  • A protester picked Mission church in Arizona and ended up having an encounter with church staff and volunteers that would have been mitigated with conflict de-escalation training, knowledge, and skills.
    3 teaching points:
1- Slow down and assess the situation, do you really have to engage?
2- Look out for each other, work as a team!
3- Recognize when you should disengage and simply walk away.

I know it isn't the point of the video, but why do we in security use the phrase that someone is being trespassed? It doesn't even make sense linguistically, but professional lingo does not excuse bad grammar.
OK, now back on point, I see a mix of behavior styles among the staff. It is clear that the flag waver is not going to be reasoned with, a few of his statements show that he blindly throws around buzzwords. I am not sure if anything said by staff would have not offended him. I agree with the wait and see attitude but since this guy probably wanted a confrontation over all else, but I suspect this incident was going to go south no matter what was said or done.

Yup, thanks for taking a moment to comment! That's why it is so important to assess a person/situation and consider whether it is really worth your time and effort to even bother trying to engage. And once it is obvious that the other person just wants to be argumentative, having the self discipline to just walk away is very important.
