No spoiler alert, just straight into the ending of the final battle 😂 Classy
😅
You’re absolutely correct; BOTW is the game that got me back into gaming and TOTK has reignited that same flame.
An amazing game and amazing franchise.
Same to me xD i lost all will to game until totk came and oh boy had i not enough sleep xD thankfully it came or else I would have lost the interest in gaming completely
@@Slipte here’s a tip, try indie games
Hollow knight is a good game to start with
@@HyperNova808 i always try them
For anyone who hasn’t done it yet, you can use the whistle that normally calls your horse to summon your allies to your position. Very useful when the avatar versions seem to be miles away. Oh yeah and don’t forget to summon them again if you dismissed their avatar and forgot to summon them
Thanks 👍
Played 200 hours of TOTK and didn’t know this lol
This game is SO good, but why? Here's my reason. When you're hungry for exploration, you go explore. If you're hungry for story, you do some story bits. If you're hungry for fights, you go fight some monsters, if you're hungry for some experimentation, you build something, if you're hungry for puzzles, you go find some shrines. For me it feels like i can do WHATEVER i want and NOTHING tells me what i NEED to do. Nobody forces me to do anything. I admit, the first... 10 or so hours, the game didn't really click with me. I was afraid and astonished, because i LOVED BotW, so what was wrong here? Turns out, i just had to get used to the controls. The controls really took me out of the experience sometimes at the beginning and i found myself playing the game not even 2 hours a day at first. Also i was KINDA overwhelmed by the size of the world. Everything is fine now however, i'm addicted.
I was actually kinda overwhelmed by how much there was to do in this world. There’s just SO much content in this game that I feel like even after 100 hours I wouldn't be close to done.
@@Atmux Yeah this game is absolutely packed. I have about 125 hours in so far, really been taking my sweet time tbh. So far done 2 dungeons, 80 shrines and about 250 koroks. Have only really explored the depths for small increments of time to mine zonaite and stuff. Done a few sidequests and thats about it. Most of my time has been spent exploring. I still have a whole lot of goals to achieve in this game sometimes it is indeed a bit overwhelming especially at the start. Honestly see myself getting around 300+ hours with the goals i set before i finally tackle the story to end my adventure. Truly a phenomenal experience! The zelda team deserves truly deserves everything for this amazing experience!
@@jynxnashix4259 not to mention over 150 caves
And the best part is that no matter what you're doing it feels like a form of progression.
@@A.Useless.Goddess pretty sure there’s only about 52 caves there’s even a quest tied to that specific knowledge
Opening the video with the end of the game really felt great to someone who is halfway done with it :(
😟
dw my man there’s so much left in the ending that you’re yet to see
The enemies don't get stronger as you progress the story, there is a hidden exp system when you kill enemies that cause stronger versions of enemies to spawn and better weapons to spawn.
Ahhh, no wonder they got stronger so fast.
I think it’s mildly funny that in all the footage of you fighting the flux constructs you didn’t know you’re “supposed to” use ultrahand to rip its core out but the game give you so much freedom the way you did it also just, works
What!?!?!? I have to try this tonight
Wait WHAT?! holy crap that's amazing.
Wait what?
I have seen hundreds of clips of people doing the exact same shrines in totally different ways than I did. There’s always a sudden hint for the intended way, but there’s no “correct solution”, because I don’t even think Nintendo thought of most of them beforehand. They have created open ended gameplay and almost never force the player to take one path. I absolutely love that.
When it flies into the sky, you can use a bomb arrow to break its formation, causing it to fall down. Flux construct 1’s fly close enough to the ground that you can ascend through it. Or you can recall the blocks it throws at you to get all the way up and attach the core. This is all just from one phase, the rest of the fight is filled with the same amount of depth.
17:10 “Hasn’t this been the story for every LoZ game?”
In very, very broad strokes, yes. The core of the story is Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf endlessly reincarnating to fight over and over again because an ancient predecessor to Ganondorf cursed the three of them to repeat their battles for eternity until he can finally manage to succeed. Each installment of the series is the next trio in line to stage their battle, with time travel shenanigans thrown in the mix for good measure.
