  • Does the existential threat to Israel mean a threat to Jewish people worldwide?
Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and author of “Night,” seemed to think so. In 1976, he was interviewed by Forverts editor Shimon Weber on its radio station WEVD. Only a few years after the existential dread of the Yom Kippur War, Weber pressed Wiesel on how it could be that all the Arab countries were obtaining weapons from Moscow and Washington.
Taking a sweeping glance at this issue, Wiesel told Weber that these are symptoms of a greater problem: the convergence and divergence of history itself.
Wiesel wasn’t content to just advocate for his theological position. He also worked hard to convince Nixon’s Jewish Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to be more loyal to Israel. If only he would understand history, Wiesel said.
This tape and several others were recently digitized by the Forward after they were generously returned to the Forward archives by Weber’s daughter Lillian Silver.

Thank G-d, the successful IDF counter-terrorist actions prevent terorists from launching rockets towards Israel from the area with civilian homes. Let us focus on the positive - the unity of all the people of Israel. The Jewish unity reminds us of the eternal connection between Jews, Eretz Israel, and the G-d Himself. May G-d at this very moment fulfill His promise of true and final Redemption of Jewish people with the immediate arrival of Moshiach ben Dovid!
