Literally just found your channel. I now know what exhuast im gonna do, and what my rattle is haha
Hahaha that’s great!! Glad to be of help!
Bro, this is the best I’ve seen of this. Clear video of what you’re looking for as well as explanation! 👌🏼😎
Thank you dude! Really appreciate it!
Is it better to replace it with a newer gen turbo?
Not really, mainly because you can’t. The 2.7 turbos are the same except for the oil inlet hole from 2015-2020. Then 2021+ is much different. The 2021+ turbos would not work on a gen 1 truck. As far as the 3.5 goes, the gen 3 turbos fit on the gen 2 but not without custom kits and such and tuning. The other 3.5 gen’s are not swappable.
The 1000's are mental compared to the 850's.
I want a Can Am Renegade 1000
I rode an Outlander, made a piped Banshee feel like a kids toy. Renegade would be pretty crazy.
Yeah I would love either a renegade or the outlander 1000R and I’d do a tuner and exhaust system. They sound wild with an exhaust.
Huh, nobody jumped on #3 yet? People don't follow links anymore I guess. So I went and read the Stratified (Brit company) link and I saw what looked like a glaring contradiction about boost pressure and the PCV side of the engine. That's fine if you want to use that company and a 3 person forum thread as authoritative, but I would hardly call those waffle impressions on the valve cover a serious separator. Many trusted American mechanics (Scotty, Makuloco, etc) all say a simple passenger side can is a must for DI. I choose to run one on my tuned Gen 2 for two reasons, octane and oil cleanliness..
Everyone sees different things. You’re welcome to run whatever you want on your truck, it’s a free country. More often than not the dual catch cans actually cause problems with the PCV system and the truck will actually be less efficient with the PCV system and will freak out. Maculoco was paid to review catch cans, so of course he’s in favor of them. I like most of his stuff but I disagree with him on the catch can topic. A single catch can on the passenger side doesn’t hurt anything but I think it’s foolish when companies like RX and UPR try and apply their knowledge of other engines to the Ecoboost and think that the dual can setup is gonna work just fine. Ford designed it the way they did and it works amazingly and shouldn’t be tampered with.
Fair enough, we can certainly agree that dual systems are a net negative for the system, but two points: the manifold nipple under the PCV connector is milky white from the factory - I defy anyone to disconnect and examine theirs under the connector and find anything but chocolate brown and wet after only 10s of thousands of miles. #2 CVF came out with a V2 with a "condensation" drain (for an extra $250) but the crap most ICs were puking out was brown and foamy, and IC replacement videos often show oily hot side pipes. Single catch cans take that out of the system.
PS - don't get mad, okay? You said you knew catch cans would be controversial. Peace
Well if you’re defying me, I will be 100% honest with you. On all four Ecoboost trucks I own/have owned (own three right now) I’ve never seen milky colors in the pcv system and all three trucks I have are completely stock PCV wise. Oh I’m not mad, just friendly discussion. My 2.7 truck would get some oil in the intercooler from time to time and what came out of it was always dark black oil.
Also why has ford not addressed the situation if it’s an actual problem? Only recently has ford actually come out with a ford performance catch can, which I believe they saw all the hype over the years and decided to see if they could take advantage of some of those funds being spent. But…. It is a single catch can. As I said, the single cans are not harmful to the engine, but still are not necessary. The reality is, if you’re catching a ton of stuff in your catch can in very little miles, your truck has a problem. I had a catch can at one time before I sold it and I would get half a can full in like 5000 miles. That’s such a small amount that burning that off through the stock system doesn’t hurt anything. Catch cans do not help carbon deposits on the back of the intake valves like people think. That’s not how that works. Guys with catch cans still get carbon deposits. That’s because it’s caused by emissions and valve overlap. A Catch can is ideally used to combat detonation from excessive blowby. These engines do not have excessive blowby if they are functioning as designed. If you are experiencing excessive blowby then something isn’t happy.
Can you show a picture of the shutters after you trimmed it? Does the actuator need to be moved? Thanks for the help
The actuator itself has to be take off yes. I left it plugged in and zip tied it behind the grille. Email me, I’ll try and give you some pics if you want.
No 0-60 time?
No, I forgot to run dragy. But it’s around 8 seconds. Very slow.