Ah so that's why they're in every game.
@@Atmux Skyward Sword is the one that covers this establishing portion of the story if you wanted to try that one out. From there, it’s fairly open ended which ways to go because the timeline splits into three distinct versions of the world based on the outcome of the final battle in Ocarina of Time. I’d recommend those two before any of the others if you wanted to go back and see the history.
In all actuality, the champion’s abilities in BOTW were placed in much more specific activation requirements. They made it so you couldn’t activate them by accident. I don’t know why they made the champion’s abilities all on the A button here! I’ve had Tulin knock off some really good loot before just because the pickup button and the Champion button are the same, and all it takes to cause an accident is for him to be next to you.
Yep really annoying when they're all standing on top of the loot.
Combat has such a high skill ceiling. I mean have you SEEN some of the lore accurate link videos. It’s wild.
Yea its crazy good
TotK is proof (to me at least) that modern game devs need to learn optimization. The game runs so consistently at 30 FPS, 1080P max, and looks so GOOD. I’m surprised I can dive from the sky to a dragon fight on the depths, and the game doesn’t CHUG.
I know people are going to say “Oh but it’s 30 FPS 1080p”, but this is all on a six year old console, made to be played handheld. Imagine what normal computers and consoles could make TotK look like. I really hope TotK is a wake up call to the industry to actually take the time to optimize games before release, because holy hell TotK feels like a miracle the way it runs.
Honestly, I was surprised my switch didn't explode running this game because there was just so much happening on screen 🤣
You are correct that most Zelda games have a really really closely related story, sometimes almost identical in premise. This is due to the story of Skyward sword. I won't spoiler it here but if you play through the game (or watch a lore video that compresses the story into a short video) you know why. I can only recommend looking into the lore, I love skyward sword but I also know that many people are not fond of the game itself ^^
Edit: Also, skyward sword spoils nothing if you consider looking into other older titles, although no game really spoilers the others but some lore is only understood when knowing what came first and what happened before. Skyward sword is lore-wise the very first game that sets up what's to come in any other zelda game.
Ahh I see, I'll check it out!
If you want a Zelda with a stronger narrative you can look into playing Twilight Princess. If you take each individual game in a vacuum it can feel like a repetitive general outline, but Skyward Sword contextualizes just WHY the series is so cyclical. Both are the best narratives in the series. Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask get a special shout out but don’t feel obligated to play those until you’re ready. This series reinvents itself periodically, and while I LOVE these new games to death, I still wanna call attention to what was accomplished before. The more games you play in this series the more you’ll come to appreciate the world building too. Don’t jump back to Breath of the Wild right away doe. Even though I still recommend it. Give the Open Air games a break from each other. Don’t burn yourself out indulging on a good thing. I love this franchise more than any other and I love seeing new people fall in love with it too :)
Dang the lore is that deep huh...? Well, I've already got my foot in the door, might as well 🤷♂️
In my honest and humble opinion may I suggest Wind Waker, they experiment with many things in it that are used in BOTW/TOTK
Agreed! I really want to see you play the other series. Even though I think everyone should play Ocarina of Time at one point just to understand the start of the 3d series and the magic. Twilight Princess is amazing as well. I always tell people who have only played BOTW to start with Wind Waker and then move onto either Ocarina or Twilight. Skyward sword isn't bad but personally at the bottom of my list and almost the opposite of BOTW and TOTK but it really gives you good lore for the series. Majora's Mask is amazing and the atmosphere is insane, not sure how it would be for someone who never played the series, probably insane.
@@youhaveayds8975 Wind waker Aka, the empty ocean game with long spans of nothing as you glide slowly over an empty expanse.
