Hello, this channel started out years ago as a way to just share small videos of what I enjoy in life. Since 2017 I have become a bicycle shop ambassador and like to share my honest opinions and a few tips, tricks and hacks. No, im not paid by any sponsors or brands of anything I talk about. I might change opinions from time to time as I get more use from a product. Feel free to like and follow my videos. The more everyone stays interested, the more videos I'll make. Stay tuned!!!

CHINturato... My life's mission, educate the world 😂
I had the same bike in 27.5, sold it and got into the 2022 X3 in 27.5. I love it, way better bike.
What does rim brake pro 1 medium weigh?
Mine is medium/large with a few things changed. It weighs 15.9 lbs. Stock would be closer to 16.5
What’s that crank you running?
Sram gx
@@blkbelttony did you had to change the bottom bracket for that?
Yes, the praxis crank uses smaller bearings. Sram's website was very helpful picking out the right bb
Im looking at the new ones now
It's a fun bike. You'll love it. Gets so much attention
Just wanted to say this is a criminally underviewed and commented video. I also have a Giant Revolt Advanced and I've been looking all over for what the Giant bags would like look on it. You show them off really well and mention all the important sizing specs to compare. A godsend. Also, your whole bikepacking setup is just straight up cool. Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much. If you have any other questions please just ask. Side note. The h20 top nag is too small for any larger items included modern cell phones. Also it uses a rubber seal Lind of like a zip lock bag tends to fail.
@@blkbelttony Thank you for the warning about the top tube bag. Funnily enough, I was already heavily considering basically buying the whole H2Pro getup EXCEPT the top tube bag. Reasons being the small size like you said, but also being unable to bolt it on like some other top tube bags. Hearing that the zipper is also kind of iffy just cements that decision for me. I'm currently eyeing the Tailfin Top Tube bag with a flip lid. Everyone seems to love that one, its large and fully waterproof - albeit at a steeper price.
Here is another video of mine . It's a review about my tires, but you can see the h20 bag on the bike for scale. czcams.com/video/yI8RxPx9RMk/video.htmlsi=pVZY__CtoL8iSmOl
Great video
Thank you
Great video! May I ask what width you have of the rims? Cause I'm thinking of buying 40 or 45, and my rims are 23mm, so interesting if the rim width would effect the width of the tire since my frame takes maximum 45mm. thanks! Wiktor
Thank you. I'm not sure what the stove rim width is. I'd say go with the 40c at that size. 45 might feel too soft on a 23. Besides, 40c is more than enough for a gravel bike
@@blkbelttony THanks, I'll go for the 40 :)
@@blkbelttonyHi! Great video! The tyres are very good for him. Please tell me the brand model of the saddle? Comfortable if driving in the lower position of the steering wheel?
@@Atlantis109 it is the giant fleet sl saddle. It's comfortable to me
@@blkbelttony 45 мм подойдут на 22 мм обод?
0mm offset chainring that comes with the bike is wrong, it should be 3mm, i know cause i have the same bike, and chain started droping on climbs when using easier gears, then i replaced it with proper chainring, and then i got oval chainring, and it has worked since. So you dodged a bullet by going with that 3mm offset 32t chainring
This is 3mm offset
Got the exact same bike, made it a Beast! Very nice set up
Thanks man, Bike has ton of potential
Sweet rim brake 👍
Thank you
@@blkbelttony I have the regular advanced. Currently considering the SL frameset as an upgrade 😁
Been enjoying this bike the past 1 1/2 years. Wanted to add a few comments. One, the paint is really nice, but chips easily. First chip I received on rear triangle and I ended up partially ride wrapping the bike. Like the paint and don't want it to chip. For those like myself that received the bikes with Shimano 410 hubs. If you notice the bike doesn't seem as lively after about a year or so of riding, check your rear hub and how it spins. Shimano did not install that great of bearings and wow do new bearings make a difference. My Trance 3 29er had the Shimano MT420 brakes, 4 piston in front, 2 in rear. They were ok, do not have the modulation issues other Shimano brakes have. I ended up upgraded to some nice TRP brakes, going downhill, wanted a bit more power. This is still a nice, fun bike to ride.
