Guten Tag Michael
Guten Tag 😃
The Fiedler roadmap is crazy. They are single handedly making ambisonics mainstream maneuverable.
I wish we had supervisors like you at our University, great content as always!
Thanks! Much appreciated!
I need a Dummies book. What is the differance between Spacelabs and fiedler audio dolby atmos composer
Spacelab is the reverb that can be added to the composer. And the composer is a tool that creates Dolby Atmos content. Completely different things.
@@michaelgwagner Got it. Thank you
I was wondering about this!
Now there's no excuse not to have a decent Atmos mix & master in a deliverable format
Well, creating a mastering step in an object oriented production workflow is not as trivial as it sounds. I think Fiedler Audio did a great job making that possible.
Very cool!
I agree. :)
If I'm say, in 5.1, can you select which speakers are activated? Ie, I want the panner to just effect the 2 rear channels.
No. In that case it would be better to just use a stereo plugin that acts on the two surround speakers.
do need a file to use those mixer settings or can you also listen to youtube with an activated profile?
I am honestly not sure what the question is. For what do you need a file?
@@michaelgwagner can you also use these mix plugins without using a file for it. for example, i want to watch a movie on netflix with the setting "studio montiors near", or a youtube video. is that possible?
@zeromy88 You would need to option to use it system wide. Some solutions allow you to do this. But that depends on ehat you want to use and wether you are on Windows or MacOS.
This is an amazing tutorial, you are very skilled at breaking down and communicating the steps toward a complex task.
Thanks! 😊
Tanks for your review. I Yes the RODE NT FS1 for my recording for live concert and nature ambient sounds.
Good choice!
Thanks for the review. Can you describe the difference between how this plugin and the audio brewers astrometry delay processes signal (ambisonics)?
It’s primarily a matter about addressing the individual channels directly or going through Ambisonics as an intermediary format. The latter is more flexible in terms of speaker configurations.
300 DOLLARS

I'm windows. I bought a 200 quid m1 macbook air and dante it into protools
Nice! 👍
Thanks Michael! Never would have noticed this on my own. I'm excited to try it out.
You’re welcome!
Great delay and there's really not a lot of immersive delays out there full stop! A shame it doesn't seem to support agnostic channel counts at the moment? Couldn't get it out of stereo mode in Plogue Bidule or Kushview Element when placed on 12 channel routings for example.
The developer is very responsive. You might want to ping him.
@@michaelgwagner He's confirmed the AU and VST versions have an issue switching to multichannel and is working on a fix.
Yes, I noticed that the AU version has issues depending on DAW. VST3 works fine.
theres a 33% off flash sale that lasts until tomorrow, comes out to $49
Thanks for the info! I filmed this s while ago so I couldn’t refer to any sale unfortunately. At $49 it really is a bargain.
Hello professor, thank you so much for making this series! I am following your steps at around 24:00 in visual studio to add the myFootsetp event, but it says that the AK type or namespace is not found. What should I do to fix it?
same😢
I have seen this error being mentioned in various forums. I honestly don't know how to fix this but you might be successful by searching through the Unity discussion boards. Some people apparently managed to fix this by manually adding the Assembly Definition References for Wwise in the Project Assembly File.
@@michaelgwagner Where would the Project Assembly File be located? I'm very much new to this
@@utcjohnson283Assets-Starter Assets-Runtime
@@michaelgwagnerIt helps. Thank you.
Does the ax Suite support 96kHz?
I don’t see why not. 😉
massively appreicate your work!
Thanks! You’re very welcome!
Thanks for this very informative video. How does one play the combined Atmos/video file on a multi speaker playback system? What application can be used to properly send 7.1.4 Atmos audio from this encoded video file to the hardware speaker outputs, presumably using an audio interface to feed the physical amp/speaker hardware? Can the encoded video be uploaded to CZcams and played via a streaming device such as Apple TV to an Atmos receiver? Also, since I am not using Resolve, but in fact mix Atmos on Pro Tools, can the normal ADM file be used with the media converter you show in your video to combine that audio file with a video file without using Resolve? Thanks!
You should be able to use AWS mediaconvert to marry a video with an Atmos ADM. For playback there are ways to use playback over HDMI, but I have not done that myself.
Hi Michael, there is a quick way to expose parameters for automation. Alt-Click on the control does it right away. For sources, select the source(s) and alt-Click onto X, Y or Z and the position of the selected source(s) is exposed. And you should update gravitas as there are buttons in the Input Config window now which lets you deselect many channels quickly.
Great! I recorded that video before you published the update.

Interesting. What DAW and OS are you using?

Going through these lessons and just want to drop a line of appreciation! Learning Wwise after using FMOD for some time has been super smooth so far, thank you!
You’re very welcome!
