  • The Oldsmobile Starfire is an automobile nameplate used by Oldsmobile, produced in three non-contiguous generations beginning in 1954. The Starfire nameplate made its debut with the 1954-1956 Ninety-Eight series convertibles. For 1957 only, all Ninety-Eight series models were named "Starfire 98".
Oldsmobile during this time period was one of the most popular brands selling, and the company saw an opportunity to benefit from the Space Race of the 1960s. The "rocket" terminology was already a benefit with their Rocket V8.

The Gordian Knot of film and bursting boxes of canisters were a hilarious illustration of the collector's plight and my favourite part of the video. My sympathies, and thanks for taking one for the team.

I love these videos. I was 6 years old but into cars already and I remember my father had a company car that was a dark green 1966 olds Dynamic 88. Both of my grandfathers were Oldsmobile people also one had a 66 tornado that he just purchased and the other one had a 98 luxury sedan. I remember all the cars had huge gas pedals.

...and those people had never heard of the '65 Jetstar 1, basically the '65 Starfire with a bit less 'luxury' than the Starfire. The '66 Starfire just took over the Jetstar 1's market position and the New Tornado took over the top spot in Oldsmobile's Line-up hierarchy. So Much for marketing. 😉☺️😁
