My grandparents, Saul and Gertrude, used to speak Yiddish and their roots came from Ukraine and Poland. Hearing this famous song in their tongue makes me think of my grandparents. It’s a beautifully done cover.

I feel like Yiddish taught in American classrooms should be the dialect spoken by native Yiddish Speakers. Hassidic Yiddish should be the Standard simply because they are the only Jews that teach the language as a Mame Loshn.

I had no idea Evgeny Kissin spoke Yiddish! Well done. He heard his grandparents speaking Yiddish as a secret language and picked it up. Very interesting. And he learned to read Yiddish. Notice the look of admiration of the Forwards interviewer. No one of 52 knows Yiddish nowadays. He is 52 now. Fascinating. Kissin is obviously brilliant at more than music.
