      Jerry Eich we do, or rather, we should. They’re not the main problem here though. The protests (and yes, the vast majority of protesters are not, in fact, Hooligans; I know this might come as a bit of a shock to you) are against police brutality and for more police accountability, but what are they met with? More police violence, and less accountability. See the problem here?

    • @jordinagel1184
      @jordinagel1184 Před 4 lety +3

      Rich Mayer where on Earth did you only get 9 from!? Last year, the total number of people killed by police officers was 1099. Out of those, the proportion of white deaths was 1.6 per 1 million people; for blacks, it was 5.9 per 1 million people. Those are numbers straight from the Census Bureau.

    • @jordinagel1184
      @jordinagel1184 Před 4 lety +4

      Rich Mayer I’m not saying that all cops are bad. I am, however, no longer going to be accepting the argument of “There’s only a few bad apples.” We’ve had waaaay too many incidents for that to still ring true. Look, what people want most is leas brutality and more accountability. They can only be achieved by reforming the police system in its entirety. A police officer who did not participate in a case like Eric Garner’s or George Floyd’s certainly should not be tried for it; but an officer who knows about these incidents, and lets them happen over and over, or even tries to cover them up, needs to think hard what his job should really be about (and it’s not about having the backs of your fellow cops even when they commit a crime). Police brutality and their lack of accountability has sadly been a problem for a long time. In the past, voices were raised, with similar demands to now, and change was promised. Nothing changed in the end, though. Therefore, the police force in America as a whole needs to be radically altered.

      The rioters & attacks on police are exactly a great reason to militarize and to hide badge numbers (e.g. if there was a potential security breach).

      You may walk away without interacting. You are not required to talk to a verified officer unless he has probable cause. But in any official interaction, particularly where he wants your name, he must give his. Most agencies require the officer to have his department ID to show if asked, because badge facsimiles may be ordered by mail, as novelty items.
      In the strictest sense, even if he detains you, your name, useful in a warrant search, is potentially incriminating, and you are not bound in any case to give evidence against yourself. Some officers, even though they stopped you, may try to charge with delaying an officer, so use your judgment. I can only say if you give your name and it is used to pull a warrant, especially if it is a person other than you, then be sure your lawyer knows you were not mirandized first. If on the other hand, he gives you your rights, first, then tell him you choose to remain silent, and if you're not under arrest, you'll be on your way. If he says he just wants to ask a few questions, tell him you already chose not to. Have a nice day. The truth is, once someone refuses to speak, questioning may not immediately resume. He knows that. If you talk further, you just waived your right. If you slip and say the wrong thing, he can claim probable cause. Move away without delay, even if he asks if you have something to hide. That question violates the essence of the 5th Amendment. Keep walking.
      So if, except in probable cause, or to warn about a restricted area, anyone identifying as an officer may be ignored. If he walks up in front, walk wide around him. If he approaches from behind, keep walking. Do not raise a hand even to wave. Don't give any appearance that can be used as an excuse. If he puts a hand on you, back away from him, saying clear enough for others, that he has no reason to be touching you like that. The double meaning should be enough. If he tries to follow, keep backing away. Tell him youre not interested, and you will file an assault charge if he keeps it up. That should stop him. Then turn away from him and walk quickly. Your last resort is, "No, you couldn't pay me enough," said loudly enough to embarrass him. If he is real, with no just cause, or if he is fake, he will leave you alone. Remember, if you end up walking back where you came from, you still avoided injury.
      Remember, if he has probable cause, like you just jaywalked, he has authority to detain and question. But a random stop carries no obligation. As long as you make no moves that could be described as a threat, just keep walking, staying at least 3 feet from him.
      The use of badges, patches and name tags, as well as ID cards, is to prevent impersonation. Our local department once issued a directive that even with flashing lights, an unmarked car was not to be stopped for, but the driver should go to a well populated area first. If a person just flashed a badge, he was to be asked to show his department ID and call for a marked unit and uniformed officer. So your concern is real.
      I seriously believe the highest commanders did not authorize the ID hiding. Perhaps a squad leader or watch commander did it. It is a stupid idea, allowing one bad act to be blamable on everyone. Good officers should never agree to that.

      What's so funny is trump is doing exactly what right wing media was fearmongering about what Obamas was going to do,? Declare Martial Law to negate the 2012 election to stay in power. Remember the black helicopters and the infantry was going to be patrolling the streets?Now that the trump administration has gone full out ordering government law enforcement agencies to openly engage in violating our rights to peacefully protest against police brutality and violence and freelance murdering of people of African DESCENT.

    If they have no badge number nor any way to identify themselves they have no authority. That’s why it’s easy to find out police impersonators, because they don’t wear them or if they do it doesn’t match with official info. It’s a basic thing that all officers should carry, and I’m surprised it’s not mandatory already.
