    Thank you for accommodating my request and speaking into the microphone from above. It occurs to me that if you do decide to branch out with an ASMR channel, you could use the sound coming from above to implement an S/M sub-channel 🙂. I was delighted to hear about the limitations of this mic since I just shelled out a thousand dollars for the Voyage Audio mic (which I am very happy with).

      😊 I have a second channel setup. Still empty though. 😂

    17:01 Although this output equivalency is ok to make in some situations (e.g. creating full surround ambience beds from a recording), it's limiting and it blurs the understanding of what the platform does. A more encompassing way of understanding the virtual microphones would be: a ZM-1 recording can be treated as an infinite coincidental mic array that can have its mics angles changed in any way after the fact. 'Record first, decide what to focus on afterwards' kind of thing.

      @michaelgwagner  Před 4 měsíci

      Correct. The only problem with that is that for this purpose the mic is too noisy.

    Nice review. I believe a limitation of the Zylia mic for ambisonics recording is spatial aliasing at high frequencies. The mic really would need to be half the size and have more channels to get enough mic density for a really good performanc.
    But, it’s still a unique product on the market.

    Thanks for such good info! We just buy it! Thanks for the plugin info because Zylia site does not show clear.

    I have my Zylia since quite a while and was a big fan of it, especially as the sound is nothing to sneeze at. But now as this horrible Micro USB connection started to get loose and doesn't hold reliable if not being fixated, I'm not so convinced anymore... To this comes Zylia's completely crazy pricing scheme for software and hardware. At the release of it the prize was around €500-€600, now it's more than double that. Not mentioning the 6DOF version which costs more than €7000, one microphone with some basic timecode functionality...

      Yes, the price difference between the two is a bit puzzling. 🤨

    well , for listening in stereo a quality stereo mic is still the best I think , to get the same quality in ambisonics array mic will drive the price exponentially no doubt .. but maybe for listening in true ambisonics or Atmos its more impressive .
    but its also an issue of the location , these type of mic should be used to record ambiance where it will produce more impressive results then stereo mic.

      Yes, that is correct. I will have another video about ambisonics field recording in a few weeks.

    Great video.. I am looking for a immersive audio mic for field recording and this helps figuring out the options availble..

    The USB transmission of this product is very inconvenient, and it is quite troublesome to achieve long-distance production. The manufacturer has no plans to upgrade the network transmission. What's worse is the poor low-frequency response.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, I agree. Fir this particular application the fact that it did not pick up a lot low frequency was actually an advantage.

    Missing a “d” at the end of the activate(d), and it needs to have at least 50m cable length, an appropriate connector would be an ethercon using cat7 or so…..

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, you’re correct, a network connection can be used to solve the length issue. Still an unnecessary workaround though.

      @@michaelgwagner I meant the microphone should have a n ethercon socket…

      There are USB over IP solutions that you can use. That’s what Zylia recommends.

      Hello, I now need a server for each microphone to run Via, but it does not support active and standby redundancy like Dante hardware devices. Are there any other AoIP methods to achieve long-distance transmission and backup?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Před 4 měsíci

      I have not looked into that myself. According to Zylia there are. You might need to contact Zylia.
