Beginning as a mission and ministry for church staff and volunteers, GENTLE RESPONSE is so much more than just another lecture presentation and slide show! It is a training program specifically designed to help a person develop stress inoculation, muscle memory, self confidence and confidence in other colleagues.
I spent 20 years as a police officer and I am a Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist. My team and I are based in Michigan but travel around the country.
My team and I have worked and trained with staff from a variety of backgrounds and career fields, such as schools, medical facilities, state agencies, churches and other non profits, businesses, law enforcement, security, etc. This training is very applicable, and scenarios customized, to ANY organization that has staff and volunteers who interact with people, and who may encounter a difficult person in a stressful, confrontational situation.

VT trooper fails to De-escalate and costs Vermont money
One of the points I strongly emphasize at my training seminars, especially to the officers who attend my class at the annual OTOA Ohio Tactical Officers Association training conference, is not to become frustrated, offended, or impatient. That only increases the likelihood that you will do or say something that will escalate the situation.

June 18, 2024: I live only about 5 minutes away from Eastmanville Bayou and for years I have told myself I need to do some float fishing there. Earlier today, 061824, I finally made it happen! I only had about an hour to spare, so I grabbed my float tube, my 5-wt rod, and headed out. It was overcast and a light drizzle was falling, and I caught nothing until I made the decision to call it. That dentist is in for a tough trial. Fighting this one will be like pulling teeth.
LOL yeah he is! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
Shouldn't have attacked, but anyone that thinks they were OK to be on the path hasn't played golf. Often if someone is on a path it delays a shot because they could get hit. It's not a sidewalk meant for a stroll. If people were allowed to randomly walk on the paths, play would pretty much stop while old farts meandered along their merry way. Stay off the course unless you're playing. I assure you that the club restricts access and there's a very good reason.
Yes indeed, certainly could have been handled much differently! Thank you for taking a moment to comment
Another good day on the lake.
Yes it was! I've not spent anytime there and not caught anything 👍
The only reason he did it, was because it was an older couple who could not defend themselves against him. Do you think he would have behaved that way, if it were Mike Tyson walking down the path?
LOL yea probably not!! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
"How awesome is that to go for a nice walk on a quiet golf course..." Also, it's likely trespassing.
Nope, not trespassing when you live near a golf course and there are paths all around! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
The couple should not be on the golf cart path. It absolutely is affecting a game they paid for.
Indeed it could have been handled much better! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
You don't belong taking walks on a golf course! Yes the golfer has to wait for you to be in a safe place before they can hit their ball! That basically means behind the golfers position. This can take a long time especially on a long par 4 or par 5. The couple walking number one is trespassing! The golfer has a right to be mad! There are normally many people behind you waiting to play! That said, the golfer definitely did not have any right to get violent! yes send him to jail but also fine the couple or being on the golf course in the first place!
Agreed, stay off the private golf course.
Then report them to the golf course police.
Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
@@thatguyjoe007 Hey I said what the guy did was wrong! Did you read the entire post or just what shows? Yeah you tell the course Marshal or call the club house.
@@thatguyjoe007 yes, the marshal
guy needs a good 10 years in an orange jumpsuit to rethink his choices
But his game would suffer from such a long time away from the links!
do they have golf courses in prison?