11:06, I 100% just picked up one of the random cars running across the shrine repeatedly. I love that the rewards you for awareness, among a million other things. I'm always looking for a smarter-not-harder solution, it's just hilarious to find a stupidly simple solution, and sheer creativity lets you cheese the hell out of this game sometimes. And that's just the macro, you can go bat-shit crazy with everything else too. I want to learn how to style on a Lynel and not even let enemies move while fighting. Link is 100% legendary and lethal in this game, nothing can touch him, and I want to feel the full extent of that ability. You have to be just as fast, ingenious, and to hit that full potential. It's like Ocarina of Time all over again, you just felt STRONG in that game, and I absolutely love that feeling.
(Edited, timestamp was off)
Love the amount of skill expression in this game. It's actually crazy how good you can be in this game.
It has been established through other titles that Ganon has them tidal locked into a "reincarnation" loop. All three (Zelda, Link and Ganon) are destined to to reincarnate and do the same song and dance every time.
18:36 Replacing the navigation button on the abilities wheel with access to the Sage abilities would be so much better than running up to one of them mid fight to press A.
10:50 I agree that there should be more puzzles in The Depths. My idea would be to have overworld puzzles similar to Shrine Quests that unlock Zonaite and Crystal Refineries.
I would like to add that there should’ve been more interesting discoveries besides mines and colosseums. There could’ve been ruins of ancient Zonai cities, ancient Sheikah tech labs, the remains of Sheikah towers and The Divine Beasts, more hazardous environments similar to Death Mountain, and another major Yiga Clan hideout similar to the one in the Gerudo region.
These would have been so awesome to see in the game.
“I won’t spoil much story”
First clip huge and best end game spoiler
I wouldn't say it’s a huge or the best spoiler.
You aren't wrong the enimes do get stronger. Link has a hidden exp meter that the more enemies you kill the stronger they get.
I see, thanks
@@Atmux Your welcome.
Truly like the best game since I was a kid
Totk came out when you were a kid?! 😂
The lag is a memory clocking issue which is the switch's biggest bottleneck
The switch is really starting to show its age.
I stg the second Links little feet hit the ground i felt like enemies were bullying me! I still feel that way the way certain enemies still empty my hearts in one swing, even though my armour and weapons are stronger. Its insane! Nintendo really said get good then get better.
The yiga clan story arc is criminally underrated
And all of it is missable which is crazy.
Biggest mistake was not having oiled up Purah recoil but hey there can always be DLC
💀
The amount of things to do in this game is insane! Ive been watching a youtubers playthrough while i play, dudes on his last 8 hour video, about to head into the castle, and JUST did the tutorial for the camera feature 😂😂😂 The simple fact that ive played so much and watched so much of his gameplay, but theres so many things that ive explored that he hasnt and vise versa. You could go to an area looking for something someone found and end up finding something completely different! They really werent playing around with this one. I think every video ive watched made by someone whos played the game has included them calling the game a masterpiece at various complition levels, and im not even mad at it. It was the feeling i got while watching the title scene that made me HAVE to play this game. Heck, this game made me more invested in the Zelda lore amd consider myself an actual fan.
Yeah it's crazy how much content there is in this game and how you're able to do it at any time you want. This is probably one of the best open worlds i've seen in a while.
fun fact the Lightroots are in the same spot as the shine on the surface so I spent a lot of time there to find all 120 shines on the surface and but we have to find the other 32 shines in the sky on your own.
Awesome 👌
21:45 wee all know nothing can top this game
It really sucks that attaching Zonai devices to shields so quickly damages the shield when used. That doesn’t even make sense-no durability should be used unless your shield surfing or blocking attacks with it.
The basic outline for the story is typically the same in each Zelda game, yes. Some exceptions are Zelda II: links adventure, links awakening, and majoras mask. Wind waker has a different reason for propelling link into his adventure though, so you don’t start that with any intent to save Zelda.
Although the outline is typically the same, the way the story plays out can differ quite a bit. Zelda’s character in particular can change quite a bit game-to-game. She is very nerdy in botw and Totk, in windwaker she’s more of a tomboy, in OoT you see her as an optimistic child at first and later as a serious and wise adult, in twilight Princess I’m pretty sure she’s a Queen when you meet her, and she’s bubbly and a bit flirty in skyward sword. Link character changes from game to game as well, but these changes are more subtle as they are seen through his expressions and through his connections and interactions with the people around him.
