  • Next up is the Glock 17 Gen 1 Classic announced one year ago today at Shot Show in Las Vegas on January 17, 2023. This is a Lipsey’s exclusive much like the P80 Classic Edition introduced a few years ago. This Glock has features that only a factory made tribute can have like a retooled Gen 1 pebble finish frame and familiar Gen 1 cues like the flat extractor, smooth trigger, small button mag release, and front and rear polymer sights. It looks and feels like a classic Gen 1 with the internals and countless mechanical and safety upgrades of the current Gen 5.......what a great idea.
    I love shooting this thing.....collector value out the window.....it’s my favorite Glock to bring to the range!
    Thanks for tuning in!

    Just picked one up 3 days ago! I remember when I first saw a Glock when I was younger. Always wanted the OG 17, this will do just fine! BYW, Glock is the best pistol EVER made! Thanks Gaston, RIP

    I remember when they first hit the market here, looking just like yours. The sales started slowly, but when they started to be adopted by U.S. and foreign police agencies (and some foreign militaries), they took off. My sons have Glocks, and I accept the fact that they are very reliable, have superb aftermarket parts and accessories, and are acceptably accurate. Frankly, I thought Glock was likely to win the DoD contract. But I am not a big fan of striker fired pistols with no safety other than the trigger spur. I tend to favor the DA/SA action with safety/decocker. The polymer frame has a number of advantages that we all recognize, and has become ubiquitous.

    Have a Pistole 80 Glock from Lypseys excusive few years ago and only shot it a bit and just a smooth shooting 9mm. I remember seeing my first Glock 17 way back in 1991 in back of my coworkers car on 2nd shift at Newport News Shipbuilding and I thought how futuristic it looked at 21 years old .

      @MilsurpGarage  Před 5 měsíci

      Not sure but if I had to guess I would say the original Gen 1 G17 might have been a tiny bit thinner than Gen 5 but by such a small margin you would have to measure to even see it. As far as the G17 classic, again just a guess, but I would say they use identical slides to the Gen 5.

    How does this Gen 1 17 differ from the P80??

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks to M 7 on the Glock Talk forum I found this…..
      “The P80 has a 'P80' slide marking (instead of '17') and a standard serial number. The Gen 1 17 has a 5-digit numeric serial number with a GEN1 suffix and a '17' slide marking. Neither offering is a true Gen 1 as they are built on Gen 3 frames, slides, and internals. Lipsey's states that the finish on both is the nDLC coating used on Gen 5 Glocks, but it is not; it's the black finish over gas nitrided surface being used on current Gen 3s.”
      Production numbers and what’s included in the box are also different.

    • @user-ur7bf1in4h
      @user-ur7bf1in4h Před 3 měsíci

      The finish is different and the mags and internal parts are different and newer.

    My friend just purchased this Glock 17 Gen 1 Classic. I got to shoot it.
    It's basically a Gen 5 Glock 17, that are stopping production, and filled the gap with a Gen 5 Glock 17 that has the classic grip, no under frame rail and just 2 magazines.
    So, the Glock 17 Gen 1 Classic is actually a bit cheaper than the real Gen 5 G17.
    Drop safety, beveled mag well, Gen 5 trigger, new style barrel,,, ALL GOOD... !
    I like this pistol, it takes Gen 2-5 double notched magazines, so, it's a Gen 5 that looks like a Gen 1.
    This Gen one classic is actually better than the original gen one.
    The only Fvck-up Glock did with this Glock 17 Gen 1 Classic was the front cut out on the mag well.
    Pinches your hand if you're not paying attention when slapping in a fresh magazine.
    Hopefully, Glock will release another version of the Glock 17 Gen 1 Classic WITH OUT the stupid cut out in the front of the mag-well. DUMB- JUST DUMB... !

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      I think that’s put there to help facilitate magazine removal during a stoppage. Kind of made for your thumb to fit in there. I think they sell little buttons that fit in there that actually hold a spare round. Maybe one of those will help stop this pinching problem you encounter. Just a thought. Thanks for tuning in!

      The Milsurp Garage channel might be a bit different, I’ll admit. When I do a video on a specific topic, I might not know every single thing about it and occasionally leave it to my small but knowledgeable community of viewers to help fill in the details via comments. Works well that way as there are certainly specialists out there on specific topics and their expertise is welcomed.
      Guess there was a magazine detail that slipped through the cracks.
      Actually, Glock magazine compatibility can be a video all on its own.

      You’re comparing a firearm that came out in the early 1980’s to something that Slovenia dropped in the last few years. Apples and oranges, sir. No one is carrying these things; they’re collectors pieces because Glock had a program where if you turned in your gen 1 you got a discount on a gen 2.
