1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Dealership Promotional Sales Training Film ( Restored )

- This 1973 Oldsmobile promotional film, titled " 1973 Delta 88 From Oldsmobile ", was sent to the Oldsmobile car dealerships to be used as an in-house Sales and customer training film. This film highlights technical aspects and features of the new model year.
If you look up a different film I posted, titled "1974 Chevy Selling Monte Carlo ", you can see a rare glimpse of the film cartridge viewer that was used at the dealership where the customers and personnel were to view these films. The machine was made by Technicolor and called the " Chevrolet Mini Theater System "
This film came from my personal collection. This film was not downloaded from any website and is not reused content. This restoration is my work. The restoration process started with removing the super8 film from the Technicolor Cartridge. After removal the film was cleaned, repaired, and spooled onto a standard film reel. This film had many scratches and dust marks along with fair amount of color fade. The scanning to digital process and basic color correction was performed on the Lasergraphics Scanstation motion picture film scanner system in 2k resolution. Excess film grain noise was removed and the images upscaled to 4K resolution utilizing Topaz AI software. Then in 4K, extensive color restoration was performed in Davinci Resolve. Scratches and dust marks along with advanced noise removal was performed using NeatVideo. Then a second and final color restoration and image stabilization was performed in DaVinci Resolve. Finally, the film was downscaled back to 2k for uploading to CZcams. As I work on these films, I try to improve the process as I go along. Thanks for watching.

My grandparents had one in ash yellow. It was my grandfather's pride and joy, and rightfully so. The streamlining of the car really stands out on that particular year and model, more so than the years prior or after, and the yellow added even more to compliment it. That 455 really could move that big car around readily, too. Sweet memories of a bygone era...
Sold me with that off-road footage. I always test drive cars on roads like that. Clearly this one gets a pass

We had a blue 1973 Delta 88 Royale sedan. It was the nicest car we’d ever had to that point. Loved those taillights.

Yes! I never understood why they went back to the slotted taillights in 74. The 71 has also beautiful non-slotted taillights.
@@theemulsionalchemist5688 This was also the first car we had with cloth seats … a real fancy interior. Every Sunday we went to my grandparents’ house, 30 miles away. Down the street from my grandparents’ house was a snow cone stand. My treat on the way home was a grape snow cone. On our first Sunday trip in the new Delta 88, I wanted my snow cone, but my mom said we couldn’t eat in the new car because of the cloth seats. I put up an argument. I’d never spilled my snow cone before, and I was a big boy (8 years old). She caved, and my dad drove us to get my treat. As we pulled out of the parking lot - snow cone in my hand - I lost my balance, and that wonderful concoction of crushed ice and grape flavor and purple food coloring went right onto the back seat, between me and my brother. Until we traded the car in 1976 (for another Delta 88 Royale), the remnant of my accident - a big purple splotch - remained visible. No amount of scrubbing got it out. Fortunately the interior was blue and it didn’t stand out too much. And fortunately, my spill killed the newness of the car. I was now able to eat in it … and I never spilled anything again.
1973 was the only year that the tailights were horizontal...the rest of the 1971 to 1976 generation all used vertical tailights.
@@toddbonin6926 You and I must be the same age! My parents' 1971 Impala had the all-vinyl interior instead of cloth and vinyl (made cleanups easier). If you think a spilled purple snow cone is bad....my brother got car sick and vomited in the back seat of his classmate's 1972 AMC Matador station wagon during a field trip! Scotchgard, I tell ya!

Great memories. Learned to drive on Mom's 1974 Delta 88 Royale Brougham with the 455 Rocket. It was a slow boat, but sure had a lot of low end torque. Power everything, but easy to blow fuses when kids abuse all the power features.
My Aunt and Uncle purchased a new 1973 Delta 88 Royale Holiday Sedan (hardtop) in Chestnut Brown. They lived in Indiana and traveled all over the country with my cousins. Once they drove to California in that car. We all went to the 1975 New Year's Day Rose Bowl Parade...them in that car and our family in our 1971 Impala Sport Sedan. As a kid, I was fascinated with the big safety bumpers that their car had which were not found on ours.

My Dad had the exact same one, royal blue. It's cool to see Sam Raimi using his 73 Delta in all of his movies and TV shows.
I remember my Aunt and Uncle's Delta 88 Royale Coupe and as a kid thinking they were so cool....both the car and my Aunt and Uncle! Theirs was like the car in the video but brown...with a Tan top.......Jackson Beck is the voice over on this film.
we both enjoy these films. I am working hard to try to restore these, and I can't say that I have perfected the process but my latest are close. Thanks

My dad was an Olds guy in those years. He bought a brown 73 Royale two door with a 455.
On the plus side the were great driving cars with excellent handling and ride. Interiors were very roomy and comfortable and the engines were torquey and provided effortless power.
On the negative side engines thanks to emissions laws were much less powerful, worse on gas and had starting and stalling issues. Body structure on the 71-76 big GM’s was weak compared to the 65-70 generation so plenty of rattles and cheap sounding door closures.
Quality control was at a nadir at the time with cheap interior and exterior trim components along with severe corrosion issues.
All that being said they were wonderful driving cars in a way that even brand new cars today can’t compare.
They must have had a lot of that brown metallic in stock back then. Seemed almost every olds on the road was that color then.

My very first car was one of these my grandfather passed away and my dad gave it to me. We nicknamed it the rat. I used to beat the Daylights out of it I would do 180s believe it or not I had it for 8 months and then sold it to my step sister
Why do they drive these upscale Oldsmobile automobiles through the pothole mud & water on dirt roads. ? That proves what ? ..the cars aren't RV's.
It proves that they are not water soluable or made out of glass. I knew a fellow who drove a Ford through a puddle, car started to dissolve. It's a good thing he was going slow because the whole car liquified around him and dropped him and the seat right onto the ground. There weren't many cars back then that could go through puddles without dissolving.
Oldsmobile had a turbo car in 62.