I will say that I think Totk story is superbly told, and Zelda’s character in particular is more engaging than ever before. I have never felt more motivated to save Zelda in a Zelda game, and I have never felt as satisfied with saving Zelda either. With ganondorf, I never found him all that scary until this game. I found myself thinking “am I ready for the final boss? He did completely take all my hearts and stamina at the beginning… when he was basically just a skeleton.” What’s more, is that the game really makes you want to destroy ganondorf after everything he’s done. Being able to give the player that kind of drive and connection to the characters speaks to how well the story is told, imo.
I see, there are some interesting spins to these characters throughout every iteration!
literally the only bad thing about this game is the console its on. i love the switch to death but totk is just enormous. its a technical marvel
A tip for your NPC allies, the Sages/their spectres that are with you. You need to grab an ability from them and they're at a distance? Whistle like you do for your horse, and all of them you have with you will run over to you :D
Didn't know that I thought it was only for horses!
Enjoyed the video bro keep up the great content
❤
I thought Zelda‘s Zonai attire was more on the Aztec design.
After all in TotK the Zonai design seems heavily inspired by Aztec and their writing by ancient Chinese.
Huh, that would make sense 🤔
What an amazing Zelda game to start out with! It really helps your review not come across as "blind Zelda fanboyism" like I think a lot of this game's haters claim we fans do!
If you ever try another Zelda game besides Breath of the Wild, they are quite different from this style, but I would probably A Link Between Worlds is the closest to the open world freedom Tears of the Kingdom has to offer. If you want a more linear, tightly-crafted Zelda game, then I'd highly recommend Twilight Princess!
I'll check them out thanks!
"It's a masterpieeeeece" 🤡
No, it is a VERY good time killer, with some systems and aspects that could have used some changes.. specially after 6 years. Combat and camera, durability, storytelling (great beginning and ending) and the sad excuse for "Temples" we got this time around (which are somehow worse).
It does activity-loops very well, and they are addictive and entertaining. Sure, it adds some fun abilities, had a LOT lf unnecessary details that are beyond welcome, and the building aspects offer a lot of entertainment.. but it is NOT a masterpiece, and it saddens me that some people believe games will never be better than this! Because they will, and they could be right now.
It's a masterpiece BECAUSE of the gameplay entertainment value and how much attention to detail there is. Very few games can rival the quality in totk, that's why everyone loves it so much.
If you enjoy these zelda games, yes the botw and totk are drastically different than the previous zelda games, you should give some of the older zelda games a try, like minish cap, ocarina of time, majoras mask, twilight princess and skyward sword. The last one i mention skyward sword ties into botw and totk.
I see, I got a lot of catching up to do then...
minish cap has been getting so much clout latley it feels like.
i would definitley recommend either wind waker or ocarina of time as the next game. i would reccomend botw but its essentially a worse tears of the kingdom so probably eventually try it after its been a while and the overworld feels fresh.
either the 3ds version or the n64 version of ocarina of time would work, id say eventually wind waker hd will re release on switch me and most ppl dont understand why it hasnt already, so i would reccomend wind waker but its probably better to wait and play oot IF YOUR GONNA EXPLORE THE SERIES
speaking of skyward sword, kinda bummed there were no loftwings in TOTK
@@Atmux OR if u wanna get technical BOTW and theirfore tears of the kingdom were inspired from the first legend of zelda game which is the only other true open world game in the series, most the other games are linier with some dungeons in an optional order. so if u wanna truly see where the ideas came from play the first game though youll definitely need a guide or preferably a freind whos beaten it and can guide you. its one of the hardest zelda games but that would make for great content
@@EthanP. Luckily the first one is extremely accessable, if you have Nintendo online, you can play it all you want. It's also easy to get a hold and play it on an emulator. Although playing it on original hardware will be difficult due to the price.