Thank you for the added Input. Again we have to remember at this price point we don't get the best of parts. But the frame is worth upgrading. I myself just upgraded, cranks, shifters and i9 wheels are next.
@@blkbelttony Yea, especially with the 2021 with the parts shortages. We ended up getting 25mm internal rims. I just upgraded those as well to WTB Kom Toughs/XT8110 hubs, I too am a larger guy, so these new wheels are nice. Which shifters and cranks did you get? Was thinking of upgrading to the XT's shifters and considering different cranks in the future.
I'm going sram gx. Road I lije shimano, mtb sram to me just seems to be a little suited better to my style
Just picked one of these up today!
Cool. You are going to love it.
I got the same bike in 27.5.
What is the head angle on it ?
125 mm . Here is a link. www.giant-bicycles.com/us/fathom-1-2018
Thanks again for all the great (and helpful) videos Tony! My buddy gave me his 40mm Pirelli's. I'll be putting them on my Norco (I wish my Defy could fit them). P.S. where can I get the awesome stickers with my name/flag etc? Yours look great!
The stickers on this bije was from a friend that don't do this as a business. He made these for me as a gift. My other bikes are veloink.com
Great video and nice MTB Tony! Glad to see another well done video.
Thank you. I'll follow up with another soon
@@blkbelttony Looking forward to it! Not sure if I told you, but bought a Defy. Love it! I have to put Zipp 303s on it soon. Thanks again for your Defy & Giant videos! 👍🏼🍻
@Alex Murray nice. What a great bike. Those 303's will make a big difference in the way it rides.
I have the exact same bike (only changed the bars to Trail1 alloy)no complaints with this bike. Question: I will change my 30t chainring to a 32 also, the SRAM you replaced yours with didn't need any mods to fit?? I've got 2 in my Amazon "list" to choose/order after watching your video. Thanks😎👍🏼👍🏼
@David Gough I literally just swapped it out. Not a single adjustment was done. Chain line seems fine and never skips or grinds. I also changed the bars. I went with the race face atlas in cask money ( gold) same 20 rise. I like them. Eventually new wheels ( I nine) are coming along with sram cranks and derailleur. Ill post updated videos. Please like and follow. Thanks
Between this bike and the Rocky mountain Bike Growler 40 which would you go with?
The one I own.( giant xtc)
@@blkbelttony Thanks.
@James Medina-Dellon also consider the giant fathom. It's more comparable to the rocky mountain growler. Both are trail bikes. The xtc is an xc bike. Sorry I am just giving you a better answer. I was driving before.good luck in your decision

too expensive this bike should be worth 800 dollars shimano brakes are low end for that price and fork should be at least rock shox
It is actually one of the best XC MTB on the market ^^
@@rap4live39 the market is too expensive.
@@999momak yeah sure. But that makes the bike a good deal for that price. Have to look at it in this relation...

TCR Giant, are the best road bikes in world. Smooth Sharp Handles like a dream, like a missile.
Hello there! Appreciate the review! Planning to change some components of the bike to able to do small and medium jumps. Is it possible? And can i use 140mm fork?
Thank you for watching. It's actually a great bike. I'm not sure how the 140mm forks would change the steering geometry. I'd ask a good bike shop that question. I've changed the tires to 2.4 more aggressive and what a difference. The shifters are now sram gx. Another great upgrade. Best of luck with yours. Let's us know how it works out.
@@blkbelttony wow! Sure ill let gou know! Have you tried it on jumps on trails? Ill change my tires ths week 27.5 at the back and 29er front
Yes, it jumps very well. Very stable and level bike in the air.
@@blkbelttony thank you si much for this!!
You're very welcome
Its not made for jumping so that kind of explains the suspension
It handles most cross country jumps without an issue. It's not a Enduro or downhill bike, but the frame is very strong and still the fork is holding up with no problems other than it's heavy
Where did you buy spacers for the build??
This was a factory stock build. Spacers came with the bike
@@blkbelttony that kind of spaces are hard to find.
Ask local giant dealers if they have any from customers that cut down sterling tubes
Hi Tony, how's the handling etc? Is this bike still good for fast riding and racing? I usually ride more race geometries. Thanks
Bike handles very well. For racing I would go tcr. The defy is fast over bumpy and in straights.sprinting is a little mushy.
