Starfield - The Downfall of Bethesda Games Studios

- Starfield has been one of Bethesda's most hyped games in almost over a decade. And after 8 years of development Starfield unfortunately launches in a mediocre state. With many features missing and a lot of the personality of old Bethesda games absent. Starfield is truly one of the games to ever exist.

It's not "wide as an ocean". There is no ocean. It's just an absurd number of puddles where you can hop in and out.
Exactly !! There is no space, no planets, no galaxies but a MENU that you need to use to fast travel and gives you the illusion of space. The game is not even a RPG game; it is like an adventure-combat game and by the way, mediocre combat game cause I have more fun playing Fallout 4 and if I want to go pro, which one better than The Division 2 for combat ?
Perfect considering you fall into a box in planets
Couldn't of said it better myself
1000 puddles i believe.
1000 puddles complete with obligatory loading screens and mandatory fast travel! 😂
Starfield is the definition of wasted potential
It's still in beta pritty much. Give it 5 years 😂😂😂😂
that's implying that it has any potential to begin with.
@@ameliekkthe idea was the wasted potential lol
More like wasted money, I hope they change engines for es6
Yeah, potentially making Elden Scrolls 6 sooner instead.
"BGS was never really known for writing deep stories"
Brother, play Morrowind and despair at how much damage Tod Howard has done to this studio
there’s a generation of whole adults who never learned how dog-juice their seventh-generation faves really were.
it’s maddening
How did everyone who bought this miss the red flags in Fallout 76?
Copium. Excuse got out that 76 was a non-mainline title from the Austin bathesda team. Well, snorefield exposed that bs
Consumers will consume.
how did everyone who bought Fallout 76 miss the red flags in Fallout 4, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc.
@WeeWeeJumbo I played, & still play all of those games. I actually didn't buy 76 bc Bethesda sucks at weapon balancing in Fallout 4. They are fun games though, but in 2023? That design is so dated
I didn't miss those F-76 flags and therefore gave this a big "fuck no"
Never again Bethesda.
Not even by the standards of 13 years ago Starfield was good. 2011 Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 2, Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and some other bangers released. If anything, Starfield proves how far a lot of triple A gaming has regressed.
Amen. Hell, it's not even near as good as Half-Life...and that came out in 1998, 25 years ago!
Should literally have been set during the evacuation of Earth and set in the Sol system, with the main mission being the creation of the mass drive and exploring Alpha Centauri for your faction of choice.
you sir are infinitely superior to the crap story writers at bethesda
I'm sure they'd make even that backdrop a snooze fest if the writing in this is any indication lol.
Or based during the Colony or shortly after.
Honestly in Skyrim you didn't even really need horses. Because points of interest were dotted damn near everywhere. If starfield's points of interests weren't so far the traversal wouldn't be that much of an issue.
@@twilightcoda8572 exactly!!!
Bethesda seem to have forgotten what makes exploration fun
yeah, fallout 4, skyrim and even 76 fast travel is more when I NEED to go somewhere, or already explored the ways between.
@@wolfwing1 exactly!!! By the way I completely forgot about fallout 4. Love that game too. Points of interest every freakin where
I played this game the week it came out, I completely lost interest because I found it boring. This game made me go back to Skyrim which I’m currently playing, it never gets old especially with mods.
Everything about this game seems like the main design guideline wasn't "how will this feature serve the story, the gameplay, the immersion and what will be better for the player?" but "how good will this look in an E3 presentation and on the game's store page?".
There's an abundance of features that scream "PUT HERE FOR MARKETING PURPOSES" right off the bat, while others seem to have been 100% ignored by everyone. Great UI design doesn't sell a product, but "having 12831912312 explorable planets" does. Whatever does sound good on a stage in front of a great big screen makes it into the game, no questions asked, no thought put behind it. Starfield is the embodiment of "what if we collected a bouqet of marketing flavor texts and made that into an .exe file"
The "exploration" is a joke...Todd really thought everyone would be psyched to walk 2 miles every time they land to explore the same minining outpost or whatever
It feels like the HR lady was the game designer.
Its especially obvious in the "everyone be nice" and "breasts are not allowed, everyone should be flat so i don't feel bad"
What was the point of this game? Obsidian made a much more fun and engaging Bethesda style space game in The Outer Worlds. Todd needs to pull his head out his posterior, or better yet resign as the undisputed dictator of bland unimaginative games.
