Agreed-temperature /dewpoint spread most of the summer for my region is less than 5 degress (meaning relative humidity is always high), so nothing wicks, with possible exception of Castelli climber's jersey. Long sleeve is for sun protection, it is hotter, but some time less annoying than sun screen.

In the BMC range the numerical “01” refers to their top level carbon layup. The word “one” then refers to the spec on the bike. The Roadmachine with no “01” after it is their second tier frame. This is also the case with their Teammachine, etc.
As someone who works in a store that sells BMC, I have never had a customer that enters the store understanding the BMC lineup

    • @JustSueMe
      @JustSueMe Před měsícem +5

The fact that they named their (TT) bike 'Timemachine' and their aero bike, which isn't related to the TT bike, 'Timemachine Road,' and then naming their new aero bike 'Teammachine R' ditching the 'Timemachine' branding for their racebike line which is also named 'Teammachine' doesn't help either.

I absolutely love the MAAP long sleeve summer jerseys. Absolutely perfect for 20-30 degrees, keeps sun away, a bit warmer for cold descents, looks great, no tan lines. Above 30 degrees, I'm applying so much sunscreen it blocks all my pores anyways - and on long days I would need to reapply it either way, so the more body I can cover, the better. Covered sleeves don't really matter in heat to me.

It’s actually makes a lot of sense when you know the formula. But just reads as confusion and messy to anyone who doesn’t understand the key points.
Roadmacyine 01 (signifies top end carbon frame) then ONE TWO THREE etc indicates build level ie groupset and wheel choice or basically price point.
Roadmachine 02 is mid level carbon frame layup ONE TWO THREE. Etc again indicates build specs.
Roadmachine 01 ONE vs 02 ONE - exact build specs apart from cheaper/heavier frame.

Putting sunscreen on prior to heading out at 5:30am is kind of pointless as it’s sweated off by the time I need it. Never have I felt hot because my forearms are covered. On the hookless pearl clutching and asking for warning labels: do you think the same about carbon parts and torque settings? They’re both capable of catastrophic failure if done up incorrectly. I can remember old curmudgeon masters racers bitching about carbon parts 20 years ago when I first got into the sport. Hookless max psi is just a new specification to keep track of, no different than torquing carbon. If you’re ok with fine print “5nm” stamped on a stem, “72.5psi max” on a sidewall should be fine too, without all the hysterics. Next topic :)

"Running Di2 on a gravel ride is completely inappropriate."
True. I once tried to run Di2 on a gravel road and my bike exploded. I then was arrested by the gravel police for for running 2x on gravel roads because we all know that it's the law to run a 1x setup. Shimano on gravel? What is this world coming to?
Hopefully obvious sarcasm because this is just a dumb take by Chris. Literally have been running 2x12 Ultegra Di2 on my Crux with a road wheelset and gravel wheelset and never had issues. I'm completely confused where this idea came from that you can't run Di2 on gravel. Like your chain will jump off the instant you touch gravel unless you have a clutched derailleur. Out of touch.

Teams like St George shouldn’t just be an u23 talent factory where the rider(s) just move on to a pro team, I’d argue what’s the point of that? Does the team get paid by the pro team to purchase a contracted u23 rider? No way, could be wrong tho 🤷‍♀️. Better to have a team of guys who wanna race, enjoy the process and are looking to improve no matter the age.

My understanding of the BMC Roadmachine / Roadmachine 01 is that the frames are identical (check the weights) but the fork is different, the 01 fork is lighter and has a shape which allows for full cable integration and uses a foam filled cavity to accept the steerer bolt.
I own a 22’ Roadmachine One and it really is a great all rounder, descended the Pyrenees on it last year and it’s just wonderful, running Nine Velo 45mm wheels and 28mm tyres and it’s plenty fast enough.
My one criticism is the front to rear comfort is taking some dialling in, the rear end js exceptional but on UK roads im finding the front quite harsh on some of our less smooth tarmac. I’m down to 55psi and think it actually needs a 30/32mm tyre to truly work on our roads.

