This is incorrect, technically I don’t believe there is a speed limit for pedal cycles, but sticking to the road speed limit is advised. You may be referencing the law for electric bikes that the electrical engine is not allowed to power the bike to more than 15mph, however if the cyclist has the power in their legs to drive the electric bike to more than 15mph (once the electrical assistance cuts out) then they are legally allowed to travel faster. You do see people who have removed the restricter on their electric bikes and are using the electrical power to go over 15mph, that is illegal. Hope this clears that up. 👍🏻
Dude, while that guy at 2:38 didn't look, he had right of way under Rule 170 of the highway code... "watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way"... So as much as you want to have a moan, please be aware of the rules before you do ;-)
I'm aware of that rule. There's a bit of a chicken and egg situation here though. The Highway Code also says that pedestrians must look before crossing, let oncoming traffic pass and wait for a safe gap. The rule you mentioned states "if they had started to cross". When I turned in, this chap was still on the pavement and hadn't started to cross. The onus is on him to look before he started to cross, if he did so he'd have seen that I was already turning in and he should wait before starting to cross. From experience, I knew that there was a risk he wouldn't look, and I was ready for that and stopped for him. It's a shame that people don't look, it takes very little effort, is essential for safety and should be basic common sense. Such is life. Have a great Easter.
I agree, his foot was firmly in the road before you crossed the white line. The duty of care should fall on the less vulnerable road user to protect the more vulnerable road user... Pedestrian > Cyclist > Motorcyclist > Motorist (Horses fit in there somewhere but that's a different kettle of fish)...
@@peterjohnson9077 Firstly and most importantly, I stopped for him and waited for him to pass. So there's no issue beyond him not looking. The code also says that pedestrians must stop, look and wait for a safe gap before starting to cross. This chap did not do that. These are all rules as written in the code, I've not changed anything. A light I would have gone through on green if I hadn’t had to slow for pedestrians ignoring the red figure: Rule 22 of the Highway Code: “When the red figure shows, do not cross. When a steady green figure shows, check the traffic has stopped then cross with care.” And also rule 7d regarding crossing the road: “If traffic is coming, let it pass. Look all around again and listen. Do not cross until there is a safe gap in the traffic and you are certain that there is plenty of time. Remember, even if traffic is a long way off, it may be approaching very quickly.” As it was the light changed amber a split second before I went through. Please learn these rules and learn how to cross the road safely. 🙂👍🏻
Tell me about it. 90% of the time I can guarantee I'll catch up with the red light runners. Such a pointless exercise, especially given that it gives cyclists such a bad name.
The only instance where that is true, is if you as a vehicle are turning into a side road and a pedestrian has already started to cross, then they have right of way. All other times they don't, and the road traffic does. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code; C Look all around for traffic and listen. Traffic could come from any direction. Listen as well, because you can sometimes hear traffic before you see it. D If traffic is coming, let it pass. Look all around again and listen. Do not cross until there is a safe gap in the traffic and you are certain that there is plenty of time. Remember, even if traffic is a long way off, it may be approaching very quickly. The road traffic has right of way, the pedestrian should not have started crossing until there was a safe gap, the cyclists is the traffic which is coming and they have to let it pass and wait for a safe gap.

UK is strange, I mean in terms of that bicycles apparently have to always follow the lights... I don't see a problem with bicycles keep going when the way is clear, not sure why one would be annoyed by it... For that matter, in certain situations, I don't see a problem with cars ruining red lights ( *if* they're really careful and know for sure the way is clear). Although in case of cars this is still more dangerous, since they weight tons of kilograms...
I think it's best that everyone wait at the red, there's always a chance someone will get it wrong if not and collide with a pedestrian. I find that I pretty much always catch up with the cycles that run the reds, at the next junction. There's always a red that you can't run as it's a busy major junction etc and everyone collects there. So there's not much benefit to running the red anyway. Have a great week. 🙂👍