100% agree about OW being better
Outer worlds was not better in any way? What? The game was alright but got played out in like 30 hours. It was extremely shallow.
3/10 absolutely criminal to ruin such potential..
Just expect every AAA game release to be shit..
Definitely should have just blamed covid and spent another year in full development.
@@arkeshn729 More like 3-4 Years considering how long it took them to install a simple FOV slider, which should actually be standard.
@@NobodyIsPerfectLP it's amazes me that the Mass Effect Trilogy was developed in the same amount of time as Starfield. This is the best Bethesda could do with 7 plus years with Fallout 4 as a base? At best they'll put another year, year and a half into patches and dlc. Starfield's version of the creation club and the "mod" team will continue their work from there.
A $70 dumpster fire of loading screens. In space.
85$ for the base game for me in my region :/
I had enough patience to play it for about 3 hours and literally thought i got scammed

I've been playing Bethesda games since Morrowind. Normally, each game has a little something new, each iterates on the other. Starfield is the first game that I genuinely feel they went BACKWARDS. I really hope they can redeem the game with DLC, but at this point I'm not on the hopium drip. I've bought nearly every pre-order the main studio has done. Starfield was my last. I may even wait and do like one of my oldest friends says "wait a couple years until it's done, and the price drops.. then I'll buy it".
I dont know if bethesda or modders can fix it. There are some fundamental flaws that are far worse than previous titles
starfield is emphatically not the first time they’ve gone backwards though
I would not say they always improved. They been actively dumbing down the RPG part of their game along with the variety of char builds.
Every game since Morrowind they have been removing more features than adding
Oblivion was already a step bacjwards dude
"Star-Failed" is better though....
The moment i found out they use the creation engine again, it was clear it will end like this. My hype was dead immediately
I admire your wisdom.
The thing is, old engines can do great things if they are used or tweaked correctly... Skyrim's modders made it clear several decades ago that it is entirely possible to make good things happen with the engine. I just don't think Bethesda has realised it yet.
Good news!
Theyre using it for both TES VI and FO5!! Im sure their NPCs wont be standing dead still looking directly at you and swaying from side to side as they "interact" with you in the typical Bethesda way then also...
Im *sure* Bethesda wont have every quest be a glorified fetch quest, no, now why would they?
Starfield is Fallout 4's most ambitious mod.
3:32 its not that Bethesda hasnt figured out how to make land vehicles, they deliberately didnt add them the same reason they didnt add minimaps or maps in general, to create the illusion of a big open world. If you had a vehicle you'd hit an invisible wall in 15 seconds, and if you had a map you'd see how tiny each instance is. Now that everyone knows how small the playable areas are they'll probably sell vehicles as DLCs, or add them for free and say "look, we listen to our fanbase, we are best!"
Edit : Yep spoke too soon, you already mentioned it later on lol
Lol they're not really small. You can go like 5000m in each direction. You almost have to purposely be looking for the edge of the map to actually find it.
Actual space is full of mostly nothing. Todd Howard wanted Starfield to be as much like actual space as possible. He succeeded.
And yet Humans want to Explore space.
@@CrniWukspace as you know it is a lie. We’ve all been lied to.
The destinations in Starfield are less interesting than the space you travel through though.
Space in Starfield *could* be full of stuff if Bethesda had any imagination -- wrecked ships, asteroids being mined, orbital science stations, whatever. But of course that would require you to be able to actually travel through space in your ship, rather than your ship being nothing but a way to trigger loading screens.
I think if you stick solely to the main story and side quests and don’t do too much exploring, you’ll have fun. The problem is, they took away that beautiful feeling of Bethesda exploration. Instead of waltzing into a random dungeon and kicking off a quest line you didn’t know existed, you walk into the same “abandoned science lab” that you’ve already smashed through 5 different times on different planets. That sense of a unique world which rewards your curiosity is gone.
I didn’t buy the game to do that. I was told I could go where I want and do what I want.
it really was hyped up to be something it could never live up to. As long as Bethesda keeps using the creation engine, this is what we can continue to expect from them.
Great video review!!
I decided to uninstall Snorefield and start new playthroughs of Skyrim, Fallout 4 and RDR2. Now I’m back to my happy place and no longer trying to understand why I hate Snorefield so much. Clearly I’m not alone.
