Your message is valid and important. I do feel like the interlaced clips of Phil is either clickbaiting him into a reaction or trying to put blame on him in some unfair way. As someone who rode with Phil in college at UF, I'll share my story. Phil has been 145-155 pounds or thereabouts for nearly 20 years. I remember going to his house which he shared with 2-3 of our teammates and seeing a hypoxia chamber for altitude training while at sea level in Florida. I think the issue at hand here is that you're just watching someones videos without understanding the actual amount of work that goes into maintaining the physique. There is truly no way you can grasp it through youtube or even phone calls with him. Were talking world class coaching, lots of team support, mentors, and an insane amount of hard work and 20 years of dedication. Your criticism should be levied at the platforms that reinforce and optimize to show only peoples best side and not all the supporting work and costs that got them there. Great video anyway.

New TCR seems like good choice

Cervelo has the 4 bike you guys are talking about. S5, R5, Soloist and Caledonia. Jumbo has been using the Soloist in races. With Sram Red or Dura Ace and depending on what wheels you put on you can that bike down to 7.1-7.2kg.

CZcams tutorials on how to fix things are so good these days you can easily learn how to fix anything. Investment in tools is just an investment in yourself and saves money down the track

I don’t get Jesse’s complaints re buying a bike from one of the big manufacturers and having to change everything. Why not just buy a frame set?

on the point of the wide tyres in unbound. wider tyres that are mtbesquare are faster on uneven terrain. the reduction of vibration and micro-suspension allows the kinetic energy for the bike to move forwards rather then being pushed up. this is one of the more recent revelation in the dirt world

I'm excited to see Jesse riding his new disc brake bike. I'm particularly interested in hearing his thoughts on the CRW 65/65 wheelset. It would be great if he could also compare it to the Reserve 52/63, which appears to be its closest competitor in terms of aero profile. I'm curious to learn how the 300g weight difference will impact this comparison.

I enjoyed the podcast but were these serious comments about Chris just now learning how to change a chain or was this just for content? Just seems absolutely crazy for an experienced cyclist who has run a team. I started riding a few years ago and have never once paid for labour at a bike shop. I can understand paying mechanics to work on cars where engines and gearboxes are heavy, there are so many parts and diagnosing issues can be annoying, putting the car on jack stands and crawling under is a hassle, but like...this is a bicycle lol.

Jessie's explanation of having to swap out everything with a new bike is exactly why I went with Winspace frame and build it up exactly as I want it rather than having to get rid of have the spec and buy new wheels, cranks, stem, bars, wheels, saddle, etc.

Only bike job i dont do myself are wheel hubs and freehub bearings, so many different tools and specifics depending on the brand of hub i would rather just take it to a shop, also as far as Chris' s grx gremlins i would put money on it being a pinched wire or a dodgy battery, ive had a wire pinch in the headset area on an integrated set up

I will say SRAMs videos and online manuals are super helpful and make setting everything up pretty idiotic proof

Role of the bike shop? Two days out from the Tour of Flanders Gran Fondo. Purchase a fifty dollar shimano brake bleed kit. Screw the syringe into the bleed assembly giving it an extra tweek to make sure it won't leak. Snap the thread on the syringe. Read the instructions - DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE. Wheel the bike 500 metres to the local bike shop. Pick it up the same day with optimised brakes.

The Tavelo frame comes from a Factor-y does it?

Great show!! As always. You should go for the Galfer rotors. They are so much better than Shimanos or SRAM. They don't bend and after heavy breaking and they are really light:)

I'll argue BB change (especially press fit) should be for the shop. I DIY but if you don't know what you're doing to cost of messing it up is high..and sometimes those things tlare TOIT

Connex make a re-usable 12 speed chain link. Ideal for waxing chains (off and on) and it requires no tools to connect and disconnect. Use a set pair of chains for ideal maintenance swaps.

I totally agree about the joy of making a bike custom from scratch (crank and handlebar length). Why would you pay a premium price for a brand name bike that you need to change parts out…

@ChrisMillerCycling Buying a new chain every 3 months is crazy! If you're keeping it in good knick, you're just throwing away money. Shimano chains last a long time too! A chain checker will save you a ton of money

I’ve watched since you began and took a break for a coupla months (the algo stopped feeding me your show but suddenly began again ( I watch mostly cycling shows Arthur, Cade, GC Perf, Lantern R, Chris Horner, Vegan Cyclist even GNC - missed yours because I learn the most in a tight package). I’m writing because I have to say you’ve stepped up production values yet another notch - looks great!

Great idea, you can make a nice, high-end road bike using both mainstream and Chinese parts. Trifox has the x16 and x18 Speedsters which are very affordable integrated disc framesets, but can become platforms for a high-end build if you get the right components. I have a respectably light x16 Speedster with 12 speed DI2 Ultegra groupset, Dura Ace brakes and chainrings. I don't think the wheel source Trifox uses is very good, and the x16 handlebars are open mold design and generic; the x18 handlebars look a bit generic also. Essentially, the brand is a good 2nd Wave? frame manufacturer that uses some cheaper components to flesh out the framesets. I'll do a full review for my build soon, it came in under $4500. I've changed out the Trifox seat and will be changing the handlebars soon for different, 3rd Wave Chinese parts. Making a complete bike for the price of a mainstream branded frameset is getting pretty attractive for the average rider.

I’m so excited for Jesse to start riding this new setup. I want his no-nonsense take on the groupset and frame. If it’s reliable and decent setup, makes me more amenable to using these components on my next build.

so jessie just mentions towards the end of his build description he is getting the majority of it for free. I can't imagine how he come up with this particular choice of build then 🤔. Surely it wouldnt be because it just happens to be for free rather than having to fork out for it. Looking forward to the unbiased review 🙄

I'm excited to see the build! I am sure it will be fast. Going from 2017 Canyon to 2022 Elves made me around 3 km/h faster at 200w. I'm surprised how little bike work Chris does, for someone who loves the equipment chat that much 😂

Also park tool has amazing videos on how to do basically any maintenance task on a bike

I’m pretty handy fixing bikes and I’d argue Chris shouldn’t touch bleeding brakes until the end of his journey. Easy to mess up, easy to get bleed fluid on rotors and pads and ruin them, he’d need to buy separate bleed kits for sram and shimano, etc. also being able to stop is pretty important