It does seem like a good idea would be to get a small (maybe touch screen monitor) to house the renderer to stream line the process... especially when creating a song in Atmos as you will need to go back a forth a lot as you add new object rather than a full mix where you make all those in one go
Going to be doing this myself at some point... currently the version is 5.3, so this is now better or is there any issues that have arisen with new versions and ableton? Will be doing presonus for professional mixing and mastering but for my own production I will be using Ableton
I’m not aware of any issues. The main functionality of the renderer is still the same.
intresting thing I saw on graphs. my own DT 880 totally repeating NDH 30 graph till 3 kHz. sure, THD different but I thinking about.. do I really need those Neumanns now?
I have a 7.1.4 studio and I can't stand the sound of immersive reverbs. The speakers are in a room already adding an immersive fake room into a real room which already has it's own natural reverb sounds washy and awful. Just your usual stereo reverbs used for traditional mixing panned with your instruments in 3d space is more than enough reverb. I also find that compressing the whole bed destroys the beauty of the Atmos space and especially makes no sense for the top speakers. I find if you want to glue certain transients a limiter or clipper on the individual source is much better, and if the outcome is the add punch to the envelope then a transient designer on the drums etc works better for Atmos. Stereo that's a different story. I think engineers think they need the same tools in Atmos but they don't, a lot of the regular concepts from stereo are actually detrimental to an emotional Atmos mix. Btw your immersive Maschine idea is brilliant 👌🏾
Thanks for the input. I used the side chain compression more as a proof of concept. It obviously depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Great videos Michael - thanks. Isn't the same achieved without the need for Audio Sends or Dolby Atmos Panner - i.e. just using SPAT Spatial MC - but keeping the DIRECT Signal. That way you only use and need the SPAT MC Panner and it positions both the Dry (direct) audio AND the position of same within the reverb room (routing achieved directly in the SPAT MC to the Dolby renderer EXT channels). I realise this is mixing Objects into the bed directly - but simpler approach with same outcome ? - what am I missing?
Thanks! If you mix objects into the bed you are losing one of the main advantages of Dolby Atmos which is that it is agnostic to the speaker layout. The bed is also not fully immersive because it only has two overheads.
A comparison of the ones you tried would be appreciated greatly. 👍🏼🎶😎
does this work in logic as well?
Very good question. It should but I‘m not sure.
Morning Michael :) Just watched this for a second time and found yet more information that i missed from the 1st viewing :) Quick Question how much of a difference does the dolby render make with the selection of the overhead speaker ? For example I have my 9.1.6 setup set using the original 4 overhead + adding the middle set and i am just wondering if this will make a big difference? Rather than having two separate setups with different speaker selections :( I have a 7.1.4 setup in the render so i can change back and fourth for checking my mix setting.. Having delivered quite a few mixes now to apple music i have always noticed that there is a small noticeable difference from my render and what I hear with apple :( Yes i am only getting 7.1.4 back from apple music but still notice a difference from the render set to 7.1.4... I will try using my iRender when mixing and monitoring in future on the headphones. I Also noticed a comment on this thread regarding a different way to set thing up :) Could be a good follow up video :) QFXMusic :) This is my other channel
@ 5:40 - The cost of even the highest education in the future will be merely the cost of your VERY low subscription to your multi-modal AI model of choice... essentially FREE when compared to higher educational costs in the U.S.
That‘s a bit of a dystopian viewpoint. Not saying that‘s not possible. I‘m just a bit more optimistic.
Hi. İf ı want to 2th order sound design for Vr or 360 video (FB, Oculus) content without headphones with speaker, what is the true speaker placement? İs it like dolby atmos speaker placement which is recomended for spatia audio? Thanks
Ambisonics is speaker agnostic. You can decode it to any speaker layout you like. If you have an Atmos setup, that would be a good choice.
@@michaelgwagner Thank you very much 🙏
Hi, thanks for this review. How good its dac preform? Or do you suggest to use it with external dac?
I don’t use it as a DAC. I’m not an expert in analyzing DAC performance but to me it appears as good as any other DAC I own.
@@michaelgwagner but if you choose the unit with analog outputs its also doing the conversion, am i wrong ?
@upitshak Yes, you can use it as a DAC.
@@michaelgwagner i talked with minidsp support. If you choose the one with the digital outputs actually it come without a dac. Its called 'minidsp flex digital'. Use for external dac, so all signal remains digital.
@upitshak Makes sense, thanks for the info.
Say “There’s a bomb in there.”
Can the Mpc Live 2 do Dolby atmos?
It needs to be able to load in VST3 plugins.
worst headset I've ever bought in my entire life, and I've owned several, I'm a gamer and I've been buying parts since the 90s, I already own different models and brands of headphones and my first and last experience with HyperX was buying this one crap orbit S, they denied me the warranty due to a physical defect, and the phone opened cracks everywhere in less than 1 month of use, and I'm extremely annoying and cautious with my computer stuff. Not even the 5 dollar crap from Leadership that I bought at the supermarket was a problem like that. I paid 280 euros, it broke in 1 month, I had to patch it completely with durex and silvertape because the warranty refused to return the money or give me another phone because the defect was physical I don't buy anything else from HyperX Kingston and HP, I know they are the same company I cannot be left with a guarantee that is not a guarantee. I hope more people become aware of poor hyperx quality and guarantee.
