They were nice cars,the only drag is they had so many air pollution devices to clean up a carburated engine.The sad part was they cut into power,the added weight of bumper standards ,not to mention the smallest V-8 available was a 350,most owners of fullsise cars were lucky to average 12 miles to the gallon,and the Arab fuel crisis was just around the corner, adversely affecting people's opinion of eight cylinder fullsize cars.

Another case of messed up government regulation. Just can't imagine all the complaints and hassles dealers went through trying to educate, then listening to complaints about the car not starting, almost got in an accident, missed a wedding, etc. Fortunately, this system was removed in years to come. Most of those cars had the system bypassed as well.

It really was a shame. The Vega was kind of a fun car to drive. Too bad GM/chevy was so worried about saving nickels and dimes, they could have put steel sleeves in the cylinders. I'll never figure out why they chose to use an cast iron head....Dis similar metals and money wasted, someone said they were worried about the valve seals falling out of the aluminum head casting. It is hard to believe that any poor Vega actually received all that rust proofing bragged about in this video. All this penny pinching just opened the doors for japanese imports to take over.

I had a 77' with a 327 small block G.M. motor, racing cam. 4 barrel, dual exhaust and headers. Pozzy rear end and 3 speed hydromatic tranny.. Red on Red..

1976 planes looked more advanced & sophisticated than the automobiles on road.

Loved my 73.I put a Pontiac.455 big block in it .even with the stock gas saver 256 rear differential, I was never beat in the 1/4 mile with that car .

Pontiac went from the best looking 71 and 72 Lemans to the UGLIEST IN 1973.

1980,was the last year of the steel tilt cab,I have said this before, but I think the GMC/Chevrolet steel tilt cab is a sharp looking style ques,the two glass slight wrap around Windshield,the front and rear cab top style and the overhang -s front and rear.

So cool… I want one. I liked everything except the full time four wheel drive. Don’t know why anybody thought that was a good idea, outside of military applications.

1970-72 intermediate GM 4 door hardtops ought to have been cherished and kept with newer models boycotted.

Being a poor college student in 1973, I could never own one of these then. But my parents had one and I loved driving it. I can remember borrowing that car to take a trip across several states on vacation and the comfort at the end of a long day of driving Was amazing compared to modern cars.

I dated a girl in college in the 70s with an omega. Of course, it’s a re-badged nova, but the nova was a good car. She loved it. I think showing this torture test of this transmission on here is the height of stupidity and marketing, whether it is meant for the public or just for dealers.

It's too bad those Chevy square bodies rusted so badly. They were good looking trucks. My uncle bought a 1974 C20 brand new. Within about 8 years it had considerable rust.

I'll take a brand new one (2-door version) for 2024.
