick! Oh and you're really cute too.
You're very welcome! Glad I could help you out and you got it figured out. Well shucks....thanks, my wife thinks I'm a keeper too! Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
Excellent!

Awesome, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my teaching style! I made this video for my automotive students during the pandemic when we went to online learning. Where do you teach? Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@@wayofthewrench I teach at West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah KY
I'm making slots for t-molding for some plywood and the router bit in using is a 3/32 for some 1/2 black molding. I cut it to what I think is perfect but the molding never catches the groove on the inside. It says it's the right size but it's 100% loose. Once again using plywood.
I believe that it is supposed to be 1/16" slot not 3/32", just look at tmolding.com for what you are supposed to cut for that specific t molding. I just looked at the video and the part number is good but I did put that it cuts 3/32" and it should say 1/16" . I'll have to fix that. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!
I finally found you
Yaaaaah! I glad you finally found me! Welcome to the channel!
So awesome! This time around I hope to build along with you!
Sweet, hope you brought your wallet....lol. enjoy the series! Cheers!
Hi, i really like your videos and you inspired me to start to build my own pinball cabinet. My only worry with that is the crafting part, especially the metal workings like in this video. I dont have any experience with that, or any tools to learn it. For woodworking i will work together with my father in law, so he can support me with that. I am an IT guy, so the wireing and configuring of components will be no problem. What would you recommend me to do? Buy premade ones and plan the cabinet to fit the bar? Im really excited for hours now, watching almost every part of your journey and meanwhile its 2:40 in the morning here in Germany. The end result looks so amazing that i am a little intimidated to be honest. I hope my cabinet will look half as good as yours.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the channel and I have inspired you to build your own. I would honestly suggest you guys try to make everything yourself. Remember that you could make a wooden lockdown bar if you wanted or just buy the parts you can't make. Between your father in law and you, I'm sure you can make an awesome vpin cabinet! Good luck and enjoy your build! Prost!
@@wayofthewrench Thanks for the advice. Maybe i will ask a metal shop in my area if they can build one for me when i have the measurements ready. May i ask how many weeks/months it took to build? It looks and feels like many many weekends 😅 My mother in law has wanted a Indiana Jones table for a very long time, but a original one in good shape will go for 12-15k Euros over here. Thats another reason what started me on that topic. But nonetheles i'm very happy i found your channel. You definitly got my sub. Is it ok to get back to you if i got any questions down the line?
Wow! I was waiting for this to start building my own ''no budget'' virtual pinball. I can't wait to follow you, thanks so much for all the great work. I know how much filming is slowing the flow of work... Thanks for taking the time, I really appreciate it!
Awesome, should be an awesome series and if you follow along, you'll have a great vpin when you're done! Yes! The filming and editing consumes my life these days but I do it for you guys so you have awesome content. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
Question. 2017 Mazda Miata, open diff, rear wheel drive. When rear of car is on jacks and I spin the wheels, the diff moves side to side and there's a clunking from wheel and difficult to spin. Don't feel much play in the wheel itself. When driving no howling sound, but hitting bumps make a creaking sound in the rear, reversing slowly makes creak sounds on uneven ground even if stationary in Park with car running. Seems weight dependent like if a passenger sits in the car it gets louder. Also happens on hard right turns with enough weight shift, doesn't happen on left turns. Suspension is all good, bushings are all good. Any ideas? Please tell me this is likely a wheel bearing.
Sounds more like a anti roll bar bushing or end link to me. Try driving over a speed bump at low speed dead on and then again at an angle. If it makes noise like a creak when at an angle, it is your sway bar/ anti roll bar bushings or end link. Hope that helps!
@wayofthewrench Roll bar bushings and end links seem good. BUT when I grab on the passenger rear Axle and push/pull on it, it does move slightly and clunk inside the hub and diff. Driver side doesn't do this. Should I replace that axle or hub/bearing assembly?
Looking forward to the new series! I'm really curious to see what you use for RGB buttons, as I have yet to find some that I like. Also, am I crazy or did you mention putting in a LEDwiz board on the first machine, and then skip it?
There's a bunch of options but I have MX led boards from Arnoz that I'm going to try. No no, your not losing your mind. I did purchase an ledwiz board and groovy game gear frosted RGB buttons to put into totan so I do have options and might use those in totan after. Thanks for the watch and enjoy the series! Cheers!