Do you have an aftermarket trans cooler? I notice mine have a super hard engagement into 2nd (possibly slipping) when my trans temp is around 200. When I’m around 180 it won’t act up. I am running a slightly bigger tire so idk if that might be affecting it
No. I didn’t have a bigger trans cooler. I’d never get above 195 degrees while doing a 1/4 mile pull. Hmmm, It could be anything
@@BoostKingMatt ok thanks for the feedback. I will hit 210 (80° ambient) sometimes after pulls. Maybe I’ll try a bigger trans cooler to be safe
Only 2.1 60ft?

I find it important to open the 2.7 filter before and during the drain. Else it retains about half quart of oil. Don’t drain first, replace drain plug, then change the filter. Fully drained takes a nice even 6 quarts.
I thought I was one of the only ones to do a flood clear initial start 🤣
Can you explain the point of this mechanically? Just curious. Never done it but I own a 2.7 and do all of my own oil changes.
@@TheREIstory it puts the ECM in "flood clear" mode, which disables the injectors, allowing the oil pump to fill the filter and galleys before you start the engine.
@@208Concepts awesome I'll do that next time. Will it just keep turning over? I've got a 2017 so it's push to start. Is there a different sequence for that model of 2.7?
@@TheREIstory they have a cranking timer I believe. It's all CAN based on these so just floor it and push the button. On my Rangers, being basic, I had to hold the key to keep it cranking.

Are you testing a prototype or are you sourcing from a previous gen
Prototype inlet tubes
I'm glad my 2022 Ford F-150 is only the "lowly" smaller 2.7 liter EcoBoost, lol. That cartridge style engine oil filter up top is very nice! Some says there's no anti-drain back valve in the cartridge style filter element so the 2.7 liter EcoBoost motor will experience "dry starts' if all the motor oil is allowed to drain back down to the oil pan like say if truck is left parked overnight etc. Don't know if this is true or not? There is a kit from Baxter Performance that swaps from the Ford cartridge style filter to a more conventional canister style oil filter like their 500s or Ford Performance filter you're using on your 2022 3.5 liter EcoBoost F-150. This Baxter Performance kit still keep the canister filter up top in the engine bay in the same location as the previous cartridge style filter, but it's kind of expensive, lol. I just got some MPT Performance "custom" tunes on my 2.7 liter EcoBoost F-150 + am liking them. Soon I'll have brand-new 1 step colder ruthenium spark plugs put in a big CV Fabrication Titan V2 performane intercooler put in & then I'll have some tune revisions done too! Interested to know what you think of your updated tune revisions on your 2022 Ford F-150 3.5 liter EcoBoost.
The anti-drainback valve, ain’t. Is an anti-back flush valve. Proof? Next oil change lay your old filter on its side full of oil. Will be empty in 30 minutes. The “drain back” flap is leaky. The 2.7 has whatever Ford engineers want built into the engine.
How's the engine holding together? And what boost and fuel are you running?
It held up for a while and then blew up. was running around 22.5 psi and e50 fuel. Making around 650 hp at the crank
Sounds great what exhaust do you have
Watch my video on the first ever 2.7 with equal length downpipes. That will show you what exhaust I had on that truck.
Love the install tips, I’m sure most apply to the 13th gen 3.5 as well. We’re going to find out!

Wonder if this being more flow has a sound difference
Yes I’ve noticed a bit of a sound difference.
Finish in the dark. I've had to do that also.
Hahahahaha
Thought you weren't going to "push" things as much or keep the build on your newer 2022 F-150 3.5 liter EcoBoost truck a bit tamer, lol. Full JLT dual inlet cold air intake, custom (I assume ZFG Tuning) tunes, bigger twin turbochargers, CV Fabrication's biggest upgraded intercooler, Turbosmart BOV. Looks pretty involved. But a modern fullsize pickup truck is a "canvas" for customization so a "build" may never be truly done & the bug bites to add more, lol.
Intake is not dual, it’s a single filter, and it’s not custom. No ZFG tuning. Just a light tune from Brett at BoostKing Tuning. Yes I’m doing upgraded turbos and there will be a full exhaust and downpipes coming too, only because it’s all sponsored though. Otherwise I have nothing to make videos about.
Never been near one of those.
"Spoolis Caesar" I love it!
