@@Tailspin80 Ha ha ha what an honour! However please note that the changes to the rules don’t give pedestrians default priority. Pedestrians still have a responsibility. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code, specifically 7 (d). Before crossing Pedestrians must stop, look, IF TRAFFIC IS COMING THEN LET IT PASS (road traffic has priority), and wait for a safe gap before crossing. Sadly too many people have misunderstood the changes to think they can walk into the road at any point and they have priority. Not a great idea…

@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 Your cycling is pretty good in terms of stopping at lights, zebras etc. I just think you’re not paying much attention to pedestrians who are or might step out in front of you. Under the current rules the pedestrians coming from the right at 2:05 would have priority and you would be expected to stop. Earlier where the phone zombie walks out in front of you it would have been good awareness to have seen it coming and make it a non event. Pedestrians come above all other road users because not only are they more vulnerable but may be blind, deaf, children, people who don’t speak English and/or have never read the Highway Code. The Highway Code provides rules, but then adds guidance to other parties to be aware that the rule might be broken, with the idea that it takes two faults to cause an accident. Even the rules at green traffic lights is to proceed if your path is clear, but a red light jumper can’t use that rule against you.

@@Tailspin80 I’ve very alert when cycling, you look closely at my videos and you can see I have two fingers on both brake levers at near all times. I’m looking ahead and anticipating, this is why my videos are full of misses. Central London had literally millions of pedestrians commuting each day, so there are always pedestrians who might step out. The bulk don’t, but you have to find the balance of making progress whilst anticipating those who don’t look. As with many rules/laws, ignorance is no excuse, most nations have schemes to train children road safety from a young age. Parents have a duty to their children to also do this. No adult has an excuse to walk out into a road without looking. And handicapped people I’ve observed over the years are extremely careful and use the tools and systems available to cross safely. Most of the issues I have are with ignorant/self important/absorbed people who can’t be bothered to look, then blame everyone else.

@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 Tbh the general standard of driving, cycling and pedestrian behaviour is so bad in London it’s hard to point the finger. But there are definitely a few incidents where you have decided to keep going at full speed and hope it works out knowing that you probably won’t be blamed if it doesn’t, probably with the aim of teaching people a lesson, reprimanding them and creating content! 0:28 You overtake another bike passing very close when it’s obvious he’s about to do the same, meaning that you’re riding three abreast and out of the cycle lane 2:15 Pedestrians everywhere and it’s highly likely they will step out in front of you but hey, just keep going and shout at them 3:40 Going all over the place including the wrong side of an island to get past emergency vehicles. Aren’t we just supposed to stop and let them do their job? 3:56 Overtaking on zig-zag lines and/or past a junction, neither of which is allowed 4:07 Entering a cross hatched area when your exit was not clear, even if the Merc shouldn’t have been there but compounding his problems 4:45 Riding 5 abreast. Rule 66 states a maximum of 2 abreast. I did the Ride London 100 back in May. The event was fine (apart from nearly being taken out by a cyclist who dropped her phone and shot across my bows), but the scariest bit was the half hour ride on open roads across London to get back to my car. It’s a total free for all compared to the semi rural roads I’m used to in Hertfordshire.

@@Tailspin80 Firstly why on earth would I want a crash?! In any crash I’m very likely to be injured, break an arm etc. Trust me I have no desire for that. As for content, I commute on the cycle every week, I could put up videos every week if I wanted to (as you mention, no shortage of incidents in London). Look how infrequently I post. I put these videos up primarily to warn other cyclists what to look out for in Central London. If non cyclists watch, and think to look out for cyclists a little more then that’s great. That’s it, when I’m cycling I do nothing for content. My goal is to get to and from work safely each day and that’s it, and thankfully I’ve managed that over the last 20 years. And to your various points, yes London is busy and chaotic and all you can do is pick your way through it safely as you can.

@@briankerrison8504 What about rule 74? The hierarchy was brought in after I released this video, however I don’t believe I would have breached it even if it was in place at the time of this cycle.

I saw a vid put up by cycling mick..he showed footage of him behind a van which was signalling to turn left..the turn was halted by a jogger crossing vans path.. muck seems to think van driver should not made turn & waited for him to pass.. you’d have to watch vid.,& listen to comments Mick made..I thought mick was in the wrong & dramatising the event 🤔🤔😎

@@briankerrison8504 I’ve seen some of his videos before, though not the one you mention. The Highway Code changed a few years back. It used to be, if you were turning into a side road and a pedestrian had already started to cross, you had to give way. They’ve now strengthened this, so even if the pedestrians haven’t started to cross, if they are waiting to cross, you must give way. Perhaps in the video you saw the Ban had turned and not given way to pedestrians waiting to cross?

@@bestbehave Yeah, that’s certainly not helping. These days see loads of the green Lime hire bikes left inconsiderately blocking the pavement too.

@@Secretariat1964 I indicate where required, in the second clip you can see my hand returning after indicating. However I need both hands back on the handlebars for turning and lots of these clips start as I’m already turning. And no, it’s not that fast, I’m slower than the speed limit, and slower than the traffic when it’s not held up. GoPro just makes it look faster. You not hear that car beeping at me midway through as I was in his way, that’s because cycles are slower than motor vehicles.

