Swimming at Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park
Taking a refreshing dip at Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park, a natural gem of an area located in the wilderness by the Suwannee River. The area has several miles of trails which highlight geological features along the way such as sinkholes, underwater caves and karst windows. After a nice hike here I like to take a swim and cool off. It’s fun to snorkel around the spring and see underwater features. It’s very relaxing and the water stays at around 70 degrees year round. The area is popular for cave diving so you often see divers swimming in and out of the caves at the springs. The underwater cave system here is one of the largest in the U.S. and award winning state park. Enjoy the adventures and thank you for watching! Please be safe and respectful of the sites here at the park.

You're exposing many of Florida's long forgotten habitat sites. It is incredible how nature transforms these old ruins into an abundance of flora and fuana sanctuaries. Many old mines in central Florida have become gardens of inate beauty and exotic expanse. Your exploration and recording of these amazing treasures are very important and valuable. Many natural areas, even though once had industry and habitation, soon recover as plant communities dominate rather quickly. Love your videos! Keep them coming. They are true Florida treasure!❤

I started leading cave exploration school groups to Dames Cave in the 1990s for the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa. Dames Cave has been abused by the public for many decades, but it still is an extremely fantastic cave to visit. There was an archeological excavation by archeologists in 1993 determining that Native Americans around 10,000 years ago used this cave for shelter and a source for chert. This prehistoric sink has many small side caves fun to explore. One of my students found a Bolon native American spear point in a deep recess at the bottom of Dames Cave. The State of Florida owns any archeological finds on state land and must be left where you find them. We left it where it was found! You should always contact the Withlacoochee State Forest Service before visiting the cave system. There are several other caves in its vacinity, and the trails are occasionally closed to perform controlled burns to remove undergrowth that may promote uncontrolled wild fires. One very well known nearby is called Peace Cave because a peace sign was painted on a majestic oak tree near its entrance. It has been gated, and you need to check when the gate is unlocked for field trips. Use discretion as it would be easily get locked in if the state rangers are unaware of your presence. This is another fantasic video exhibiting our local Florida hertige and geology in Citrus County. Thank you for recording this site.

Our historical preservation society in Hernando County Florida placed the Centralia historical marker on US 19 several years ago. This site was a large logging mill from 1910 to 1922. The site now sits on federal land but is accessible to visitors. The site was also used in the 1940s as a military tank gunnery range in World War II. There was a commissary and restaurant for the many families living there when the mill was in use. It is now considered a Florida ghost town. This video is very well documented, and I'm greatfull that this video record existed of this remarkable period in our Florida heritage!❤