I sont understand how people can keep playing skyrim; that game was just as boring after 1 playthrough and has all of the same problems
The obvious laziness in game design and execution contrasted with people giving it high scores and praise quite something to witness.
I give it a 9/10 .. it"s not perfect but it is fun.
@@glennshresavor the mediocrity as long as you want
I love Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim and New Vegas. Having watched game play of this landfill inferno, Elder Scrolls 6 is gonna make Skyrim look like Baldur's Gate 3 in terms of RPG elements. How much more can be stripped away. This game doesnt even have skill levels like in all past Fallout and Elder Scrolls games (before Shitout 76).
Elderscrolls Mages Quest Quantity till archmage
Morrowind : 50
Oblivion : 30
Skyrim : 8
ES6 : hello arch mage
and sadly, the mages guild questline in Skyrim is longer and better written then any of the questlines in starfield.
Oh dude!¡!!!!! Hour 41 is where it gets amazing!!!

15:52 FINALLY someone mentions the gun accuracy. the game will calculate point blank hits with a freaking SHOTUN where the enemies body is taking up 90% of my screen as misses and I thought I was going insane.
They seem stuck on "the astronauts on the moon were not bored" like bra I'm in my room bud come on. They got an echo chamber they need someone that can tell Tod his idea is boring. Don't bother with any combat perks put your points elsewhere. It's on rails they are telling you a story how dare you shoot one our npcs we just make them invincible great. Thanks for the video duder.
Yeah that statement from Todd was a huge red flag.
Todd is great at selling the idea of a good video game.
The mindset of "Modders will fix the game" is so trash bc not every platform has equal access to mods. We should all be getting a good game off the bat
honestly one of the better reviews and specifically one that I can relate to a lot. although I haven't played this game myself, after watching/hearing numerous reviews and playthroughs, I feel like this game is severely neutered in terms of the typical bethesda experience.
“Creatively bankrupt”.. perfect.
My hypothesis is they withheld vehicles so they can offer them as a micro transaction at a later time.
It was in motion prior, but I feel ever since Microsoft (publicly traded) purchased Bethesda, it’s ALL about P&L. Recycled mechanics, recycled animations, zero investment in new features.
We are witnessing the death of a studio. Sadly, it’s one of the most beloved studio’s that ever existed. I believe they are even leveraging this love from the players to sell us trash and think we’ll just keep buying. I said after 76, I would give them one more shot. I will never give Bethesda another dollar after Starfield.
I may not be a game dev but I certainly know when I’m not having fun playing a game.
I am pretty sure most of those 10/10 review where bought out by Microsoft. Really the only reviews I trust are steams and fellow gamer content creators, who didn't get their copies from Microsoft or BGS. Even if you look at the game in the most objective way, just pointing out technical flaws, it can't possibly be rated as a perfect game. I have legitimately asked people that love the game, what they love about it, what makes it stand out compared to other games. The responses I usually get are just insults, or calling me Sony fan boy; but I only play on PC. Starfield has been the most strange game, not in the sense that the game it's is strange but the community surrounding it. The whole protecting a corporation that just wants your money is just so strange. I don't understand the point of brand loyalty, just get whatever the best product is at the time, not based on the brand behind it. So best thing about starfield are the amount of videos that came out because of it. From a lot of smaller creators too, that had the most level headed opinions on the title.
A lot of people defending it were Xbox fanboys that have to defend everything Xbox related. Console tribalism is weird.
Most of the quest in starfield would be better done through email. Why I gotta walk all over creation to tell some NPC what another NPC said?
Imagine trying to make starfield semi realism and failing at it while kingdom come deliverance does a better job being semi realism
Its all about the creativity and vision. Something Bethesda has none.
This description sounds like if the original mass effect was relelased in its original state... now, only there's no maco, no awesome story, no deep companion arcs, no unique aliens. I'm glad this thing is on gamepass, so I dont have to pay to play this game.
It takes several minutes to get to each PoI in order to greatly inflate the amount of time people are in the game. Which is great for those all important "Gamepass engagement" stats.
