The only acceptable time using "this was hard" as a reason for failure is when you warn people about it BEFORE they purchase the product, and, warn them about the potential problems. Like a doctor would do with an intense procedure, they would warn you up front of its success rate and potential hazards, but they dont do that at all at BGS. BGS will sell you on how perfect something is, and then they'll say "it was hahwrd to do 😢" when it comes out as shit.

Emil's the kind of guy who got told one time that someone didn't play games for the story, and decided that he needed to talk down to his audience forever as a result because they're all idiots and not worth his effort.

Emil is such an inspiration, if a complete HACK, entitled, self important and unskilled person can reach those levels of "success" in one of the most successful software companies currently, anyone can. The part about "write what you know" is actually physically cringe he purposefully misinterpreted the meaning of the saying to excuse his complete incompetence. It's not "just write what you already know dummy" it's "get up your lazy ass and GO OUT there and LEARN and EDUCATE yourself about the whole planet so you CAN WRITE about it". I hope Emil gets fired, because he will never quit. He just see money and status.

writing simple stories is just a complete misunderstanding of Bethesda's audience. They make open-world RPG's, not call-of-duty-hayday-candy-crush games. The audience they're attracting is interested in fictional worlds, accepts long playtimes and is captivated by intricate plotlines and complex themes. You need only look at the Witcher 3. I had no clue what was going on in the first 10 hours of gameplay, but because I enjoy complex stories and open worlds, I took it to myself to learn the backstories and lore. It's okay if that's not something you enjoy doing, but if you don't, open-world RPG's aren't designed for your kind of enjoyment. Morrowind and Oblivion aren't designed with you in mind. But apparently, with all this treating of the buyers and players of open-world RPG's like they're barbaric cavemen who can only shoot and slash, the narrators think they can cater to both audiences. In reality, it just makes the experience worse for the players who prefer this kind of medium in the first place.

I am genuinely bewildered that they don't use a design doccument. Like, WHAT THE FUCK????? SERIOUSLY WHAT???

The irony of these liberal women of color who always display disdain and contempt for white men is that a majority of them still date white men exclusively. I like F4 more than nv(nv was the best for me in its prime but now it has a wooden gameplay for me) but true F4 has the weakes story I fully agree with you

This video sucks. Bethesda sucks but this video does so little to actually delve into what their issues are and why they exist. Its just surface level parroting the basic understandings and complaints people make and is a waste of time.

The last good game they made was Morrowindand it stands out, because it was a "hail mary pass frack all, we're done as a company if this fails anyways, time to go bananas" which is why we have Silt Striders as fast travel, giant insects that get cracked open to carry passengers and the list goes on and on and guess what? Morrowind saved the company. What came afterwards? SAFETY-BET, European medieval generic fantasy crap at its finest. Fallout? Elder Scrolls with guns. It is a huge copy&paste scheme with minimal changes and we all fell for it again and again. Starfield failed because there was no nostalgia booster available and it made the flaws, that were more or less plainly obvious since Obvilion/FO3, stand out a lot more.

Its a shame cuz there is potential for all those games I think the engine is holding them back, but also their ego. lol

Honestly, if Microsoft decided that all the future Bethesda Games Studios games would be Xbox exclusives, just speaking for myself as a PlayStation-only gamer, I wouldn't be sad. Don't get me wrong, I liked Skyrim, but something tells me the next TES game will most likely disappoint me.

I am mad Obsidian was rejected when they offered to make Elder Scrolls and Fallout spin offs for Bethesda. They release like 1 or 2 games every decade, Elder Scrolls 6 was pushed back to at least 2028 because of Starfield, we won’t see a Fallout game in at least a decade. We could’ve gotten smaller but fun spin offs while Bethesda works on massive scale games but no. Bethesda parades victories long past and believes they are still the shit when they haven’t done anything new that captures that feeling from 2002-2011.

As a Fallout fan through and through, I will not buy any Bethesda game after 76 ever again. I hope the company closes and Inexile buys back Fallout.