@@blkbelttony I actually have a TCR but have been experiencing speed wobble on it, something I haven't had on other race bikes. I thought maybe with the Defy's longer wheelbase and shorter reach it would hopefully feel more stable on descents. At the same time I don't want to sacrifice lightweight, sharp handling, climbing performance etc. Would the Defy still offer these things?
I'm also not much of a sprinter lol. I only weigh around 69kg and I like to go hard on climbs, stuff like that
@@charlesgraham-dixon2637 I'd get that bike checked out. I currently own a new tcr and have had a few before and rode at least a dozen others and never felt a wobble at speeds. I've topped out over 50 mph on a few bikes. That said... the defy is better on those fast downhills. The 32c tires feel planted and the brakes work flawlessly
Why do you say "you will be disappointed" if you want a race bike, where as in you previous statement you said it is a fast bike with a light frame!
It's fast for what it is... a $1300 bike. Yes the frame is light too fir that price point, but with its stock set up it's just not meant to be a race bike. Eventually the low end components will fail. I have since upgraded the shifter and derailleur, went with a shorter stem and bigger tires. The tires is personal because of where I ride mostly. Of course you can race the bike, but a guy as good as you on a higher end bike will have an advantage. That said I personally put out over 1600 watts and can push this bike up a hill or out of a corner faster than a little of guys my age, but give me a lighter , stiffer bike and I'd be faster. So, to be clear. For the price it is one of the best out there, just don't compare it to a higher end specked bike.
I am thinking about getting that bike. Does the bottom bracket creak? Also, I heard that spacers are scratching the frame on that bike. Is that true? I am mainly concerned about the bottom bracket cuz it is a press fit. I am a new to cycling and all the CZcams reviews say that press fit is hit or miss and I am concerned about it. Anything else you think is of concern, I would surely appreciate it.
I've had many giants with press fit. I'm over 200lbs and put out almost 1600 watts on a sprint. On bikes with lower quality control press fit can be a pain. As far as the spacers go. Yes, it will rub if you use an aftermarket stem. It needs to be trimmed if you gi that route. 2 minutes with a dremmal. Never had any other problems. I absolutely love this bike.
Just like mine Reynolds Assult SE. Same dound.
Lovely 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Does the frame feel stiffer than the previous. Not that the previos one was lackimg in stiffness...
Only under hard acceleration. This bike rides so amooth I sold my defy.
I had the 2019 pro 1 4 years ago and it was a fast bike! Im going to pick this bike up next week!
@@devintom4346 you are going to love it. I had a 2017 and 18 pro 1 rim. This bike feels way better than both of them.
Sounds like its faster and smoother than the previous model. Im stoked
There’s no way to make this hub sound like the disk version correct?
Depending on what disk version you mean. If it's the slr 1 but disks it should sound the same. If it's the psr aluminum wheels that have tracker hubs then no. But hub sounds can be changed by how much grease or oil you use in the pawls
@@blkbelttony gotcha. Cuz I love the sound the disk brake SLR 1 rims/hub make and I want it on my Cervelo S5 but they’re rim brakes so I wasn’t sure.
Are these bike got hookless rim please can you explain what ate they and is it a big disadvantage
East answer is hookless will allow the tire to be wider than a hook type rim. Sov25c feels like 28c all with less weight
@@blkbelttony can I put any Tyre on these wheels and any rube on these wheels and are they clincher
No, giant only allows certain tires. Go to giants website. And no, do not use tubes.
I switched to 28mm GP5000S TR. Ohh man! Night and day. On the stock tires it felt like someone was pulling me back. Also, now it feels like I'm riding on marshmallows.
hi does anyone know the tire clearance of thi model? if it is the same frame as the disc version could I assume it will have the same tire clearance of 32 mm? (maybe changing the brake calipers)
28 max due to brake calipers
@@blkbelttony Hi Tony, thanks for your answer. I was referring to the space in the frame. I'd like to know if swapping the brake calipers for bigger ones I could be able to fit a larger tire than 28 mm.