I think one of the solutions to the bad skill system is if you got more then 1 skill a level, I added a mod that gave 4 skills a level, SO much better, suddenly you can put in some of those neat but wouldn't put points into skills because so many others. Though definetly highlighted the issues with the challenges, grav jump 100 times....repetative boring, and you still barely fight anything. Moding...wait I have to make 100 useless mods just to get the better ones?
It You have to download mods to use other mods trust me, they are everything but useless
@@jrrvaskrmilesworth8965 no no I mean gun/armour mods, where to be able to use the higher level mods, you must make like 100 gun mods your just going to sell, in order to use the ones you really want to use. I would never make them in the normal course of the game, and do nothing but make me waste time/resources to get what I want.
@@wolfwing1 Ah, the in-game mod skill... I've heard about that. Sounds worse than MMO crafting...
Someone said this game was designed to waste your time and it is absolutely right, hence the 100 hr for some. Between the dumb quests (go to this planet and bring me a drink), dumb temple minigame, loading screens, no land vehicles and constant encumbered this game is mediocre at best (6/10) for me.
so you think most of mthe quests are "go to this planet and get me a drink"?...dude you haven't played much of the game obviously cause it has some very good questlines..the hopetown questlines, freestar collective, vanguard, ryu industries, are all pretty damn good, as well as lots of the sudequests so you're a total blowhard..its a fun game but its not for everyone...go play super mario.
"A game made for everyone is a game for no one" This is the best way to describe Starfield and the current AAA gaming industry as a whole.
They where so lazy you cant even swim under water, only on top. LOL 🤣
You say 'downfall' like they haven't been blueballing us since Fallout 4.
Bethesda's engine cannot handle vehicles because the engine cannot load the terrain fast enough.
Swords and stuff should be great and almost midevil in that everyone would have one to go with their gun.
Why would people use Swords in the future?
One. Your fire a gun in zero G its pushes you back.
Two. Bullets will do one of two things, go through the bulkhead and you lose all your air and you die.
Or. The Bullets hit the bulkhead, bounce off and then it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Only your the fish and your ships the barrel.
In short, Swords will come back in the situation where humans are in space. Maybe not forever but they will make a come back.
I'll give it to you, the loading screen joke made me chuckle. It reminded me of one particular Fallout 76 review where the video suddenly crashed and the PS4 error screen appeared, it was really funny.
You really struck the nail on the head with the homogeneity of the monoculture when it comes to races and ethnicities.
It's particularly troublesome when a Black or Asian person is simply a Europeon knight as if it was modern society like for example in Orcs Must Die 3, there's a black playable character which is no problem since there's rifts and probably can connect to all around the globe but he wears a Europeon garb instead of like a Africanized version of the Order's uniform.
It's such a out of left-field praise but the live-action Avatar movie did well by having each faction being a distinct culture.
Remnant also managed to make procedural generation work very well.
Overhyped vs what we desired
Regarding vehicles in Starfield and horses in Skyrim: did you know that horses only go like 15% faster than the character? This includes sprinting too. The visual effect applied makes it seem like you're going faster, while this isn't actually true.
Speaking of ocean, why does the water in this game look worst than that in Skyrim?
I guess "16 times the detail" didn't include the water 🤣
It is NOT what he said it was.
I hate it but i still remember all the good Bethesda game moments ive had in the past and i just miss that feeling.
you need to grow up someday and your games need to grow up with you
This game shouldve been 1 solar system
This game should've been $1
I had just posted on another video about falling asleep while exploring a planet. Never before has that happened in a game. From boring to snoring...Great game, Ha!
Based on what Emil said about his writing and Todd basically causal fans and making their games less and less specialized like morrowind but more casual for wider audience is major reason for their downgrades. They did this on purpose to appeal to more people but ended up appealing to almost no one as it is now shit.
As soon as I stopped smoking weed I really couldn’t stand starfield I would play for 15 minutes and just get extremely bored
"creatively bankrupt" love it
People are being way too nice when they say, "if youre enjoying the game then im happy for you."
Fuck that. The idea that people might be enjoying such a bland, soul-less game, a glorified cash grab, makes me really upset. Publishers will take notice and say,
"Starfield was a lazy game that sold like hotcakes only because of hype. We can do that and also make millions of dollars."
At some point we have to actually start calling people out and pressing them on what they actually enjoy from the game. And then point them to games that do those things better. Its very likely that most people enjoying starfield dont play a lot of games outside of extremely main stream releases. Otherwise, good games will continue to become a niche market while shitty cashgrabs continue to take over the industry.
