Running GEAR Oil in an ENGINE!!! (EXTREME PRESSURE)
Can you use Gear Oil in an Engine? Let's Find out!
Most people believe that Gear Oil is much thicker than Engine Oil, and putting it in an engine would destroy the motor. So I put that theory to the test. I check oil pressure with 20W-50 Engine Oil and 75W-85 Gear Oil in the engine. Then I perform some Project Farm/Engineering Explained Lab Experiments to reinforce the Oil Pressure Experiments.
The Results Might Surprise You!

    i think the point of a flush is to flush the oil for a better drain.. not flush/clean the engine.. the additive thins the oil, does some cleaning, but its the thinning that prevents the little bit of dirty oil that just remains stuck inside.. That residual oil shouldnt contaminate the new one.. A mineral density test would be more indicative of a difference..

    • @freedomworx
      @freedomworx Před 15 hodinami

      The point of an engine flush is do dissolve engine deposits and "Flush" them out with the oil. Thinner oil is just a byproduct of the solvents used to dissolve the engine deposits.

    The best engine flush is regular oil changes and filters. My 1989 Toyota 22 R had 401.000 miles on it And i had to repair a valve retainer after a missed downshift and the tach hitting 7 k at 375, 000 miles so I opened it up and it looked like it was just built. The machine shop asked me if it was a lightly used head. I used Quaker state 10 30 weight conventional and oem oil filters changed religiously at 3k miles it`s whole life. I bought it new broke it in properly for 1000 miles then at 1001 miles took it out and redlined it 3 or 4 times to let it get acquainted to my right foot LOL.

    • @freedomworx
      @freedomworx Před 14 hodinami

      @tristanlasley8030 but does that matter? That’s what people fail to actually think about. You don’t need oil pressure for the engine to be properly lubricated for a short period of time, especially at idle. There is always residual oil on engine bearing surfaces. My Duramax can take 3 or 4 seconds to build oil pressure on a normal cold start. Yet it has 190k miles in it, thousands of cold starts, and no excessive wear metals when I have the oil analyzed. Many small engines do t even have oil pumps, and spend their entire lives with Zero oil pressure. But I have a great test coming up to demonstrate this. 👍

      @tristanlasley8030 Před 13 hodinami

      Hmm, I can't really argue against evidence, can't wait for your vid. I'm just getting into all this. Ps. Just went and searched, couldn't find anything about engines with no oil pressure, that properly lubricate as well, everything points to lack of oil pressure means increased heat and friction between the contact surfaces.

      @tristanlasley8030 Před 12 hodinami

      @@freedomworxdoes the Duramax at idle use it's gears to lubricate? Idk diesels but I know that's how transmissions lubricate but they have way more gears with tighter tolerances.

    I own a 1998 Dodge 2500 with the 24 valve Cummins diesel, and the NVG-4500 5 speed manual transmission. This transmission requires a very specific lubricant, Castrol Syntorq 75W85 GL4, probably the same or very similar to what you used in this video. I was very surprised at how thin this product was, because in the older Ford pickups I owned in the 1970's and 80's, with the Borg-Warner T-18, the oil used was 90W-140 (also used in most outboard boat motor lower ends), and that lube pours like molasses. But the Syntorque does it's job: I've towed an 8,500 pound boat and trailer almost 10,000 miles on several long road trips, and the transmission still works like new at 106,000 miles. The reason that newer vehicles with manual transmissions use the thin oil, is that it produces less fuel-robbing friction, and it has special additives that greatly increase it's ability to pull heat away from the gears and synchronizers, and transfer that heat to the atmosphere through the case (especially with aluminum transmission housings). This is especially a valuable feature in heavy-duty truck transmissions, where internal heating while towing heavy trailers can be a problem.

    If your filtering at 2 micron, your going to filter the additives out of the oil. The molybdenum disulfide AMS oil uses has a larger molecule size than that. It's like their engineers don't even know their own products. Also, oil analysis only tells you if there is metallic contamination present, it doesn't tell you how much the oil has broken down. Your going to destroy your engine or, at the very least, cause tons of unnecessary wear.

      A dual remote that houses the full flow and the bypass is different. You want the full flow as close to the original location as possible. Amsoil specifically states that in the instructions. If it's just a remote bypass filter, you can put it anywhere you'd like.

    Уважаемый Вы неправы. Очистить масло можно достаточно сильно и хорошо установив дополнительно к Полнопоточнику и Байпаснику Центрифужный масляный фильтр. Обратитесь в компанию Cummins Flitguard!

      You can filter it better with a centrifuge, but 99.9% (exact number) of diesels aren't filtered with a centrifuge. I'm not wrong, I'm simply explaining the reality of the vast majority of engines in use. If every engine was required to use a centrifuge filter, things would be different. But they aren't. Diesels hold more oil for the exact reasons that I stated. I could make the argument that you could easily drive an EV on a 5000 mile road trip....If there were enough charging stations along the way. But there are not. Thus, you cannot easily drive an EV on a 5000 mile roadtrip. Reality vs the Idealistic state🤷‍♂️

      @@SkBPerformance I have no idea how the oil is doing. I haven’t pulled the dipstick since the install 😂. It’s getting close to time to send a sample off, so it’s probably about time to make sure there is still oil on the stick 😉. But I’ve never needed to add oil a single time between oil changes in 185k miles. I didn’t even know John Candy was from Canadia!

      @@freedomworx love me a cummins, but aint a thing wrong with a dirtymax. At 620,000 kms on my 12v its not going to hurt me to install that setup and maybe one on the transmission line also with a secondary cooler. Look forward to the oil update. Mix in some poutine for a mechnical food review crossamalgamation creation. Lol.

    New subscriber!! Have a 381,000 plus mile LLY.Recieved new Bosch injectors and a Fass 100 today. I have always bought the 150 or 165pump and truck would start loping a little. Soni would have to remove the ball ans spring and cut 1 to 1 and half coil off of the spring to lower the psi sent to the engine. Duramaxs like to see about 5 to 7 psi without the loping issue! Awesome video!!

      Thanks for the support. Yeah, some Duramax engines are more picky about lift pump pressure than others. My LBZ idles just fine though 👍