I agree. I know ff16 is gona be great too. But having played totk, it's just very hard to imagine a game that can top this. But we'll see.
Kinda neat that Matt mercer put all kinds of totk spoilers in the current critical roll campaign. It not beat for beat, but there was clearly some homework copied
Matt Mercer the goat
whaaat I didn't even notice! do you remember any??
@Kiw how badly do you really want spoilers to totk? It has to do with the blood moon, some memories shards and a few other things. Not saying mercer copied everything, but the inspiration is objectively there
@@paul-ernestmichel123 I am caught up on CR and finished totk! The red moon has been there since campaign 1 tho
@Kiw there are red moons all over media, of all types. In cr specifically, it's role is vastly diffrent. And tokt was 6 years in development
Honestly, the only issue I have with this video is your inflection on the ends of sentences. It sounds like you're questioning almost every word that comes out of your mouth with the raised inflection 😅 Otherwise, solid video
Yeah I get that a lot. Speaking clearly is harder for me, so I'm still having trouble sounding normal.
@@Atmux Hey man, I totally get it. It's not the easiest thing in the world. It's just a matter of recognizing the inflections and trying to make it sound more normal over time. I wasn't trying to be a dick or make you seem self conscious about it, I just wanted to point it out because it's very glaring. I still watched the whole video, but I would definitely try to treat it more as a conversation with friends, rather than reading a script. And if English isn't your first language, then even more power to you. Regardless of the situation, keep pushing and learning, and it will eventually become second nature!

honestly a series of your blind reviews of zelda games would be amazing. if your gonna explore more of the series ya gotta do ocarina of time next. i love that game and majoras mask so much i still can pick a favorite zelda game between them and TOTK. while totk is amazing it still coulda done a couple more things, feel like it could have more tracks in the soundtrack, their are some good ones ESPECIALLY the main theme but overall totk soundtrack still isnt as fleshed out as past eras. zelda is VERY well known for its music. framerate issues, shrines are great but still couldve used more dungeon variety, i LOVED the desert temple compared to botw this game did much better tho in my opinion all of the divine beast were boring dungeons so this is still a vast improvement, i just dont like that the concept is copy and pasted across the main dungeons
I would love to blind review older zelda games in the future. But alas, I'm focusing more on recent releases right now. Maybe on a slow month and a bigger audience, I'll play through some older zelda games. But yeah, every zelda game just looks too great to miss!
18:53 you can summon them via there sage symbol in the menu 👍🏻
Or dismiss them! Annoys me them running behind

Biggest issue is the performance? Havent you seen twitter? Its clearly the fact that theyre patching glitches obviously.
Great video btw
Nah I don't use twitter. I have no idea about the glitches. But if Nintendo wants to patch them then it is what it is.
I really like rail grinding and diving with Sonic the He- errm, I mean Link.

Your getting two shot becouse you havn't upgraded your armour which makes a HUGE diffrence , with fully upgraded almost all enemy attwck will only deal 1/4 heart damage

You could have managed those spoiler Warnings a Bit better. I mean the first footage is the final fight and the word spoilers is hidden because of the title length

Totk is way better but it’s not the same impact, having history with the franchise has me tainted on how much I could enjoy totk
Having a new world to explore is what’s most important to me so I’m not too big a fan of returning on the same map
I see where you're coming from, as long as they made significant changes to make it feel different, then I won't mind as much.
But it’s not really the same map except in the most general sense. I played BotW for hundreds of hours, yet didn’t recognize Hyrule in TotK! There are tons of changes. And of course they added two brand new layers to boot.
Older Zelda games are smaller and more "Metroid-like". You might even like them more than TotK.

I think in terms of combat, music and story FF may be able to compete with Tears. And it will obviously take graphics just from the difference in hardware. However, the freedom and creativity that Tears gives you, the vastness of the world, the many options you have just in general and the exploration. Not to mention the physics. Those are the aspects that will be hardest to top. While I do believe Tears may ultimately win GOTY, if it were to lose, FF is one of the few games I would be ok with it losing to. The others being RE4 and Spiderman.
