Collecting Military Surplus (Milsurp) rifles is a hobby I enjoy enough to share my experiences with others through these videos. This interest blossomed into an interest in handguns and modern firearms as well. I am by no means an expert but have learned so much through CZcams that I just want to be a part of this community and spread the enjoyment of this hobby.

Remington Model 121
Next up is the Remington Model 121 Fieldmaster (c.1947) made from 1936 to 1954 to upgrade the iconic John Pedersen designed Remington Model 12 which had been going strong since 1909. This rifle is a .22 S/L/LR chambered pump/slide action tube magazine fed repeater that was purchased as a non-functional "gunsmith special" from a LGS and sat for a number of years on my back burner as it would not feed from the magazine correctly and my few attempts to fix it were unsuccessful.
Brought out for a short form video to just feature it quickly "as is" turned into a fascinating exploration into its refinement designers C. C. Loomis and G. H. Harrison and the patents they have for the changes they made which led to a deeper understanding of exactly what was causing the rifle to malfunction.
Come along with me here in the Milsurp Garage as we explore those patents and take a real close look at this fine rifle.

Welcome to a visit with the Mossberg Model 352KB, a semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle that can fire short, long, or long rifle cartridges IF the magic adjustable magazine it was supplied with is still present as they are very elusive and hard to find intact. Made somewhere between 1961 and 1966 it fits into the Mossberg family well as an 18.5 inch barreled carbine with a foldable monopod stock. ...

Welcome! This is a follow up to the video below where we take an in depth look at the gas system of the 1956 Remington Sportsman 58 and see how we can do some routine maintenance to increase its reliability and ability to maintain a gas seal at the barrel ring. This is a weak point in this design that can hopefully be remedied here and now......LETS GO!!!! Guys and Gals.....if you belong to any...

In 1956 Remington introduced the Model 58 shotgun affectionately known as the Sportsman 58, the first gas operated semi automatic shotgun that they ever made. A predecessor to the mighty 1100, the Sportsman 58, although flawed, set the stage for the success of the 1100 and brought Remington into the "modern" era of shotgun manufacturing. By 1963 the Model 58 was gone as the dominance in the mar...

In 1963 Remington introduced the Model 1100 shotgun, a gas operated semi automatic that took the shotgun world by storm.......so much so that it caused Remington to discontinue the Model 11-48 and Model 58, the two other semi auto shotguns in the lineup. You can imagine how it impacted sales of the competitors offerings. The example I have here is a 1985 production, 2 3/4'' 12 Gauge with a 30''...

Here we have a Browning Auto 5 in 16 gauge, a 1957 production Belgian made beauty with a 26'' barrel, 2 3/4'' chamber, and Improved Cylinder choke. Something we are allowed have here in Australia thankfully, pump action rimfire and centrefire rifles are allowed on a basic A+B licence . Sadly not allowed pump shotguns though unless you're a professional contract shooter or primary producer.
Menudo tesoro ...esa es de la época dorada de Gamo ...de cuando Gamo trabajaba con muchísima calidad carabinas de acero y madera y no como ahora que las hacen de plástico
Picked up one of these a few years ago in really nice condition. Think it was made 1949 if I remember right.
Can you tell me how those scope rings are mounted? I have a 1935 69 that's super similar and would love to put a decent scope on it. Cheers!
I just inherited a Springfield Model 15, it has “patent pending” stamped on the barrel so can I assume it was made between 36 and 39 before the patent was approved?
That’s a good bet.
I have one of those. No.ssfety but you can't rack the slide unless you cock the hammer first. Must be a malfunction
Are you sure you don’t need to rack a little harder?
Oooh Yes Buddy Another Remington Pump Action 22 Rifle and A Long Video Too Love it 😀😎😊👍🏼
I may be picking one of these up soon- 144LSB, heavy barrel with factory peep sights. Stock looks mint, and it is in excellent condition.
Make mine a Marlin! 👍😄👍
Love the work sir. Can't wait until fix video
Same time as the notification for this comment came in, so did the notification that the part was in my mailbox. See you soon!
One of my LGS has a few of those But at the moment I’m preoccupied with the Ruger 50th anniversary BlackHawk .44 magnum I have on layaway
Pump action 22’s is one of my favorite genres
I think I own 5 great guns!😂
ugh- why do you keep sharing these awesome classics??? You make me want to buy every old gun I see LOL. There are a couple really sweet, nice condition vintage pumps at my cabela's but they're all over 6 bills, some over 11 bills (One is an octagonal barrel in 22 short I believe) and I just can't bring myself to buy them... That's why i bought the model 35 Sears pump action rifle. I could afford it :)
I bought this rifle for $40.
@@MilsurpGarage duuuuuude!!! What??? I never find deals like that.