@@darrenwallis7630 Have a read of the Highway code, where there’s an island in the middle it’s considered two Zebra crossings, and I was passed before the lady reached the island, I never held her up one bit. You’re clutching at straws Darren. Rule 20 of the Highway Code: “Where there is an island in the middle of a zebra crossing, wait on the island and follow Rule 19 before you cross the second half of the road - it is a separate crossing.” Also, from rule 19: “Zebra crossings. Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time when the road is slippery. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing. REMEMBER THAT TRAFFIC DOES NOT HAVE TO STOP UNTIL SOMEONE HAS MOVED ONTO THE CROSSING. Drivers and riders should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross”

@@michaelemusic1953 No, my speed is not the cause of these issues. I’m cycling below the speed limits, and paying full attention, this is why my videos are full of misses and not accidents. I’m travelling at a safe speed allowing me to stop for/avoid all of these incidents. The cause of these issues are pedestrians/drivers who have not paid attention before stepping/pulling out into the road/changing lanes etc. I see many commenters on here, deflecting from the real issue and trying to victim shame cyclists. Cyclists are far slower, and far less dangerous than motor vehicles. Motor vehicles kill 450-500 pedestrians annually in the UK, cyclists less than one pedestrian per year on average. A recent government study showed that 86% of drivers admit to speeding in 20mph zones. As 80% of new cars sold these days are 2 tonne+ SUV’s which are 8 times more likely to kill a child in an accident vs. a typical saloon, the fact that so many are speeding is more worrying. Today, pretty much all the roads in Central London are 20mph. I ride a heavy, single speed bike with two pannier bags, so my max speed in the flat Central London is 20mph, and most of the time I’m between 10-15mph. I constantly experience motor vehicles flying past me at 25mph + in the 20mph zones. Yet so many hypocrites comment here, blaming cyclists for being “too fast” whilst 86% regularly speed in their faster, heavier, more deadly SUVs. Plus they’ll beep at any cyclist in front of them, scream at us to “get back in your cycle lane” as, whilst we’re “too fast”, we’re also “too slow” when holding them up, funny that! Pedestrians have a duty to look before stepping into the road. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code, specifically 7 (d). Before crossing, pedestrians must stop, look, if traffic is coming (including cyclists) let it pass, and wait for a safe gap to cross. Roads are dangerous, they are designed for traffic to move faster than walking pace. If you are going to complain that the least dangerous users of the roads are too fast, whilst being slower than the speed limit, then you need to lobby to reduce the speed limit for ALL road traffic. Think how few accidents there would be in towns/cities if the speed limit was 5mph for ALL traffic. Ridiculous suggestion though as society would grind to a halt, but you get the point. The speed of the cyclists is not the issue, the issue causing these incidents are pedestrians and drivers not looking, not following the rules, and your attempt to blame cyclists is a cheap deflection from this. Everyone (including cyclists who I see running reds and cycling on pavements) needs to follow the rules instead of trying to point the finger at others. Take some personal responsibility!

@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007I cycle but I don’t cycle like you. If you fly along narrow cycle lanes with stationary cars in close proximity things will go wrong - pedestrians walking out from behind cars, car doors opening, etc. The Highway Code has rules which generally mean that (a) you should avoid doing something and (b) you should look out for someone breaking rule (a). In other words accidents happen when both parties don’t follow the rules. If you go racing around assuming everyone else is perfect then an accident will occur if another party makes a mistake and your reactions fail to save the day. The video was posted 5 years ago, but in January 2022 new rules were added to the Highway Code, notably: People cycling are asked to: - not pass people walking … closely or at high speed, particularly from behind - slow down when necessary and let people walking know they are there (for example, by ringing their bell) Some of the driving was appalling and I know from experience difficult to anticipate and deal with, for example the vehicles coming into the cycle lane at 0:50 and 4:20. I’m 25 miles out from central London where things are a LOT quieter and better behaved!

@@Tailspin80 I’m not flying around or racing. I’m cycle commuting into work travelling below the speed limit. This sort of terminology is incorrectly blaming cyclists for when other road users ignore the rules. I have zero desire/motivation to have an incident. If you look at my videos you can see that I have two fingers on each brake lever at near all times. I’m very cautious which is why my videos are full of misses, not crashes. @@deemauk2591 Please quote the section of the Highway Code that states that pedestrians “have right of way over everything”? Whilst you are reading the Highway Code, please read rule 7, specifically 7(d). Rule 7 and it’s subsections state that pedestrians, before crossing, must stop, look, if traffic is coming let it pass (road traffic has right of way), and wait for a safe gap before crossing.

@@shaunkirby7788 Zero, I rarely report to the police. I have a couple of times on the more sever incidents. However the police don’t seem to have the time/budget to investigate and it goes no further.

If I was still in London I would. It used to fire me up so much for the day - commuting by car nowadays I arrive tired and grumpy. I was a mad cyclist though, headphones in, no cares. Not sure how I didn't die.

Thank you, nice to see somebody with perspective commenting on here. Most comments I get are typically from people who are very anti-cyclist, who feel my existence on my cycle, on the road is a clear indication of fault. 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️ Tis standard London fare and the best way I find is to just deal with it and move on. Very little point arguing with people as it doesn’t benefit anyone. Most of my yells are just a warning to someone who hasn’t seen me. Keep safe out there 👍🏻