I could never find a good concaved LED button, ideally either with a leaf switch or a MX Silver switch, but I'll try some from Groovy Game Gear - I had never heard of them and on paper it looks good, so thanks for that! I really enjoy your style of video, so I'm really looking forward to this new series. Since you had previously asked for content suggestions, I have a few to consider: *LED-Wiz - overview, configure/use *Network game management - since you'll have two cabinets, using one machine or a NAS to store all the tables, PUP files, etc. (shared high scores should work?) *Creating your own DOF effects - I know you mentioned the possibility of looking into this, but perhaps not a lot of people would be interested in coding aspect *Setting table POV, applying to all other tables *Jukebox setup - there's been a lot of talk about this one recently, but people are having a hard time finding resources and downloads * Tables you recommend - maybe even just give us one table suggestion per video (I only recently got around to Batman '66 and it is awesome with DOF lighting)
If it shakes up and down and side to side it could also be loose suspension parts (tie rods and ball joints), not necessarily a bad wheel bearing. Seen it many times. You have to look at where the movement is coming from
Yes you are correct, up/down is usually suspension components and left right is steering components. Both up/down and left/right can be bade bearing, loose lug nuts, or suspension and steering components. Thanks for the watch!
What is the little blue screw driver (not drill) you are usiung to drive screws?
It's just a little battery powered screwdriver. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench lol very helpful.
How can you find out which one is bad?
You check all 4 wheels like in the video. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench thank you
You're welcome, hope you can get this figured out. Cheers!
Well there goes another 2 years of your life ... Down the drain. Bring it on!
Down the drain? Nah, good times were had. If anything I GET to do it again. Thanks for the watch and enjoy the series!
how do i find the serial number for my sainsmart 8ch
You don't need the serial number if you're only running one board. If your running more than one, you might need to find that out. There is a program in the folder you download for manually operating the sainsmart board (it's in the video). This program will open the board and spit out the serial number. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench still cant find it ive watched everyone of your lessons but at the time i was only adding 1 board youve inspired me to hook 2 -8 ch MAYBE IN YOUR NEXT LESSON
what you need isn't in the video I made, the program you need is in the sainsmart board download folder that IS in the video. In that folder is another program that you can open to get the details of the board (serial number). I originally did that for that video and then found out you only needed that info if you had more than 1 board. Hope that helps
@@wayofthewrench still cant find a serial im a fool obviously because google doesnt have a person other than me asking so i could find it i went into folder where drivers and configtoil is inside documents lash 8ch board setup but nothing that lists a sainsmart serial thanks for fast reply but maybe ill have to add one when im more alert

Ok ,,,um,,rrrrr. 1/4 way through my first build and have been acquiring parts based on your recommendation from your first series build. Would you recommend I just stop and wait for your new series to see what new technologies I can use ? I only have pc and my cabinet built so far. Cheers. Matt.
Hey don't worry, there's absolutely nothing wrong with how I built my budget build, in fact like I stated in the video, I'm keeping my old one to play on. The only thing I'm doing is building another vpin with different parts so that people know how to install these parts. The other thing is this vpin is a big budget so I can have 4k 120 Hz capability. If you already are planning on a 1080p one then you're golden! If you want to use different parts from Arnoz or Cleveland Software then that info is coming. Good luck on your build and thanks for the watch! Enjoy the series!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Super excited about your new build! YOU ROCK! Do you know what the ballpark cost of your new build will be? Why did you go with 42" over 48"? I've been thinking about building one with a 48" OLED but am wondering what the cons would be. I think I will start my build and build along with you, well... I'll run 2-4 videos behind you. =D
Me too! Thanks bud! Well it'll be more than a 1980 Honda Civic and less than a 2024 Honda Civic....lol. not 100% sure as I'm still applying for credit....lol. it's more...the PC alone will most likely be $3000 and the playfield is $1500. I am going with a 42" so I can use a widebody flatpack which will be a loose fit and have room for aled strips and a matrix. I will put a 48" OLED in my totan cabinet later. That would be cool to build along with me, if you do, send me update pics! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Enjoy the series!
@@wayofthewrench Hah! Well, 3K for the PC alone? That's probably overkill don't you think? Or is that the point??! Half that would probably still get you 4K 120hz with all the bells and whistles. But.. this is an overkill build, eh?! =D Funnily, I put a 48" OLED in my arcade cab in portrait orientation. 43% of the display is hidden behind the marquee and cab body. Was worth it though. Before I did that, I did test play vpins for a couple of days, just absolutely jaw-droppingly gorgeous... especially with the more vivid color modes. Especially totan!
you gotta remember that I live in the land of frozen wasteland (Canada) and that's in Canadian. It's waaaay cheaper in the states.
Now how about it you hear a jingle noise variable with speed, checked both fronts no weird clunking noises side to side but up and down has couple mm of play and a little squeaking noise
The cv joint on the back side flexes when I move the wheel up and down
Up and down play will be suspension components, take a prybar and check for play on upper or lower ball joints and or strut mounts or control arm bushings. Make sure it's jacked up and get someone to help you with a light. A jingle could be something stuck in the tire like a small section of chain. I had this in a customer car tire this year. Good luck!
