- Welcome! This is a follow up to the video below where we take an in depth look at the gas system of the 1956 Remington Sportsman 58 and see how we can do some routine maintenance to increase its reliability and ability to maintain a gas seal at the barrel ring. This is a weak point in this design that can hopefully be remedied here and now......LETS GO!!!!

Fascinating. That ring sure looks like it will perform properly. I could almost feel it myself when you said you could feel it smoosh as you tightened the cap. I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Most common thing to fail on Remington autos. I keep a bag of o-rings around for my model 1100s.
This will be an interesting series.
I think your o ring will work just fine. If not, maybe one with a lil thicker cross section.
Grand River Rubber makes square section rings; maybe worth checking out.
You will find out tomorrow, stay tuned! Square washers arrived today as well. Just in time for RANGE day tomorrow.