Hahaha
I can shed some light on this. I’m fairly certain this is a “self check” that that PCM is doing when the vehicle is off. It could possibly be in place to keep the WG from seizing up. Even after key off, the Canbus system is still active and can be for upwards of an hour. This is why when diagnosing power draw on modern vehicles you often have to just let them sit for awhile first to let the PCM go to “sleep”. Vehicles in the Jeep/Chrysler world make noises when they are off too. Often the throttle body cycling. I have seen various GM models cycle the fuel pump when the engine is off too to keep fuel up at the HPFP for start up. The gen 2 ecoboost was the first ecoboost to have electronically controlled WG actuators. On those, the actuators do a self test after start up. This can be heard as the famous waste gate “rattle” noise changing after cold start on those too.
Thank you for that insight. Appreciate it.
Good video!
what is that little aluminum tube for i just tossed mine on my dual afe intake lmao havent noticed anything
You threw yours out? It’s supposed to go in the inlet tube to trick the sensor. I left it out on mine and never got a code. Don’t have that intake anymore though.
I took the lid off of my S&B one time. Didn't change much 🤣
This intake is sold now, it did make a difference in sound compared to me JLT but was actually more obnoxious.
Testing, good!
Does this Engine is any good?
Always interesting videos, Matt! My 2023 certainly has several odd quirks, but strangely enough I’m acclimating to them. The truck is an absolute hoot to drive. One odd thing that I’m curious if you’ve experienced, is a clunk sound when I come to a stop. Basically rolling into the stop there will be an audible clunk, and then as soon as I stop , another. It’s done it since I left the lot in March. I think it’s the 10 speed making the noise but I’m no mechanic. Not even close.
Thanks man!! Hmmm, mine does not do that. Does it lurch at all or just make a clunk sound? It might be the 10 speed
@@BoostKingMatt no lurch or anything. Just the clunk, clunk. It’s not sloppy, sounds like something resetting possibly? I’m 99% sure it’s not coming from the engine bay. I’m at 3500 miles right now so when I hit 5k I’m taking it in to the dealership for service and will chat with them about it.
Thats because the wastegates on these trucks would go bad. People with light pedal control would never let the wastegate fully open aka go full boost. The time when they use full boost, it would get stuck open. A new turbo is needed when this happens. My guess Ford programed that in to the engine computer to extend the life of the turbo.
That’s the most interesting comment so far. Everyone else is full of trash talk. You’re probably right. I make it a point on our trucks to make sure we open up the throttle on them a lot.
^* if I had to guess this would be it
I swear these new fords are so bad it’s a disgrace I’ve owned them all my life but these new ones are just pathetic
They’re actually not. They are a work of art and run amazing!!
Okay well I’ll ask you again in another 3-5 years
@jkink8049 go ahead. My mind won’t be changed.
ABSOLUTE JUNK!!!!
Ford engineering meant to save the company money not produce quality long lasting products.
Fuck ford
The idiots at ford set up the ecu with a target boost control loop that moves the actuator way more than needed. Oddly it’s only in the f150 not the other vehicles with the same exact engine and turbo.
Yeah well it does it when the truck is off and not running. Just sitting there. If I walk near it it makes the noise. And I took a peek in there and the wastegate control arm was moving.
@@BoostKingMattur going insane cause you paid top dollar for a shitbox
I will say the ECU is doing a self test
@tnpbooker6723 nope. It’s faster than all other gas powered trucks of the same class. Best truck on planet earth bud. Never had an issue with it.
@gordonmelling3443 haha maybe so. Maybe it is thinking about the tune I put on it. 🤣🤣
I think these ecoboosts sound the best with just SPD down pipe and just a resonator delete w/ stock exhaust. You get all the turbo noise with no high RPM rasp
Sounds like the most bad ass Stihl weedeater.
ZFG dominating all the Ecoboost records 😂
Does he have any socials? That’s badass!
He does. Steven Boswell on Facebook
That's some tangible deductive reasoning there, Holmes. Seriously. I think you're on to something....
11.45 1/4 miles seems slow for 600+ whp tbh. When a tuned fbo stock turbos gets you well into the 12s
He had a horrible launch and was completely stock in terms of suspension, his 60’ was not great. So actually incredibly impressive. He sent me a video of a 40 roll just a little bit ago and his truck moves like no other 2.7 I’ve seen.