He's not being nice. He's being sly.
"I'm happy for your marriage, but you see you married xyz"
11:08 - 15:26 MAN THE WORLDBUILDING IS THE REASON WHY I LOVED BETHESDA GAMES.
Babybolm falls, Forsopken, Final Fantasy XVI, Spiderbugs 2, the Play downfall
This worries me. I haven't played the game myself yet, so I can't really fully judge, but this review sounds like it's exactly what I feared it might be. And it is making me even more worried for "The Elder Scrolls 6."
For well over a decade now Bethesda has been following the same trend. Every game strips rpg elements, relies more on randomly generated things to create quantity and tries to be as inoffensive as possible for mass market appeal.
We went from Morrowind's complex politics and extremely deep skills, to Oblivion's more black and white conflict with still plenty of rpg elements but stripped down a little compared to Morrowind's. Then Skyrim stripped out even more rpg elements like attributes and classes, got rid of even more skills, and added more stuff like radiant quests. Fallout 4 did the same, especially stripping down the rpg elements. And now it seems Starfield is continuing that trend, leaving more to procedural generation, stripping most rpg elements and making the whole thing as inoffensive as possible by removing things like extreme gore.
It seems like Bethesda is, more and more, just trying to make "the game that everyone can like." But the problem is that that's impossible. When you try to make a game that is so generic that everyone likes it, it doesn't make it a universally praised game. It makes it a generic game.
I really hope this trend doesn't continue for TES6. I want them to reverse course and put back in MORE rpg elements, MORE hand-crafted quests, MORE morally complex storytelling, etc. Not less than Skyrim.
If you're the kind of person who didn't play StarFlight (1991) or sundog (1984) or watch space movies like Alien (1979). Then such a game like starfield will not be your thing. You'll just want to skip all the dialogue and think the game is witch craft that needs to be dunked like the woman you don't like.
Love your vibe, keep the great vids coming!
Where are the amazing stories and lore from the quests???? Like when you just stumble upon Dunwich Borers in FO or the Dead elf ghost that leads to the Aetherial Forge in Skyrim
I’ve been playing their games a lot longer back to Daggerfall and even Arena. I’m officially done. They are not the same company with the same magic anymore. So many better developers now, I don’t have to settle for this type of game design.
This critique of Starfield was perfect. You literally hit every single issue that I had with this game.
Good point, "America in space", probably the M rating is just because of the swearing haha
I was hesitant about starfield after 1. Fallout 76 and 2. I learned that it was going to be procedurally generated. Bethesda is pretty known for their lackluster storytelling and world building especially after morrowind but every single game including 76 had a big contoured world that you could explore and that alone was enough to add countless hours of playtime but starfield suffers from the lackluster storytelling and world building AND a shallow boring game world, not only that but TES and Fallout are propped up by better games years gone by but starfield has to stand on it’s own two legs and it just can’t. There are countless criticisms of this game, it’s just sad really
EMPTY-FIELD ( aka Starfield ) is like a PIZZA without cheese and pepperoni ..... is like walking in the Sahara Desert for days and weeks till you PROBABLY find an oasis and after more weeks, you finally see in the horizon, the Pyramids. What a waste of time to play this game !!
The fact you didn't even have the full planet to explore ruined it for me
Dropped Starfield after 30hrs meandering boredom. Went back to Skyrim since I never played any of the Anniversary edition content. Density of quest and locations is Bethesda's bread and butter. I don't know why they avoided that.
4:20 if you played No Man's Sky you know why theres no vehicles in Starfield... In NMS you can, if you want, literally do laps across a planet, in Starfield you are limited by tiles, in this regard Todd is right, it does change the dynamics of the gameplay, unfortunately for Todd this also shows how outdate is game is.
Procedural generation is still like 5 years away.
Bethesda is 15 years away.
At 0.9.20 What you said reminds me of something that happend to my char in Fallout 4. This was before i had mods on my game, Back in 2016/17 area. Its Not exactly the same as what's in this video at the time stated, but similar.
I was attacking this Ghoul Raider camp, armed with a Mini-gun with the perk of "Shoots add Projectile" making it pretty powerful. When suddenly this Mid level Raider comes up to me and attacks with a pool cue, wearing leather scrap, mixed with some iron shit. I was in my T51 mark d power armor with my mini-gun. At level 35.