As a Maschine user with a 7.1.4 Atmos studio, this is pure gold! 💯

Thanks a lot prof always informative and entertaining ;) I have virtuoso and my problem with it is the size of the buffer size to avoid cracks in the audio 2048 sample and still after short time I’m working start to crack ….annoying and at the end not reliable I’m on m3 MacBook Pro
Interesting! I am on an M2 MacBook Air and never had those issues. What is your setup?
@@michaelgwagnerthanks for the reply I'm on os sonoma 14.5 I use ableton live 12 with dolby atmos composer going to loopback and then to virtuoso
Make sure the device setup does not conflict. Switch out the output device in Ableton. I forgot if it has be the same as you use in the composer or a different one, but one of those can create issues.
Absolutely loving the way you teach. the pacing, the knowledge... the out of the ordinary topics in music (much appreciated)
Thanks, much appreciated!
There is no way I am paying 300$ for Atmos Renderer to get head tracking. I have the Mobius but they are so delicate. Hope headtracking works without buying Dolby Atmos Renderer but I am trying right now to see how sound has improved . Love the durability of them though
Someone needs to develop a speaker array mounted to drones. With one touch of a button they could assume the 7.1.4 position and then return to a dock just as easy.
😜
Super helpful video thanks.... just wondering how to go the other way... if you have an Atmos monitoring setup but want to create an Ambisonic mix? Do you have a video for that?
That’s an interesting request. Not sure if there’s much interest in that though.
@@michaelgwagner do you think it'd be better to map the Atmos speaker setup into the ambisonic decoder and just work in ambisonics on the Atmos speaker setup for ease?
Excellent video
Thanks! I’m kind of surprised that it is still accurate. ;)
Hey Michael, When setting the Ak_trigger_exit the sound gets stopped and doesn't play again when the player is in the sphere collider [trigger] ,in this video you have set the structure to be play_music [event] and Stop_music [event] sequentially, but for me, i set it up as Play_music{event] - Stop_music[event] and then again Play_music [event] ,only if i set it up like this I'm able to get the proper results. Secondly, when loading the event onto an object's inspector the sound doesn't play and gives me an 'unidentified I/O device error' so i tried to load the soundbank as well onto the objects inspector and not just keep it on wwise global. When set up like this I'm able to get the proper results as in the video. Thirdly, when I try to uncheck the AKambient component in the inspector the sound still plays, the sound only stops playing if I delete that component or change its trigger from Awake to nothing. I got the results that you have taught but in a different way is it because I'm using a different version from what you are using, But I did check the compatibility of my Unity and Wwise versions from the Wwise release notes article, and everything is appropriate.
Let me start by saying the AI programmers are the real AI artists. Some may consider that sacrilege, but I'm both a coder and a creative. I don't feel a qualitative difference between writing code and writing a novel. Problem solving, discovery, entering the 'zone' (sustained focus, adrenaline high, time warp), it's the same experience for me. Whether AI music is any good or not will be a matter of opinion. To me, EDM sounds empty and automatic, but humans do create EDM and millions of humans like EDM as much as I like my favorite musicians. What are the psychological effects on creatives, especially de-motivational effects? What motivates us to create, to aspire to 10,000 hours to master a craft? There is certainly a selfless desire to create beauty for others. But is the egotistical pursuit of elite achievement not also a big part of our motivation? When we shoot for 10,000 hours, are we trying to prove something to ourselves? Will AI deflate our egos and our motivational balloon? I do think the copyright laws need to be changed. AI developers should be banned from using public domain artworks to train AI. The idea behind public domain is that the artist has 70 years remuneration, enough to incentivize creation. If you seek immortality through art, you don't need royalties in perpetuity in your estate to achieve immortality. But the knowledge that your art will be eaten, digested, and crapped out by a neural processing unit after your lifetime, that's not immortality, that's spiritual rape. I think there is a real danger of a mental health crisis for artists.
Interesting points. I taught a class on the theory of programming languages once. it’s effectively an introduction to linguistics. Re copyright law, that ship has already sailed, I’m afraid.
@@michaelgwagner I really am feeling the 'why bother?' effect.
Welcome to Sprockets! Hey good video.
Thanks!
nice to see you using Decibel!
Yes, that’s a good one.
Not sure I can make the jump based on this. What about automation, sequencier and speaker calibration. I didn't really see anything more feature rich than the original renderer, actually it looks like it has less.
Well, it’s main draw is that it adds Atmos capabilities to DAWs that otherwise don’t allow that. The new version also has a master channel which you can use for masterbus processing.