What you are saying is true, to a point. This truck, bone stock except for a 5 Star E50 tune with five revisions went 12.20-12.30s. Tbh, I should have left it alone at that point, but I digress... so, why does 600+ whp not run 10s like I expected? I admit, I was a bit disappointed after spending MASSIVE amounts of money just to run .7-.8 tenths quicker than before. I've thought about it and I have a few theories. 1. Horsepower is just one aspect. Torque is actually more important for getting a relatively heavy object moving quickly. And Adam at ZFG has limited that and dialed it back to try to keep the rods alive. 2. I honestly feel the truck is faster than 11.45. That pass was in 90° heat, 3750' DA, full weight including a spare tire, hitch, and 3/4 tank of fuel. Track was junk that night as well. I run a speed rated, hard compound street tire and the truck spun hard, even in 4wd. The tire isn't really suited for drag racing, but, it's what I have and I make do. 3. I drove 200 miles in August heat to the track, waited half an hour, and made 1 clean pass. I didn't beat on it, just a shakedown run. I don't mean to make excuses, mainly trying to see where I can improve before the built 3.0 goes in. I'd like to hit 10s with a street driven 2.7 before I get stupid with the new engine. I think it has 10s in it if I can keep it together long enough. If I pull the spare tire, hitch, front and rear sway bars, console, passenger seat, tailgate, etc I think I can drop a few hundred pounds. I also have Viking adjustable shocks to throw on it to maybe help with the launch. 1/4 tank of fuel, cool air one night, and who knows? Maybe it's got a 10 second pass in it. But, to your point, this is a lot of expense and time to run a number that a boosted Coyote truck could easily do. Probably while pulling a trailer!! Lol... I actually enjoyed the truck more at low 12s. Should have left it alone. It's easy to go low 12s in an Ecoboost. To go faster, I should have went Coyote. I'd be in the 9s by now.
@stevenboswell1150 true, but when you reach a 10 in a totally stock 2.7 motor the world will be in awe. And when you get wild with the 3.0 they’ll still be in awe
@BoostKingMatt I like being different. I don't care about being the fastest. If that's the goal, you will always be disappointed because there is ALWAYS someone faster. I set personal goals and strive for those. A 10 second 2.7 is the next step, if it lives. I've told you before that if I run a 10.99 and drive over the crankshaft doing it, the smile would have to be surgically removed from my face! Now, the 3.0 is a different story! I've talked with Andrew at CRP and he said he would build me a set of custom turbos, larger than the Stage 4s. Basically the size you had. Which is the Explorer ST Stage 5 equivalent. Enough airflow for 750ish whp theoretically. With my ported heads and Kelford cams, maybe a bit more. But, the bottom end should be good for 1000whp ish. So, I'm gonna run enough nitrous to power the space shuttle!!! Lol... seriously though, the nitrous should eliminate any turbo lag issues and give me enough hp to run well into the 9s. That's the next step after either 10s in the 2.7 or parts on the ground!
@stevenboswell1150 yes sir! Let’s go!!!!! Send me any and all videos and I can get you publicity on my channel if you want me to.
Whoa! Very intriguing and a rather insightful theory regarding the 10speed transmission. I’m interested to see how this plays out.
Very interesting and reasonable theory.

I'm going mad with my ford focus ecoboost 1.6 150HP. Since 4 years It emits blue smoke when it is started cold. it always whistled slightly at load (boost from turbo) timing belt was changed last year. since yesterday its howling very loud after a throttle above 15% and has NO boost only vacuum from minus to max zero. its very difficult to find some good mechanics to get a proper diagnose here :(
@hansiman9262 hmm yeah sounds like it might need a proper look through
I'd like to hear what one big turbo sounds like on these instead of 2 small ones.
A big turbo would be cool on a race truck but for daily driving would rob the Ecoboost of what it’s known for, that low end torque. A big turbo would take a while to spool up and the torque would suffer.
@@BoostKingMatt True, I have an 2012 3.5 I just wish they didn't sound like rattling pop can after 2.5k rpms anything under it sounds pretty nice.
@@coverstream9951 I like the Ecoboost sound. Especially the Gen 3 raptors! That equal length exhaust sounds amazing. It’s an acquired taste for sure. Not everyone likes it. When I hear it though, I know it means power!!!
@@BoostKingMatt Not sure if you've heard the SPD performance kits for them but they sound amazing. Sounds more like a diesel and better than the 3L diesel
@@coverstream9951 oh you’re talking about the turbo whistle package. Yeah, but I’m talking about the equal length trombone pipe that SPD makes too and also my sponsor CVF is working on some designs too.
Don't blow up any more trucks😂
Where’s the fun in that?? Haha, we won’t be blowing this one up though.
Ha no mention of suspension parts! Eh that's just me, good list for sure!
That’s not a performance part for making power though
