- Episode#50 Custom Virtual Pinball Cabinet Tutorial Series Extravaganza!
In this video I show you everything I did to silence vibrations from my SSF and shaker motor and how I adjusted all of my settings to get more realistic nudging on my virtual pinball cabinet. There's a lot of cool stuff in this video including how to slap nudge with my new nudge settings!

Another cabinet? I loved following the first! How can you possibly get another even better than the first!.. can't wait!
Yes sir! It's gonna be a big budget build with a bunch of different parts and different techniques. Stay tuned!
All your videos are so so helpful. Thanks for taking the time to post these and adding so much to the Vpin community. It’s great.
Next up needs to be a 42” C4 and video card install for 144Hz. Get a sponsor and show me how to do it!
You're very welcome! Happy to be a part of this awesome community! Yeah that's the plan, I've started getting sponsors for the next build. A LG 42" c3 is ready to go. Stay tuned... Thanks for the watch!
For tilt sensitivity the best setting is to completely disable it and use a real physical tilt.
It costs very little and can't be more realistic because it's real.
I totally agree and this will be a future video for sure. Thanks for the watch!
Yet another awesome video , really helpful, thanks Amil :-)
Glad you enjoyed the video, hope it was useful. Cheers, Emil.
Great vids as always, thanks to you I have my own cab now and love it. Thank you for providing such a great and detailed series. Keen to see the new build :)
Awesome, glad you enjoyed the series and I was able to help you out with your build! Yes, the new series is coming soon! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
One good thing to keep in mind for anyone watching this video and thinking about perfecting the accelerometer and how it works with the cabinet is to keep in mind your cabinet has to truly be built as close to a pinball machine as possible. I somewhat made a mistake using melamine which is a bit heavier, and custom built metal legs. What I learned is that the legs are purposely built with an angle that prevent the cabinet from continuously wobbling after a good nudge is applied. If the cabinet continues to wobble the acceleromater will pick up all that and nudging doesn't feel as real. Make sure your legs, and cabinet weight are where they should be.
Yeah that's true! I noticed that the new parts I used did help with this return motion a lot. It's still there a bit but way better. Thanks for the watch!
Even though I've had my full Dof cab for a couple of years now. I still loved watching the videos.
Very good, informative series. Love the details. The work of the cab. Excited for what you have coming. If I ever build again I will certainly take ideas from here
That's awesome to hear, glad you enjoy the content! Vpin's are a pretty awesome hobby. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers!
Maybe they should experiment with replacing the accelerometers with pressure sensitive slap or tuch pads on the side of the cabinet near the bumper triggers?
That's an interesting idea but would probably have issues with gauging how hard you're pressing. Thanks for the watch!
Great video! Your series of video's have been a blessing! Thanks
You are so welcome! Glad you are enjoying the content! Lots more to come!
Awesome. Can’t wait for a new cab series!
Thanks! Yeah it's gonna be awesome! Lots of amazing companies have already jumped on board so it'll be a new series full of valuable tutorials and new products. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers!
Thanks for the video. Great series. I appreciate the time you take on sharing all the tips.
You're very welcome, I'm just happy that people are enjoying the content and I get to be part of this great community. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
As always, great video explaining a tough subject an easy and entertaining way. Nice job Emil!!
Sweet, glad you appreciated the video, these take soooo long to produce so it's always nice to hear from subscribers. Thanks for your support for the channel!
Thank you so much for this video's! I'm in the process of building a cap and every video is just on the spot of things i really need to know and can not find anywhere else. So much appreciated!
You're very welcome, glad you're enjoying the series. This is exactly what I was hoping this series would be, everything you need to know in order to make a vpin. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Awesome video! Thanks for the info!
You're very welcome, happy you liked the video. Thanks for the watch!
Carbon is used to make brushes in electric motors. It's what transmits current to the rotating part.
It's a really good conductor. Good thing you tested before mounting it.
Yeah I never tested carbon fiber for this but it makes a lot of sense that it is conductive. I was just paranoid about frying another kl25z board....lol. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Awesome video! I'll be doing these tweaks on my new cabinet and then probably this fall on my first cabinet. So helpful! Thank you!
Sweet! A new cabinet eh? That exciting! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Great video - glad to learn about nudge adjustments. To date, settings seem to be nearly off for my system so looking forward to making adjustments. Thanks for tips on starting values and all the time you invested.
Ok - you got my attention on a new build. Super excited to start the new journey!
Thanks Bruh! Yeah it'll take some time to dial it in but it should be quicker with this info. Yeah me too, big budget 4k build should be awesome! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Can really see the low refresh rate of 60hz, 42" 120hz oled is where it's at, although I don't have one in my cab yet.