So many good games competing for GOTY it's hard to choose...

Only 4 games as Ganondorf, but around 5 more as Demise and Ganon
Breath of the Wild was revolution, tears of kingdom is evolution. BotW will always be the better game

Sad how people keep trashing Nintendo graphics. ff16 and other ps games are killing Nintendo IP
Honestly they can trash this game all they want, this is the most fun i had in decades with a game. Graphically a lot of games look better but it always comes with sacrifice. I played horizon Forbidden west which looks phenomenal, but it was just so forgettable and monotone after a while.
From an IP that's dying it's odd that it's breaking many records
It’s like comparing apple and oranges. I love FF series as much as I love the Zelda series. They are completely different experience.
Art direction > graphic fidelity any day
@@brotbrotsen1100 Nintendo is a dying brand my dude. Gamers hate their outdated tech and graphics sadly every games has to be hyper realistic cinematic graphics like ps games in order to be considered real game
So I loved Elden Ring, but compared to the way TotK does the open world it's got nothing. Everyone was going crazy over Elden Ring's open world and I thought BotW did a much better job, but I was starting to think I had nostalgia goggles on maybe.
In Elden Ring I was just looking at the map to find the map, and then again look at the map to see what looks like a Point of Interest, much like in any Open world game. It's just look at the map, mark a spot and run over there.
Fast forward to TotK. I'm suddenly hardly using the map, I'm looking at the world to find a high place. From a high place I'm then looking for Points of Interest, zooming in with my Purah Pad to see weird things and mark them. The only thing that might be good to add is something like Ghost of Tsushima's wind guiding you in the right direction. Since the markers aren't visible in the world.
Elden Ring does a lot of things very well, but people saying that the open world is done better than BotW, or now TotK, are straight up lying.
I agree the open world in Totk is done WAY better than in Elden Ring
You end every sentence with the same vocal inflection. It’s really distracting, lol!
I'm trying, I have a really weird voice 😭
@@Atmux Your voice itself is fine--just the way you "deliver" the narrative. But I'll take that vs. the reviewers who swear constantly or use a really fake put-on enthusiastic voice.
Sorry. Elden ring was kind of boring. Of course I played it for 400 hours.
Understandable
Same level as Elden Ring lol? I can tell that you are a young man in this new age era lol. First of all, TOTK is above Elden Ring on every level! ELDEN Ring isn't even better than BOTW 😆 Zelda has too much history for a game like Elden Ring to even stand next to it let alone topple it. Elden Ring is an overrated game that only sold because of hype. Its just an open world dark souls with nothing interesting in its open world. Also, Elden Ring stole a lot of bright ideas from the game thats better than it, and that game is BOTW. Even Bloodborne was a far better balanced game. Very boring game with bad mechanics and gameplay.
Yea I guess I am quite young in this industry lol. I haven't played too many amazing open world games before. And I thought Elden Ring was a great one, so I compared it to that.
@Atmuz at least you're honest. It's all good man. I was kinda being an azzhole, but an honest azzhole lol. So I apologize for coming off kind of strong.
@@redcrimson1028 It's all good. I was never offended, and I welcome different opinions from mine. So it was interesting to see your pserspective. We're all good 👍👍
Here’s a dislike for spoiling the final boss.
My guy, he was revealed before the game came out.
"Oh no, another Zelda game, hope the boss isn't Ganon... AGAIN"
@@Atmuxyea but you put the scene in your intro lmfao
Gave your comment a dislike for being unreasonable. Why do people look up gameplay footage from games they haven’t played yet and then complain that they saw too much. How about you close CZcams and fire up TotK on your Switch?
@@Atmux You obviously should've asked me first on what I meant by my original comment. This anti-intellectual uploader showed footage of cutscenes with Link riding the Light Dragon with Ganondorf Defeated main objective completed. The dude literally spoiled scenes of the final boss. Now I know that part of the final boss deals with going up in the skies with the help of the light dragon.