I am just over 6 feet so both bikes were on the big side. I tried to convince myself, and others, it was better and I almost believed it. I bought a used 2018 allez (58) for $650 in 2018 and I could not believe I had wasted so mu ch time riding badly sized huge bike but I just dug in and didn’t want to admit the fact my bike was stolen made me had a less good time riding. In December 2023 I bought a used SL6 hydraulic disc break bike for $2000.. so much better is not even a contest. Minute 37: begins describing sweat gradient wicking to argue against moisture wicking technology.
On another note. Normally during the spring and early summer I wear short sleeves, but on the hottest most humid days, I do wear a long sleeved base layer. First, I sweat like nobody could imagine, and moisture pools more in my bibs instead of evaporating. Second, I have dark skin that absorbs more light and therefore heat than the white baselayer I wear. The base layer keeps my entire upper body cool, and as I’m riding helps that sweat gradient work. I can understand how seeing a LS base layer or LS summer jersey during the summer can seem counterintuitive, but don’t knock it until you try it.

Long sleeve chat got me thinking... If fabric has greater surface area than skin (the knit) it may increase evaporation opportunity BUT balanced vs. any insulative properties .. Evaporation also shite in low-speed high humidity (QLD summer climb), so the balance is dynamic... good in low humidity sunny flat higher speed riding, as wetting your arms is noticeably cooling (FNQ winter) ...

Best part of that new BMC Endurance bike? It looks like their Team Machine race bike. So you won't feel embarrassed riding the endurance model because it doesn't look racey. Plus, 40mm tire clearance? That's amazing for the ability to throw some knobby cross tires on for some light gravel riding.

I am running Reynolds Blacklabel 60's 21mm Internal with 2.1 MTB tires on my gravel bike. Also, your Di2 quandary is change your rear derailleur and cassette and your Di2 will not handle your gravel. Or change your front inner ring to something smaller to fit the needs. Di2 is capable you just seem to be missing the options stuck in your narrow minds. 🤣 I love to listen to just how shallow you both appear at times stuck in your little bubble. As for the long sleeve jersey's are they not showing SPF50 or something? I prefer those over sunscreen because it sweat so much and it basically is null and void inside of 30 minutes. And when my sleeves get wet when I stop the moistures acts as a small cooling agent.

Pandering? In other words, you define "pandering" as "trying to appeal to an audience not your own." By your definition, CZcams Channels that appeal to the fixie crowd is pandering. CZcams channels appealing to collectors of vintage bicycles is also pandering. If a channel is trying to establish their own niche, then that is pandering? Tell you what. Some people would say that your channel is pandering to the bike manufacturers. Others would not be so kind. They would call your channel "GCN Wannabees" or "sellouts".

One of the blokes at CCACHE I chatted (well I ranted) to the other week about mentioned he needed a zero setback seat post yet his bike had a proprietary seatpost set up and the bike manufacturer only made a set back option. . 🫠

Bmc isn't the only brand that uses numbers for model variants.
Norco and Trek do it as well.
Generally speaking, the higher the number, the lower down the spec chain the bike is.
Then there's Merida using 10 through 10,000 for their model numbers, and they use an ascending scale, with 10 being bottom-end,and 10k being the best there is.
With BMC, the 01 is the better frameset version (better carbon layup, lighter weight etc), and then the number after that is the spec level of the components fitted to it.
The X is their cyclocross variant. The 1x gravel groupsets and 33mm tyres may have been a clue towards that.
It's not hard to understand if you take more than 5sec to look at it.
Endurance bikes suit far more riders than race geometry bikes do. Way less people need or can comfortably ride a long and low race bike for hours in a gran fondo.
A road machine on 30's or 32's wonderful to ride in something like the Snowy classic.
    If you're 20yrs old,are flexible and are doing crits,buy a Team machine.
If you're 35+ and doing fondos and club rides, get a road machine.
If you're doing Cyclocross, get a Road machine X.
If you're doing gravel racing, get a Kaius.

The reason Trek sends it to the retailer is that they want your bike to fit and work for you. They also go over the paint you have selected to make sure it is exactly what you want. They dont want every punter to buy a bike and be like this is crap, it dosent fit and looks nothing like I wanted. Plus, project one builds start at about 8 K USD

Cycling can be enjoyed on any bike and showing people you can put a great bike together for little money is great for getting people into cycling. Many of us grew up on a bike like that and had the best experience. Not all have us have been hypnotised by the marketing or have 6 grand for a bike. If fancy equipment is the reason you enjoy cycling you are lacking and making fun out of stuff like this is a poor show. Be humble