I'd say probably not. I just looked at pics of my bike and it looks 28 would be the biggest I'd put in
Thanks..just bought the defy advanced 1 today..yet to ride but im sure i will love it :)
I've got a 2019 Defy as well. I've used it on dirt roads many times with similar results and thought it might handle some true gravel riding. Was looking to see if anyone had thrown some actual gravel tires on it to see how it does. Ever tested it?!
This bike did have cycle cross tires on it for a short time. Let's say it can handle light gravel duty, but the rock chips hurt to look at. If you're going to do enough gravel get the revolt. Pick up a second set of wheels with street tires and you'll be set for anything
Beautiful bike. Congrats.
Thanks Tony! Awesome videos! I FINALLY have a Yukon 2 and Defy 3 on order!
Awesome bikes. You're going to love them. Thanks for watching
hey there twowheeltony at 00:48 seconds I noticed there is a gap between top tube and the two water bottles. I was wondering if a bontrager adventure bag would fit in that space. it is a long slender 3L bag that attaches to the bottom of the top tube : )
Thanks for watching. I'm not familiar with trek bags. I don't want to say yes or no. Sorry
@@blkbelttony hey hey no worries : ) I appreciate the reply nonetheless haha
Hello sir, I just got my giant tcr advanced pro 1, I'm so disappointed to the bike shop who built my bike, they didn't accommodate me well, the customer service was so so bad. They forgot to give me my power meter charger and the worst scenario was they didn't give me anything that comes with the giant tcr bike after they build it, like you will feel that they just want me to get the bike and leave the store. How was your experienced when you got your bike sir from the dealer? What did they gave you that comes from the giant? So I have an idea if I'm missing something. Thank you so much in advance
I'm very sorry you had a bad experience with your bike shop. Your bike should come eith the charger and all the spare frame plugs and reflectors. It is possible that the shop just forgot to hand them over. Also included is giants basic owners safety manual. Ask them for all this. I actually built my own bike at my local shop so I'd have no one to blame for missing parts.
So they should have give me a reflectors and like some frame tape protectors?
@@rupsdelson yes, the frame plugs are to cover the holes where cables go in. So let's say you get electric shifting, those cable holes get filled
And if you don't mind, when you got your bike did you order it at the giant dealer and you are the one who told them to get it build? Because If I just knew I build it on my own as well. Because the frame box that should be there they disposed it.
@@rupsdelson yes, I ordered it through my dealer. I was able to build my bike myself at the dealer.
I have the same bike but the xtc 1 that come whit slx and xt is a super good drivetrain the fork is good very plush no problems after 1 month of heavy rides i say is a ver good xc bike is a fast climber
Great video and amazing bike. Expecting mine in the coming days! Stay safe!
Hi, thanks for your review. Giant claims the tire clearance for 2021 model is up to 28mm, I was wondering if you have tried it or know if it is possible to fit 28 tires with the rim version? I know Ultegra R8000 supports 28mm but the frame and fork gotta clear them too. Thanks in advance!
I have heard of people running the 28c tires and had no major issues other than debris that sticks to the tires scratching up the fork crown. That said. I'm a fan of bigger tires but with the new hook less wheels the 25c tires at 82 psi are smoother and more comfortable than any 28c tires I have ever ridden on conventional wheels. Give the 25c a chance with the lower pressure. And no, it's not slower rolling at those speeds and you are less likely to puncture at that pressure. Hard tires will always lose to harder debris.

Hello sir, when you bought your bike is the giant neostrack speed sensor included? And did you cut the steerer tube at the store? I'm about to pick up my bike same as yours, tomorrow. Thank you in advance
No, the speed sensors is not included. The power meter on the cranks will also give cadence but speed is by GPS. I cut the steerer myself at the store.
Hello Tony. Hope all is well. I have similar skewers. I noticed that mine are not like the traditional skewers the you push the lever up. I had to "twirl" my lever around til I couldn't move it around anymore. Are your titanium skewers like this also? Hope you can answer. Take care.
Somewhat. All need to be tightened down enough then flip the lever lock and secure
How does the bike ride?!
New tcrs are very smooth and comfortable, but stiff when you push it like in a sprint. Feels very light but solid.