Aggressive, car, lorry, pedestrians and cyclists. I can see why there are so many accidents. You can’t lay blame on any individual road user. So much arrogance from all and no respect for everyone else.
Because we're harder to see. I have my lights blinking even in the day, yet people still don't see me. Flashing lights catch the attention more than solid lights.
If you ever want evidence that cyclists think they own the road here it is. Be interesting to see how things shape up with the new Highway Code, cyclists come SECOND to pedestrians with those changes. With no way of identifying them, I doubt they will change. "Out the way I'm coming through".
The new rules don’t change rule 7 for pedestrians, especially 7 D. Have a read of it, you can’t just walk out into the road in front of traffic. The new rules even specify: The hierarchy places those road users most at risk in the event of a collision at the top of the hierarchy. It does not remove the need for everyone to behave responsibly. It’s important that all road users: - are aware of The Highway Code - are considerate to other road users - understand their responsibility for the safety of others I don’t think I own the road, just ask pedestrians and other road users to follow the rules. 🙂👍🏻
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 Thing is Sir is that even in your video there are pedestrians already in the road and with your claxon and shouting at them you will in future be breaking the law. Good manners should have prevailed in the past anyway. Even if a pedestrian is stood at the side of the road waiting to cross you must (even cyclists) stop to let them. The streets of London are not a race track for cyclists.
@@nearlythere9443 I’m also already in the road, pedestrians should wait for a safe gap before crossing. We expect our children to undeserving this, so should adults. I’m not racing, the cars are much faster than the cycles. I’m well below the speed limit. The new rules (my video predates these) relate to junctions only, when you are turning into that junction. If when you are turning into a junction you can see pedestrians waiting to cross that road, you should give way. That’s the new ruling (before you only needed to give way if they’d already started to cross). I will, as I always have, follow the rules. I ask others to do the same.
@@nearlythere9443 Rule 195 is for Zebra crossings, where in my video did you see me not give way to a pedestrian at a Zebra crossing? Bulk of the pedestrians in my video are wandering out in the middle of the road, not at a crossing, so I refer you back to rule 7d. For those at light operated crossings have a read of rule 22: “When the red figure shows, do not cross” You can’t just ignore these rules because it doesn’t suit your agenda. This is why the brand new hierarchy rules state that you still have to follow the rules and act responsibly. Please take care yourself and never believe the myth that as a pedestrian you can just walk out wherever and whenever you like without looking. That’s dangerous, always look and wait for a safe gap before crossing. 🙂👍🏻
Firstly, in the first two clips you see me overtaken by a van and lorry, are they travelling at a dangerous speed? Point is, I'm cycling at a speed well below the speed limit, and slower than the road traffic when it's not congested. The GoPro makes it look faster than it is. I average 10-15 mph. Secondly, as to "none of the motorists did nothing wrong", just in the first minute: 00:30, car pulls out of a side road without checking it's clear and nearly wipes out the cyclist in front of me. 00:40, motorbike performs an illegal U-turn on a main road and uses the cycle lane to do so, forcing me to brake. 00:50, work van turns across me and forces me to slam on the brakes, should have waited for a clear gap. If you pulled any of these manoeuvres on your driving test you'd be instantly fail. These are all examples of bad driving and against the rules of the Highway Code.
I’m following the rules and looking where I’m going, all I’m asking is for others to do the same. If pedestrians walked out on drivers as much as the do for cycles don’t you think drivers would be getting mad, leaning on their horns, shouting out their windows etc.
Pedestrians and drivers don’t own the roads either. How about they slow down and take the time to look and wait for a safe gap before walking out or pulling a manoeuvre!

I have 6 lights on my bike and a hi-vis none of them are flashing it doesn't make a difference you're just pissing off more people by having them flashing
I thought cycles weren’t aloud to go over 15mph ???
Ryan Sedgwick .theres no chicken and egg, pedestrian was right on this occasion, don't move the bar to suit yourself
Secondly, my point is that the Code says that you must give way for pedestrians who are have started to cross when you turn. At the point I turned he had not started to cross.
The code also says that pedestrians must stop, look and wait for a safe gap before starting to cross. This chap did not do that. These are all rules as written in the code, I've not changed anything. I had already signalled and started my turn before this guy even got to the edge of the pavement. The road was clear at that point. This guy ignored the rules, and I gave way for him.

