  • The 350 Small Block in the Square Body Service Truck has a fresh cylinder finish from my Flex-Hone 240 Grit Brush Hone. The block was then degreased with purple ZEP, then given a thurough bath with hot soapy water, with all the oil galley, lifter bores, etc... being cleaned with my Mr. Gasket Engine Brush Kit. The block was dried with a leaf blower, and the machined surface were then coated with oil or WD-40. I set the King SI Crank Bearings in place and checked the clearance with some green Plastigage. With the oil clearance verified, I removed the Plastigage and applied Permatex Ultra-Slick Assembly Lube to the main bearings, and torqued them down using ARP Ultra-Torque on the bolts. Motor Oil is fine, as that's what most torque specs are calculated with on these old small blocks. 70ft-lb for the inner bolts, and 65ft-lb for the outer bolts. Start in the center and work your way out. Seat each cap lightly with a rubber mallet or deadblow hammer pry to applying any torque to the main cap bolts. Otherwise you risk snapping the ear off of a cap and having to JB Weld it back together like me. Which...that'll be fine...probably.
Sick Week is right around the corner and I need to rebuild the 350 small block, upgrade the clutch, rebuild the SM465 Transmission, install a Yukon Locker into the GM 14-Bolt rear end, install the Mishimoto Radiator and Electric Fans, wire in the MSD 6-BTM, and all the AutoMeter gauges. This Square Body is an awful choice for a drag race vehicle... but it'll look cool going down the strip...slowly. I have a pile of parts from Summit Racing and the Amazon...and not a lot of time to get them installed! So let's get to work!

@@freedomworx I got my certificate way before CZcams was handing them out. Lack of funds and the need to get to work Monday morning was a great motivator back in the day.

I guess when you don't have an electric or torch welder a JB welder is the second best way to get er done? I like it! LOL Subscribed.

I actually have Mig, Tig, and Stick. Just didn’t want to put a bunch of heat into the cap. It would have run fine without it even there.

Took a different truck. Didn’t race. Drank Beer. Had fun 😂. Truck was running fine, but my copilot got sick so I just made a vacation out of it.
