    @Michael G Wagner - I really appreciate your initiative to arrange a MPEG-H information-based discussion. This is really interesting. Thank you.

    12:00 minutes, the listening environment. Very good point. They don't tell you when they sell you these setups that you're going to have to substantially redesign your house to have an RTF that they systems can live with, or in the case of binaural about the inevitable headphone colouration.

      Yeah, I'm still not done with my basement studio renovation. :)

    Thanks for covering this. I've been experimenting with the MPEG-H authoring tools for about six months and it's really interesting and promising technology. It does seem though that to directly compare MPEG-H with Dolby Atmos is asking the wrong question, as they don't necessarily intend to serve the same outcomes or work the same way.

      That’s true. But it is often perceived that way. In the full interview on our podcast we talk a bit more about that.

    It's nice to know that the use of this codec will enhance the delivery of spacial audio. But how is the decode implemented? Will it be a firmware update on my receiver (or Smyth Realizer), or will those who want to hear it need to replace their equipment?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Před 6 měsíci

      Are you working with a Realizer? Nice!

      Yes, I recently upgraded from the 8 ,to the 16,. I can monitor my atmos and DTS-X encodes with it. I subsequently added Auro 3D decoding via firmware, but I haven't heard any Auro media (except for test media). I would love to hear that MPEG-H will be made available for it available via firmware!@@michaelgwagner

    MPEG-H has interesting use cases beyond spatial audio as well. Great to see this being discussed in such detail.

    So MPEG-H is like Atmos but with the benefit of interactivity? Cool thing! I definitely will have a closer look.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Před 6 měsíci

      Yannik would argue that MPEG-H is a codec and Dolby Atmos a brand. But from the consumer‘s/producer‘s perspective your observation is correct imho.

    Didn't the Franhaufer institute also develop Sony360?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Před 6 měsíci

      They did not devop it but it uses their technology.

      Imagine having to use three different to DAW's to deliver one mix... erm actually.. that's where we are at @@michaelgwagner Great comment on mix quality though, they all do sound like an afterthought and quality needs to change for more adoption