You can't just stride across the road whenever you like when traffic is approaching. Pedestrians have plenty of crossings and signals. When they deliberately ignore them, they are putting their lives at risk and have no right to slow down road users with their stupidity.

Through an amber light and rides towards pedestrians
A light I would have gone through on green if I hadn’t had to slow for pedestrians ignoring the red figure:
Rule 22 of the Highway Code: “When the red figure shows, do not cross. When a steady green figure shows, check the traffic has stopped then cross with care.”
And also rule 7d regarding crossing the road:
“If traffic is coming, let it pass. Look all around again and listen. Do not cross until there is a safe gap in the traffic and you are certain that there is plenty of time. Remember, even if traffic is a long way off, it may be approaching very quickly.”
As it was the light changed amber a split second before I went through.
Please learn these rules and learn how to cross the road safely. 🙂👍🏻
This is my favourite boomer cyclist
Always great to see when you catch up to red light runners, really shows the risk was worth it ;)
Tell me about it. 90% of the time I can guarantee I'll catch up with the red light runners. Such a pointless exercise, especially given that it gives cyclists such a bad name.
And I thought N.Y.C was bad...... please stay safe.
You too my friend. 🙂👍🏻
Here's a really big hint. When pedestrians are crossing the road in front of you, they have right of way.
The only instance where that is true, is if you as a vehicle are turning into a side road and a pedestrian has already started to cross, then they have right of way.
All other times they don't, and the road traffic does. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code;
C Look all around for traffic and listen.
So a really big hint for you, have a read of the Highway Code! You don't know the rules as well as you think you do! 😉
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 - I think you should look at rules 204 - 210 of the higjhway code.

I guess bicycling in London there is much more of a (fast) transportation, much more "serious" so to speak. I live in Padua, and here sport bicycles are only used in free time, kind of very different situations (probably London is much more populated, that's why).
I like how, I believe Eugene D., thinks: as long as one makes sure to not endanger himself or others - it's ok to run the red lights, for any type of vehicle and/or pedestrians.
Thank you, you too, have a nice life.

@Donkavision Exactly, to see they first have to look and many fail that right out of the gate! Keep safe out there my friend. 🙂👍
The new rules even specify:
The hierarchy places those road users most at risk in the event of a collision at the top of the hierarchy. It does not remove the need for everyone to behave responsibly.
It’s important that all road users:
- are aware of The Highway Code
- are considerate to other road users
- understand their responsibility for the safety of others
I don’t think I own the road, just ask pedestrians and other road users to follow the rules.
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 Read Rule 195.
For those at light operated crossings have a read of rule 22:
“When the red figure shows, do not cross”
You can’t just ignore these rules because it doesn’t suit your agenda. This is why the brand new hierarchy rules state that you still have to follow the rules and act responsibly.
Please take care yourself and never believe the myth that as a pedestrian you can just walk out wherever and whenever you like without looking. That’s dangerous, always look and wait for a safe gap before crossing. 🙂👍🏻
Makes me appreciate that 90% of my journey is cycle superhighway
It's so much better on the superhighway! 👍
From watching the clip none of the motorists did nothing wrong. However you were cycling at a very dangerous speed throughout. Please slow down!
Secondly, as to "none of the motorists did nothing wrong", just in the first minute:
00:30, car pulls out of a side road without checking it's clear and nearly wipes out the cyclist in front of me.
Cyclists getting mad everytime they have to slow down
I’m following the rules and looking where I’m going, all I’m asking is for others to do the same.
If pedestrians walked out on drivers as much as the do for cycles don’t you think drivers would be getting mad, leaning on their horns, shouting out their windows etc.
love these videos
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. 🙂👍
Cyclist is at fault , just slow down you don't own the road period.
