You need to look at the trajectory Max and RB tend to go in P1, 2 and 3. P1, Max finds and goes over the limit. Learns, gives useful feedback to engineers. P2 tends to be test and modify. P3 he is looking at full race set up so not always on top of the time sheets. Meanwhile, Merc seem to always go for 'fastest lap' in P1, 2 and 3 almost as if to pacify someone... Come to quallie and Max usually nails it to the pole on the last lap having done two poor sectors and purpled the f*ck out of the last one. Don't worry, even if Charles does get pole, his pole to win ratio is worse than Mazispins start to finish ratio...

Look at Miami. Max couldn't really get way ahead of the McLaren's. Max is obviously better than Checo but without equal equipment it is really hard to say who is the best driver on the grid.
