    Hiked this just a few days after doing a R2R of the GC. Would say that the uphill on the dune was much worse than the climb out of the GC for sure. You do have to stay on the ridges for a better climb, but depending on how things go, you get into sections where the back sliding is quite bad and to make reasonable progress, you have to run up before you slide back and that is taxing. Incredibly unique sights and view and it's like that just pop up out of nowhere.

    I'm sure they really appreciated having someone to talk to on the descent, considering they're grinding through 58 14ers in less than 10 days. This is the first time I've ever seen them in action, and it's kind of fascinating to watch their hiking style - despite being in absolute peak physical condition, they're not running, they're pacing and walking with ample use of poles the whole way down. Really gives me some insight into my own technique. Another great vid!

It is $15 for a single person last time I went. I think each additional person is $5 more. Then you get all your miles just in the Canyon and not running to/from car. No class 4 on Mt Muir if you are on route, but you can easily veer into class 4 if you do not recognize good routes. It's not hard class 3 climbing. There are places with exposure, but the climbing is easy. Once you have done true class 4 routes, you know the difference. Class 4 routes involve harder moves as well as exposure. Heck, class 2 can have significant exposure, so exposure is not the sole factor.

    • @HikingEngineer
      @HikingEngineer Před 23 dny

      I understand the difference between exposure and the technicality YDS ratings of scrambles and climbs. In my opinion, there were some class 4 moves on Muir. @@HikingEngineer I agree with you. I have noted a lot more people posting videos about mountaineering, and a tendency to rate things as class 4 that are not. The problem with that is inexperienced people, inspired by little more than CZcams info, thinking wrongly that they can therefore do class 4 because they scrambled up a route overrated as class 4. Distinguishing between 3s and 4s can de tricky as there is plenty of borderline terrain. But newer climbers better be confident about rock craft before they go try a true 4. I have seen videos of young enthusiastic scramblers on very hard terrain with poor rock skills - just adventuring their way up. It reminds me of descriptions of climbers 90 years ago just making it up as the first in the High Sierra. No reason to be that crazy.

    Awesome! You did it so fast! How long do you think it would take hiking at a moderate to fast pace? 7-8 hours?

      yeah I think you could easily do it in 7-8 just walking at a good rate. I did it with a gf years ago in around 8 hours I think, and we had water to deal with

    Man! What’s up with all that people in Wirepass ? 😳 was that a weekend? I went down Wirepass to Buckskin twice last year, first time there was a ladder, second time there was only a rope, the ladder was washed away. I need to try the route you took in this video sometime soon seems a lot of fun 😎. Just need to work the logistics of getting back to my car 😬