He attacks i was at point blank range, i let rip, couldn't miss TBH. By the time i used all 500 rounds, his health was only at half way point.....WTF!! i was shouting, F**king Bullshit. I put away the gun an pulled out my Mag 44, and blew the rest of his health away with only two rounds. Meanwhile my health was down to about 35 %.
He did this to my Char with a wooden stick while my char was wearing steel power armor, and i could only knock his health down to half with 500 5mm rounds at point blank range.
I ejected the game and almost threw it in the bin, i was raging, AND i was playing on Normal Difficulty.
More Bethesda Bullshit of NOT doing any research about anything they make. Typical bullshit crap. Never buying anything from them again.
And as for story not being important, just goes to show how stupid the guy who writes the scripts and stories for any game bethesda makes.
No other wonder Baldur's Gate 3 trampled all over Starfield LOL.
The modders will save the day, which is kinda scummy on bethesda's part
I've always been extremely appreciative of modders for Bethesda games, imagining the work that goes in....but, I think that since that work involves passion (which no one will have for this snoozefest in 6mo), it'll never have the breadth of mods that Skyrim or FO4 have, much less ones that actually fix all the MAJOR shortcomings of this game.
I reserve the right to edit once we reach critical mass if hand-made planets and full on questlines. Guess there's plenty of space for that
To be honest it's the Modders that's keeping Bethesda alive
Correct and that is why I have been asked to all fan boys : why don't you play this game without any mod if you love it so much ? @@detailed_data4PSN

We're all very disappointed with Starfield. But think about all the devs that are lower on the totem pole, who are legit gamers, and all the cool things they wanted to put in the game. There were likely tons of them with great ideas or concerns that were shot down by shitty management. That's gotta be heartbreaking.
I was so passed when. I found the robot horse in fallout and you couldn't build an adult sized robot like hoe has Noone ever done it ?
10 bucks says they didn't make land vehicles because they knew you would reach invisible borders. Slow walking insures the little square can load as you walk on it. Lazy.
Starfield makes Fallout 76 look fun to play. THINK, TODD ! THINK !
good review. 5/5 review. There is just SO SO SO much in starfield that takes ten steps backwards just so they could implement their shitty procedural generation. I know I won't be buying elder scrolls 6 until reviews come out.
To think I almost bought an XBOX just to play it - and then the reviews started coming in. Regards, anonymous PS5 owner....
This game is so broken it’s just wrong. I’ve got an issue where I have 2 missions that I can’t complete due to glitches. Bethesda does very little to fix these issues other than tell you to load an earlier save (so lose all your progress) or verify your files which may lose your entire game files. Just useless.
The first time I played starfield I played like 3hrs and I started to get sleepy and my eyes started to close, I thought I was tired and went to sleep, next day I tried again and after 3-4hrs the same I got sleepy af, again I thought I was tired and went to sleep, the next day I played cyberpunk because the 2.1 update dropped, I played 11 hrs straight without blinking, drinking or eating, I just stopped playing because I knew I had to sleep, but I wanted to keep playing, starfield is a f disappointment to say the least
They should’ve finished up Elderscrolls VI rather than spend time on this….
Bethesda just phones it in nowadays ... modding is alrdy dieing down on this piss poor game, modders are going back to games most people actually enjoy lol
This game is the epitome of bigger is not always better.
All they needed to do was make a dozen or so planets as dense and well built as Boston is in FO4, or Skyrim.
There was no need or reason to make so many boring, desolate planets with nothing to do but scan resources and shoot bugs.
Take earth for example, why the hell didn't they build an abandoned Boston? The Capital Wasteland? Instead we get a couple landmarks.
That's it. A sorely missed opportunity.
I was looking forward to this game for so long, only to be massively and profoundly disappointed. It is so boring.
By appealing to the casual audience who don't really play video games they alienated their biggest fan base.
When I play something like Witcher 3, an almost 10 year old game, I can't help but notice how much better that world is. Barely any loading screens. Something interesting to do every couple minutes. Exceedingly well written characters, story, locations, and general creative design.
