    I'm so glad I switched to a dutch bike. I get to wear my normal clothes, and the shape of the bike makes my cycle feel so much less like a race/chore. I'm less agitated at other people if they don't cycle perfectly, I get to relax more, instead of being all attentive and stressed. Which is how cycling in cities should be!

      In London I see a lot of people riding Lime hire bikes. These are Dutch style upright bikes with electrical assistance, ideal for casual riders. However these do not have the calming effect you mention as Lime bike riders are typically homicidal/suicidal maniacs, often blasting through red lights, swerving onto pavements, playing with their phones as they ignore all rules and safety. It’s not the style of bike…

      @@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 Yes, but those are pay per minute bicycles which obviously incentivises rule breaking! Do you really see mass rule breaking by people on their own Dutch bikes?
      Besides, the reason for bad cycling imo is the (lack of) infrastructure. 99% of London roads still force bikes to act like cars. But bicycles cannot comfortably have car-centric rules and infra applied to them. Its silly at best, and deadly at worst. Traffic lights are for cars at the end of the day, bikes and peds would be able to cross a no-light 4-way junction seamlessly without cars.
      The best thing to do is once again the Dutch way where you completely seperate bikes from cars and peds so well that you can bike across Amsterdam without even having to stop.

    I think the nose out is in some cases for visibility, particularly with cyclists who are positioned close to the curb. There was one with railings and another with a tree which look like it was obscuring their view.

    I cycle to work from Richmond to the City along much of the same route shown...I chose to cycle in very early (leave home at 5.30am) and also leave work early afternoon - with the exception of pedestrians on the ride home (mainly tourists around Westminster / Embankment) makes for a much faster and less stressful ride and even more so now there is additional fair weather/ summer cycle traffic

    Great to see you posting videos again. Have to agree with the comments about other cyclists jumping lights and cars nosing out. My observation is that he nosing out seems to have increased with the increase in cycle lanes. Out of interest, what video res and FPS are you recording in?

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007  Před rokem +1

      The nosing out is always a worry as the cars are often creeping forward as you pass, and you’re never sure if they have seen you so wary incase they pull out right in front of you.
      This is an old GoPro 3+ Black edition. I film in super widescreen at 1080p at 60fps.

      @@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 Thanks for the info. Where do you store you videos after taking them. I have a DJI Action 3 which I love. I have a 256GB card and it fills up very quickly. You either have to edit them daily or store them somewhere. I have to admit, cycling 4 or 5 time a week, I do not get anything like the type of interesting footage that you do. I guess that is not a bad thing. Enjoy the summer of riding

    Been commuting to work in central london since 2015. If there is one thing that experience has taught me, its to beware of other cyclists and always treat them the same way you treat motorised vehicles on the road - be cautious around them and give them an extremely wide berth until there is enough space to safely overtake them little risk of them pulling out directly into your path and wiping you both out. Ive come across so many people on bikes that have their heads and eyes glued on forwards and never shoulder check... Stay behind them until you can pass safely.
    Lots of people have no road etiquette what so ever.

    Finally - filtering as you did through that mess is dangerous, why not just hold back? Seems to me you’re very critical and impatient with other road users but don’t think about your own actions

    • @QuincyLDN
      @QuincyLDN Před rokem

      I disagree on your point regarding the filtering. He filtered nicely, as is allowed and clearly possible. The point of having a bicycle is not only fitness, but also to get through traffic faster whereas cars would be stuck (per the video). As a Dutch cyclist living in London, I can tell that Ryan is a very responsible and sensible cyclist. He’s doing pretty well despite poor cycling infrastructure in the UK. I would’ve done the same thing.

  • @eddjcaine
    @eddjcaine Před rokem +5

    First comment - you saw the lime bike, you didn’t slow down, and undertook him on the left, knowing he was turning left. You should have held back and not actively tried to cause an accident

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007  Před rokem +1

      He’s pulling out from the other side of the road, priority is with me, he has to wait for a safe gap before pulling into the Eastbound lane. He looked directly at me so I expected that, as he’d seen me he’d follow the rules. Instead he cut me up, thankfully for him I was ready to take avoiding action so there was no incident.

    • @eddjcaine
      @eddjcaine Před rokem

      @@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 priority is given, not taken - he was in the right hand lane and you joined him there. It’s scary that you think just because you have what you believe to be “priority” that you can barrel on regardless. Let people in, give them space, avoid incidents rather than riding full pelt into them. Idiot.

      There are plenty of bad cyclists out there, but those that cycle the hire bikes like these Lime bikes often seem to have very little experience or awareness, plus the electric assist means they accelerate quickly from zero meaning inexperienced cyclists can get themselves into trouble very quickly. Plus they tend to leave the cycles in the most stupid places blocking roads and paths. I wish the companies/authorities would do more to combat such bad behaviour!