You need to revisit this great rifle.
I agree! These videos do seem real old. Should just go back around all over again!
Great information! I have one that my neighbor gave me back in 75 or so. Same box, and I have the adapter. Mine no longer holds air either. And the rear sight is cracked on the left side allowing it to swing away, but not fall completely off.
Wonder if it stopped holding air way back in 75!
No! I shot it a lot back in those days. Last time I shot it was probably around 2000
Funny, finding this video. I was just thinking of throwing it away. It is in a pile to toss right now.
I had one many years ago. Won a Gold Medal with it. Don't keep it too clean as it won't cycle properly. P.S. Try rehearsing your videos in future.
Then they would sound…..well……rehearsed.
I just put a routledge bore on layaway. Thought it was strange that it had no sights besides a shotgun bead so I did a little research and found that they only made around 5700 of them. It's not the prettiest one but it didn't break the bank and I had to have it.
Nice. Now you need the whole set up!
@@MilsurpGarage I think that little skeet thrower is gonna be hard to find.

Great Watch!! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
The screw in front of the trigger when you disassembled it adjusts the pounds on the trigger, adjustable trigger even back then !
Yeah, better to not mess with that!
@@MilsurpGarage I saved 142A that was going off if bumped , they said it was used up and dangerous, it wasn’t that adjustment screw had backed out over time and had only about 6 oz to set it off ! I adjusted it to 6 lb and blue locktited it ! Don’t be afraid of a adjustable trigger!

My early 142 A has always had the wood fold down forearm! I think the black plastic looks good!

I had theta bolt action,I really didn’t like how far forward the bolt handle was , to long of reach , especially in cold weather!
I'd love one of these rare 922m's. There is one going up for auction soon you can find on liveauctions website if you are interested. I just purchased a Camp 9 so I am pretty broke for now.