Starfield lacks all of this. This is mind boggling. If I didn't already know this was the same people who gave us Skyrim, I wouldn't believe it. It's so empty compared to everything else.
The only way to save this bland mess is to remove 99% of the useless planets and replace them with a handful of hand created ones.
If this is their way of making up for the laughing stock that is FO76, well, it failed. Spectacularly.
It's sad to see a once mighty force in the game industry reduced to this.
It's the only BGS developed game I have less than 200-300 hours in.
I am extremely nervous about Elder Scrolls 6, and sincerely hope Microsoft takes the entire fallout franchise away from them.

you touch a rock and just because of that they gift you with a starship. (idea ripped off from Mass Effect, but in Starfield is executed ten times lamer than in ME)
Later you got magic powers but in space. (like in Skyrim)
Finally you got a lame pseudo philosophical ending.(like in no man's sky).

It's great!

They'll probably have a vehicle in the studio and they're just waiting for demand to peak, so that when they release it the mugs who bought the game will say, "Oh thank you Bethesda you're the best!" Problem... reaction... solution.
id say... Bethesda should link up with another studio under MS to make TES6. Beth is GREAT at building environments and detail. but they are shit at story telling, immersion, and gameplay. hell, now-a-days, theyre trash at RPG as well.

This game sucks so bad, honestly if Bethesda was to have just included seamless planet traversal, I think me personally I would've been able to excuse everything else, and play the game. This is because at least I'm able to do a No Man's Sky with guns, and still adequately explore space in seamless transition, Starfield doesn't even have that. That makes everything else just seem even worse, adding boring fuel to the fire. It was an immediate deal breaker for me as soon as I found that out.
So you want a microsoft flight simulator 2020 2 petabyte planet with seamless planet traversal and super high definition assets and covered in 1 million dungeons. Nice pc from 2060 you got there.
I've always been a fan of BGS, I didn't care much about the criticisms levied at their game, I enjoyed them. They scratched an itch. After fallout 76 which i did not bother with, I was only a little sceptical, after all everyone was trying lame mmos. But this game...it destroyed my love. The more I think about this game, the more disgusted I am. Then told to get a better PC? I have a 4090 etc etc all the stuff. Spoiler, a powerful PC doesn't make up for shitty coding and design. I fear for ESVI
Where to even begin with this game. There are too many problems to list but some of the bigger ones that I just couldn't get around are the story which fails to provide you with the who, when , what, where, and why. You never learn who made the artifacts. Not to mention the entirety of constellation has virtually no clue as to why they are even looking for them. Krix's legacy is another example of the game pigeonholing you into making 1 of 2 choices when there's an obvious 3rd that they never provide you with. The fact that in that quest neither the pirates nor the uc have any claim to the credits on the legacy yet the game pegs the pirates as the bad guys because reasons. In all actuality the credits aboard the legacy belong to the freestanding collective who the uc takes upon themselves to reward you with their money after you recover it. There was clearly room for a 3rd option there. I quit playing when i decided to try an evil playthrough. Where I thought I might be able to squeeze some fun out of the game by exploring that avenue. But after doing krixs legacy and being welcomed by the uc to help resolve the terror morph issue; and only having a couple lines of dialogue where the oblivious president briefly mentions how I helped the pirates, I quit. Bad game bad writing shit world building. All the strengths that saved Bethesda and made their games tolerable in the past seem to be the biggest weaknesses in this one.
The story is probably the worst writing I've ever experienced out of all the Bethesda titles.
The game is just ok. It’s not good, it’s not bad, it’s just boring. The only thing I liked was the Terrormorphs but that’s a creature. The engine and their ways hold them back from reaching Morrowind or even Skyrim heights again. Starting to feel like they were flukes tbh.
Elder Scrolls VI: The Load Screen
Fifteen n years and they still have a UI that needs to be modded....
A UI that tells keyboard players to 'press any button '
A UI that makes you position tiny objects with your left hand while not using the mouse at all....
Let that last part sink in..
The outpost builder is So absurdly bad it's a ln insult. Just try to delete wires .. a mouse would be a click . No problem..
Nope, you have to use the worst UI ever created.. it could take an hour just to grab one wire!!
remarkable how few pro critics had the courage or insight to call this New Bethesda Thing what it is, just another New Bethesda Thing.
just like all the other Bethesda Things.
Creation Engine never changes