Yeah I have a noise when I am going really slow and going straight or turning right any ideas?
Is the sound speed dependent, like it gets faster the faster you drive?
great video. The best. Thank you. I am looking for a drum to disc conversion video for my cj5 year 1977 (front drum brakes). I hope to find the appropiate video for this task.
Thanks! Glad you found the channel! The swap should be pretty self explanatory as long as you have a kit or all of the parts. The main differential axle tubes should have a spot for mounting the caliper bracket if not then the kit might require a part to be welded on before the install. Remember that other components might need to be replaced like a proportioning valve etc. Hope you can get it figured out. Thanks for the watch!
How do I brace brass or should I solder it 4A Plumbing connection?
I don't do a lot of plumbing but soldering is the most common method. They might braze it if there are gaps in the connection or if the fitting materials are dissimilar. There should be a good video out there for the soldering. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
I have a question?? you mentioned {approx 33:14} into vid that the distance should be about 1mm or 0.5" {would 0.5" be 1/2 an inch} away, when I checked 1mm = 0.0394" sorry for being picky but last time I did brakes didn't have that tool your using {do now} and should it not be from tightest diameter {measuring drum}, rather than biggest diameter, reason I ask, if drums are out slightly the biggest diameter would cause tighter ones to cause heating and possible brakes sticking {seizing}
There should be 1mm of clearance between the inside of the drum to the outside of the shoes. This would be .5mm per side of clearance. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@@wayofthewrench THX so much for the reply, I have been recommending your video to all my friends who have some sort of drum brakes {whether lt's all around or rear only}, looking forward to seeing more vids by you, keep up the great helpful work again THX.
Awesome, thanks dude! I appreciate that!
Hi what type of paint is it. I used water based paint but when i touch with wet hands it smudges off.
It is in my long version of the painting of the cabinet in the raspberry Pi arcade cabinet playlist. Thanks for the watch!
LOVE !!!!
It's gonna be awesome Arnoz! Thanks again for sponsoring your parts! Cheers!
already looking forward for the next video! good luck!
Right? Well I should have the flatpack any day now and then I'll start! Thanks for the watch!
Awesome news!! I discovered your channel on Friday and finished all 50 episodes of the first build by Saturday night. I’m hooked!!! You should do a collaboration with jays 2 cents for the ultimate vpin pc build. It would be great!
That's super cool! Good on ya for binging my channel! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. That's not a bad idea, I should send him a message. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!

For me its up and down movement, But everything else is good, lower control arm, bushings, inner and outter tie rod and strut is all good. My CV axle does have play in and out plus up and down at tad. Not sure if its bearing or axle.
You may need to use a long prybar to move the play and have someone else look for where the play is. Usually CV axle wear is if you can rotate the shaft back and forth or you have clicking during slow full turns. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
What about using carbon ark for the heat ?
Yeah you can use that for the heat but it's been years since I've seen that around. Pretty simple tech to hook up to an old buzz box though. I've heard that you should try it with an inverter machine, something about frying the boards inside. Thanks for the watch!
The best video ever you just shared a masterpiece with us thank you very much for this invaluable step-by-step procedure on how to safely and properly use all the equipment to lift both designs of cars.

I'm looking forward to this series! And based on the last VPin series, we are in for a treat!
Yeah it's gonna be awesome! Thanks for your support for the channel! Enjoy the series!
Cool look forward to the new series
Me too! I can't wait to start! Thanks for the watch. Enjoy the series!
Love this - well done- I can’t wait to see the new videos coming about VPin
Thanks, yeah I can't wait to start the build! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
The video should have background music so we dont have to hear what your saying. When you start the video can you share some things about your life, your other projects around the house, take some time talking about the weather so your audience doesnt feel left out. Most people like to have extra jibber jabber and not getting straight to the point!
Lol, so you don't have to hear what I'm saying.....lol. you're a funny guy. I gotta laugh because this video is literally 6 minutes long. If you can't handle this one, then you shouldn't look at any of my other videos. I'm here to teach people and I'm sorry you didn't learn anything from my video. Please send me your receipt for full refund...oh yeah, it was absolutely free. Well good luck on your learning journey!
Also, is there anyway you can add some pop ups on the screen? Maybe some advertising or even a few political ads
I heard Trump ads are good for profit....
@@wayofthewrenchpeople are mesmerized by extreme stupidity
Oh. Sorry for being sarcastic, great video because it was right to the point and saved a lot of time.
Just did 2012 highlander wheel hubs and have ABS warning now. Faulty hubs?
Did you plug the wheel speed sensors back in? Did the new hubs not have a wheel speed sensor? Perhaps a wire for the sensor got pinched or damaged during dssy?
@@wayofthewrench I did plug them back in. By way of diagnoses I think I'll replace both wires to be sure they are good
If you can. Most are built into the sensor.
