ZFG dominating all the Ecoboost records 😂

Whoa! Very intriguing and a rather insightful theory regarding the 10speed transmission. I’m interested to see how this plays out.

    Very interesting and reasonable theory.

That's some tangible deductive reasoning there, Holmes. Seriously. I think you're on to something....

11.45 1/4 miles seems slow for 600+ whp tbh. When a tuned fbo stock turbos gets you well into the 12s

He had a horrible launch and was completely stock in terms of suspension, his 60’ was not great. So actually incredibly impressive. He sent me a video of a 40 roll just a little bit ago and his truck moves like no other 2.7 I’ve seen.

What you are saying is true, to a point. This truck, bone stock except for a 5 Star E50 tune with five revisions went 12.20-12.30s. Tbh, I should have left it alone at that point, but I digress... so, why does 600+ whp not run 10s like I expected? I admit, I was a bit disappointed after spending MASSIVE amounts of money just to run .7-.8 tenths quicker than before. I've thought about it and I have a few theories.
      1. Horsepower is just one aspect. Torque is actually more important for getting a relatively heavy object moving quickly. And Adam at ZFG has limited that and dialed it back to try to keep the rods alive.
      2. I honestly feel the truck is faster than 11.45. That pass was in 90° heat, 3750' DA, full weight including a spare tire, hitch, and 3/4 tank of fuel. Track was junk that night as well. I run a speed rated, hard compound street tire and the truck spun hard, even in 4wd. The tire isn't really suited for drag racing, but, it's what I have and I make do.
      3. I drove 200 miles in August heat to the track, waited half an hour, and made 1 clean pass. I didn't beat on it, just a shakedown run.
I don't mean to make excuses, mainly trying to see where I can improve before the built 3.0 goes in. I'd like to hit 10s with a street driven 2.7 before I get stupid with the new engine. I think it has 10s in it if I can keep it together long enough. If I pull the spare tire, hitch, front and rear sway bars, console, passenger seat, tailgate, etc I think I can drop a few hundred pounds. I also have Viking adjustable shocks to throw on it to maybe help with the launch. 1/4 tank of fuel, cool air one night, and who knows? Maybe it's got a 10 second pass in it.
But, to your point, this is a lot of expense and time to run a number that a boosted Coyote truck could easily do. Probably while pulling a trailer!! Lol... I actually enjoyed the truck more at low 12s. Should have left it alone. It's easy to go low 12s in an Ecoboost. To go faster, I should have went Coyote. I'd be in the 9s by now.

@stevenboswell1150 true, but when you reach a 10 in a totally stock 2.7 motor the world will be in awe. And when you get wild with the 3.0 they’ll still be in awe

@BoostKingMatt I like being different. I don't care about being the fastest. If that's the goal, you will always be disappointed because there is ALWAYS someone faster. I set personal goals and strive for those. A 10 second 2.7 is the next step, if it lives. I've told you before that if I run a 10.99 and drive over the crankshaft doing it, the smile would have to be surgically removed from my face!
Now, the 3.0 is a different story! I've talked with Andrew at CRP and he said he would build me a set of custom turbos, larger than the Stage 4s. Basically the size you had. Which is the Explorer ST Stage 5 equivalent. Enough airflow for 750ish whp theoretically. With my ported heads and Kelford cams, maybe a bit more. But, the bottom end should be good for 1000whp ish. So, I'm gonna run enough nitrous to power the space shuttle!!! Lol... seriously though, the nitrous should eliminate any turbo lag issues and give me enough hp to run well into the 9s. That's the next step after either 10s in the 2.7 or parts on the ground!