It certainly could have been handled better! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
the dentist is a damn coward, one of these days someone is going to separate his teeth from his big mouth
Hope the Dentist LOSES everything in a Lawsuit
He has been sued, so that is coming down the pipeline too! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
i think he's the type that are so way way superior to other people, and not afraid to let you know at times........
yeah, I think you are right! It certainly could have been handled better! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
The idea of this "Dentist" being sodomized in prison for beating an old man with a golf cub (attempted murder) sounds like justice to me, but only if it goes on for many decades.
You portrayed the message about needless violence very succinctly.Whole episode is avoidable by not strolling on golf courses, highways, train tracks, airport runways...
LOL It could have been much better handled! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
Dentists! Lock him up!
The imbecile was probably playing a crappy game and just enraged.
This guy had major anger issues before this incident happened guaranteed. He was probably a ticking timebomb who needed counseling of some kind and unfortunately probably never got it. Now he must face the consequences of his violent anger action.
Sad that his son may grow up and be just like his Dad. Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
@@GentleResponseLLC Maybe not. Kids tend to gravitate away from the bad things they see in their parents. This kid has a strong reminder of why reasonable people don't act that way.
I did security for a Pastor, 25 years, with no incidents or ever having to draw my weapon. We were trained to take care of the issue before it became a problem. Never disturbing the service. Congregation was not even aware, if there was an issue unless they were told about it. It was an honor working with a great team, well trained, teachable, disciplined, respect for one another, and being True Men of Faith. Every Church has these type of folks, just need to find them. Men of God who are ready to protect God's House and his Children. We only serve One God, The Great I Am.
A boring day or evening is a successful day or evening! Over the last few years I am finding more and more people with a rather heavy-handed mindset and idea about how to handle and negotiate situations, and unfortunately they are inadvertently escalating situations. I'm trying to remind folks not to forget that it's a ministry and to adopt a ministry mindset! That doesn't mean you are not trained, prepared, and vigilant! Thanks for taking a moment to comment! Have a blessed day!
The Vest you wear, is it still available on the market somewhere? We are looking for something like this for our church team.
I found it on Amazon several years ago, it's really a great fit and as you can see looks really sharp! It's currently unavailable but here's the link -www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XF3374D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm sure you can still find it from another vendor!

I can see how people inserting themselves can further complicate the situation for the security team.
Yes indeed, especially if you have a person who is also yelling and screaming and angry! Thank you for taking a moment to comment!
Good points. I have experienced all of those scenarios and additional bystanders inserting themselves into a medical/security/CIT situation is very counterproductive on many levels.
Yes indeed, definitely adds to the confusion and stress, regardless of that person's professional training and background! Thank you for taking a moment to comment!
I hate to say but I read and studied this country. This is a violent country with no morality at all. We may say we’re Christians but in reality we also believe in eye for an eye. I work in Customer Service the people’s attitudes are becoming worse. Customers are not always right. If anything the store should have banned the old man from the store
That's certainly an option that should be considered more often!
Blessings to you and your training to these police officers.

What about not getting timeto be able to take a breaks one of us arebombardwith so much of life crapyou hardly get time to breath let alone time to yourself
Yeah I get it! That's why it is so important to be intentional about taking some time for yourself! When I can't go flying, I go fishing, even if for just an hour and I catch nothing! It's good to get away from it all for even just a bit!
Remember Proverbs 26:17 (paraphrased) “he who gets involved in a fight not belonging to him is like one who takes a dog by the ears”

Never be afraid to engage in conversation with a potential adversary, but also don't let yourself be drawn into their mental state.
Yes indeed, well said! Develop and maintain situation awareness and self-discipline to effectively adapt to fluid situations! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
Thanks for sharing this message. Wondering, if you know, was the HOW held responsible in any way? Where/are any civil law suites against the HOW?
That's a great question and I have not seen anything to that effect yet and hopefully not!!! But I believe the family has about a year or two to decide if they're going to hold the HOW responsible so that still remains to be seen.
As far as bifocals and progressives are concerned, were you aware that it is possible to put the reading prescription ON THE TOP? The reverse order compared to what is traditionally used. Massad Ayoob did a video on it.
Yea, I got a buddy of mine on the church safety team with tri-focals, with that type of set up. But I believe he ended up putting the reading prescription back at the bottom because he didn't need it on top all the time, and he was bending his head awkwardly and steeply during normal day-to-day use.
These short conversations about specific incidents are very educational. I'm not afraid to admit it is way to easy to get " sucked down the rabbit hole." These situations need to be played out to see how easy they can go sideways. I feel for everyone involved in the situation and agree it could have been avoided. I find keeping in mind that we are Church for whosoever is a great start to any interaction. Job #1 bring people to Christ.
Developing a ministry mindset will help with empathy and compassion for our fellow man! Thanks for taking a moment to comment buddy!
Great suggestions. Man locally is going through a similar response at a Walmart. Breaking contact when things are escalated for nothing is a great concept. So many times we want to fix or end the situation when we need to recognize we are not effective. Thanks
Yes indeed, it can be challenging to maintain that situation awareness and self-discipline to recognize when it's time to break contact and then walk away! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
