Over the years, decades, all makers have sandbagged some HP and torque numbers. Some more than others especially in the muscle care era. The Ecoboost engines for certain with the limits put on by the ECU's, they have as you know much more potential. Other notables include the 302's in Z28, Boss 302, Chevy ZL1, street hemi's, Olds W30, even the 80's Dodge GLH Omnis.
I had a 2003 Mustang Cobra and Ford definitely sandbaged on it, too. I believe it was done then, so the insurance industry wouldn't violate the owners so we could afford to keep our cars(?)
Just a question I am new to the f150 I just bought a 2020 f150 with the 2.7 and I am curious on what the power could be… I have added a AFE duel filter cold air intake with AWE full exhaust with resonator delete with MPT 93 prx tune. I do think they make more power than claimed but I have no idea what power mine could have. It’s got brand new catalytic converters on it as well with ngk colder spark plugs.
I’d guess somewhere around 340-370hp at the wheels with that setup
How certain are you of calibration of your dynos?
Also, some ambulance chasing lawyer may decide to sue for billions if Ford claimed only 2 HP more than actual.
Research what happened to the small lawnmower engine makers. Rated HP at 3600 RPM but the CPSC limited blade tip speed so most were governed to 3100 RPM. Less HP than marked on engine. Lawyers made a bundle. Small engines are now rated by torque which is nearly flat over top RPM range.
To this day Kawasaki rates HP on small engines lower than their competitors. A 22 hp Kawasaki is at least equivalent to 24 hp anything else on a zero turn. Seat of pants, same engine in same chassis.
I’m not certain, but trucks claimed a certain hp run much slower 0-60 times than the ford f150 and for the 0-60 times the f150 has, it has got to be making more than 340 whp to get a time like it does.
@@BoostKingMatt I agree the drag strip is a better comparison than between different dynos. Have watched local dyno shops strain to tell owners they got HP gains justifying the money spent. Straining enough I don’t trust their calibration. Giving customers a plot they can brag over while drinking beer.
Also distrust inertia dynos. I understand how they should be easy to calibrate and stay calibrated, the heavy drum’s mass isn’t going to change. Very similar to a drag strip. They can only measure accelerating HP not steady state. Not that useful in jetting for trailer hauling.
@N4HHE a dyno is not a good measure of hp, more a measure of hp between tunes. Best measure of hp is knowing a truck’s weight, and its 1/4 trap speed and elapsed time to judge hp with equations. Those are usually pretty accurate representation.