You're also seeing the camera recording not syncing with the 60 Hz frame rate. I literally just bought a LG 42" OLED C3 for my next build, I'll eventually upgrade this vpin to a 48" version too. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench Nice can't wait to see your opinions on the difference.
Yeah me too!
Would be cool if the next one also had arcade and maybe video jukebox
Yeah it would. I'll try to add it in the next series! Thanks for the watch and your suggestion. Cheers!
the best thing to use would be
hard drive decouplers out of rubber
Cool, I'll have to check those out. Thanks for the tip!
@@wayofthewrench no problem you can also search for HDD Vibration dampers or HDD anti Vibration screws . Theres tons of different products specifically for this purpose . This was a huge problem back in the day before SSD were a Thing.
Thanks!
wonderful! Thx for this now i know how to setup mine :D
Glad I could help! Vpin's rule!
Thank you.
Thanks to you, I now know that I don't know much :-)
It would be great if you started building a new pinball machine.
You're very welcome. Hey, keep watching and you'll know what I know......lol. yeah I'm looking forward to the new build too!
Hi! Love your videos!! Any idea on the timing of your next virtual pinball build? I was trying to make a cabinet like yours for the LG OLED playfield you just bought, but I couldn't figure out how to sit the playfield properly in my design to avoid the flipper buttons -- so I'm VERY curious as to how you're going to proceed. Thanks!!
Thanks, glad you are enjoying the channel! Still collecting sponsors and just purchased the monitor ( 42" lg OLED C3) so it's coming but might not fully kick in until September. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
Btw im also adding a led pixelcade as a real dmd at the place of the matrix. Its a real nice add to the cap i think
Yeah that would be cool! I'm going to try HD led matrix on my next build. Cheers!
The timing of this video could not have been better. I am working on final assembly of my cab and have had trouble with SSF triggering tilt/nudge so I was looking for some physical vibration dampening material. Question: are both the anti vibration plate for drones and the EVA anti vibration pads required to achieve your results? From the video, it seems like the softer drone plate would have been sufficient, but I know that different materials are effective at different frequencies so maybe this combination is required. I'm a little bit cramped for space so would prefer to avoid the additional elevation that the EVA pads would create. And thanks for the video series!
Awesome, glad I could help! With any energy transfer, the more separation...the better. So the Eva foam block should be adding more anti vibration but if you don't have the space, then try without it first. I just jumped to this stack and was even thinking about adding more while I was designing it. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
Ps, thank you very much for the donation to the channel, much appreciated!
Question....it's off topic...do you know if you can remove all the icons off of popper and only show vpx games?
I don't even want the folder for the Vpx games.
I just want the vpin machine to go right into the vpx game list.
You should be able to remove unwanted emulators and options in the pinup popper editor. It shouldn't be that hard. Thanks for the watch!
awesome! i have a just a Native kl25z board, i cant use that virtua pin software can I ??
Nope. It has its own software that gets flashed on it from Virtuapin. You can use Pinscape though for free. Thanks for the watch!
Using KL25Z and nudging has never worked for me, cant figure it out. When using the test nudge table the tilt ball on the left has never moved?
It should just work but I wouldn't look at the tilt dot on the nudge table, just use a regular table and get some kind of nudge happening. Then narrow it down to more realistic settings. Thanks for the watch!
Also how are you backing out of a table to go back to the pinup popper menu? I'm asking specifically about your cabinet and your setup
I have mine set up to use the red exit button on the front of the cab. If I want to bring up the exit popper menu, I press in the plunger. Thanks for the watch!
@wayofthewrench so you push that one lower button and it exits??
Yes
I have my nudge functions working pretty well, but I finally set up tilt fairly recently on my cabinet... but couldn't get the tilt function to respond in VPX 10.8, only 10.7. Do you have any experience with that at all?
My first thought is that you maybe didn't transfer your tilt settings from vpx 10.7 to vpx 10.8. You actually need to input the same settings over to 10.8, they aren't the same program. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench I'll go back and check on that, thanks!
You're welcome. Did you figure it out?
REMOVE YOUR Post-its! (Or you’re just wasting your time)
I did remove them, just didn't show that in the video. They were only there to ensure the ends didn't touch while the silicone dried. Thanks for the watch and your suggestion. Cheers!
Virtual pinball is for virtual people. Do you have a virtual wife too? Video pinball is awful. Always has been. Always will be. Recommend diverting your efforts into something of value.
I hear what you're saying as. I play a lot of real pinball too. However, there are varying degrees of how close a virtual pinball cabinet can feel like it's real pinball. The closer you get, the better it is. Will it ever be 100%? No but it doesn't mean it's worthless. There are a lot of pros including the ability to get better at real pinball, learn rule sets, try new tables, have literally hundreds of tables in one, and it is fun to play. I hear you though and would love to eventually restore some pinball machines and make my own homebrew cabinets. I've got a few great ideas and themes in mind. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