I Enjoy Your Detailed Videos No Matter What The Length of Time They Are Longer More Detailed The Video Is Ok In My Book 😇😀👍🏼😎👍🏼
Awesome, thank you! I had a few examples that were tying up loose ends but the next one, which was going to be a quick overview as well, looks like it's turning into a mini series! Just had a few events transpire during my research that is turning it into a full length!
Mossberg made some very interesting 22 LR rifles, e.g. with swing-away receiver sights, the 144 model that the military purchased, etc. I owned a 144LS (reasonable economy target model), a 342 bolt action, and a 352K semiauto with the non-adjustable magazine (R498). The semiauto began to have feeding problems which became intractable, no matter how I tried to "adjust" the magazine, and I eventually traded it in for a tubular feed rifle of a different make, so its not just the adjustable mags that were problematic.
I notice some balkiness from the 300 series autoloaders....the earlier 50's examples seemed to work a little better. Strangely, the New Haven 250CA which is basically a no frills version of a 352 shoots flawless and super accurate.....the BEST of all the Mossbergs 22's I have. Amazing, huh?
My father gave me this gun for hunting in pakistan. I use bretta, benelli, but this is really a gem no comparison b2000
What do you hunt with a shotgun in pakistan? Just curious.
We have one of these sitting in the safe, it is a 16 gauge...operational, it sees about 6 shells once a year, cleaned, and back into safe...we have some #1 buck, #6, and #8 shot for it, just in case...ours shows the scratches and dings of heavy use, but as noted, it still shoots fine...
Nice!
Are you sure there is nothing on the outside of the can that indicates 7N1 or 7N14? It seems to me there must be so soldiers can figure out which ammo to bring with them, find and use.
The can had a bunch of identifying info as you can see, just no 7N1 designation. I think the Russian word for "sniper" is on there.............
Shooting a #5 RB in good repair with suitable ammo is not dangerous. Shooting any center fire weapon with no idea if the ammo is suitable ("because the ammo sort'a fits") IS dangerous. The act of a lazy and impatient person.
It's 7mm Mauser ammo, it's safe in that gun.....I don't remember what I said in this video....did I really say "it sorta fits"?
Short or long always a treat. A lot of the firearms you present are new to me as well as the old favourites I know and love and I always learn something. It's time well spent and I appreciate the effort you put in. Thank you.
Very kind. Nice to know there are those who "get it".
Happy 4th of July.
Same to you Shep my friend. We uploaded another Mossberg .22 video for the 4th! Saw your 9422 video.....nice! Can't tell you how many times I came a hair away from picking one of those up but there always seems to be a reason to pass.....something in the way, whatever it is. Actually had a "Trapper" version in the bag when for some reason the seller, who was at a gun show, was unable to complete the sale for some reason or another.....some kind of discrepancy with the people running the show regarding something he was selling....don't really remember. They wouldn't let us complete the sale there (BGC) and he never got back to me afterwards to find an FFL for transfer/purchase. There are several instances that fell through....it's an omen for me. Same with the Browning Trombone .22. Be well.
@@MilsurpGarage I picked up the 9422 a couple years ago. Local shop had it on consignment for a reasonable price. Wanted one of these back in the 70s when my brother-in-law picked one up. But I was just out of high school and poor, so I settled for a Ruger 10/22 instead.
I own a 152 my dad bought between WW2 and Korea. Would love to know more of the history of that model. Mine has the wood fold down fore end, and the rear peep sight Have never had any luck finding original mags, but still have the one original. Thanks for keeping these excellent .22s alive!
Those were made from 1948 to 1957 then became the Model 352 in 1957
I prefer the long form videos. My two cents worth sir.
Great because the next one just got longer! Thanks.
Happy 4th to you too. I’m not too sure about this short form. I always appreciated the time and effort that you put into the history of your purchases.👏👏👏🇺🇸🙏🏽✌🏻😎👍
I appreciate that! Just a couple of loose ends to tie up before taking on the next challenge. Been through a ton of Mossberg .22 rifle history that’s all there for the watching! Just an update to fold the 352KB into the stable. Funny, most guntube videos are less than 10 minutes long. Even my “short” ones are considered long!
If you ever want a shocker. Get a model 1917 Smith, model 25-15, or a model 24. The 1917 specifically is almost the same weight (plus or minus an ounce) as a a 4” k frame with the heavy barrel. The tapered barrel 45s and the 44 specials weigh close to the same weight as a 6” k frame with the heavy target barrel.
Look through my library of videos!

@@MilsurpGarage LOL! I did, I did! I was joking about the one dude who left a dislike, but one would have to have seen Michael Mann 1986's film 'Manhunter' to get it. Spoiler Alert: Will Graham carried a Bulldog when he confronted the Toothfairy at the end.... Great film!
I own a Overland that I bought new in 1970, for $65.30 and that was including tax and shipping. Mine is a bit different as I bought the 28" barrels which were right barrel modified and the left full. The earlier ones were also Greener cross bolts which was the third bite in UK speak. I killed many ducks and geese with it til they went to steel shot, then a pump with changeable tubes replaced it. I need a right hand sear for it now and can't find one.
I’ve heard that parts for those are scarce.
What is best choke for the up air target like moving flying birds ?
That is a question that requires a major amount of additional information. What gun, ammo, distance, type of bird, barrel length…… That’s like saying, what kind of hook do I need to catch a fish? Its a question debated on over the finest points.

It needs a competent gunsmith familiar with this model to fix it up.
The round section o ring seems to be a pretty good stand-in.
It certainly is…… it worked very well. I will be using the replacement flat washer for now as Terry (the eBay seller) wants me to test it and follow up with him long term and I agreed. The o-ring I selected needs a test too!
Nicely done!

Was amazed to see that weeks after this video, todays newly dropped Joe Rogan Experience #2171 features Eric Weinstein & Terrence Howard.
Millsurp Garage, Since a shotgun is a point and shoot firearm it stands to reason that some of them just fit and feel better when handeling them. I owned a lot of shotguns of the semi and slide action and SxS type and as much as I like the looks of Remingtons I have found myself favoring the Mossberg 500 suits my type of shooting the best. My second choice is a a simple Stevens 311 SxS in 20 gauge. I am a hunter of small game and not very good on the sporting clays range . I too like finding good guns that just need some attention and make the clean up and repair . Good job on this model 58 you and the shotgun most certainly deserve the Score 24 Award.👍👍👍🍻🇺🇸✌🏻😎
Thanks! Yup....too many 24's!
