Why Is Diesel More Expensive Than Gasoline?

- So why dose DIESEL really cost more than gas or petrol? It supply and demand, not a conspiracy.
1. Yes, the production cost of diesel increased in 2006 as the EPA mandated Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), which reduced the acceptable sulfur limit in Diesel, for 500ppm to 15ppm. This greatly reduced harmful emissions, but also reduced lubricity and energy content.
2. Yes, the DOT does mandate a $0.06 higher Excise Tax per gallon of Diesel, because heavy trucks do most of the damage to roads and bridges, and heavy trucks use diesel.
3. But the main reason that Diesel costs more than gasoline or petrol, is supply and demand. Refining of crude oil yields 2 gallons of gas for every one gallon of diesel, so the supply of gas is much higher. At the same time the demand for diesel remains high, and increases as world economies do better, because the economy is fueled by diesel. Additionally, diesel and heating oil both come from the same cut in the distillation process, so when the demand for heating oil goes up, so does the price of diesel.
And unfortunately for everyone who doesn't appreciate or enjoy the diesel life, they still have to pay the price, because the price of diesel influences the price of basically everything we consume on this planet. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I learned nothing. Just stared at bacon with... Duct tape on it? Wtf is that? - my stupid brain that can't actually focus on what's needed.
This was clearly explained. Great video.
Never thought I’d need to Duck Tape a piece of bacon back together. But there I was, living the dream 😂
There is an absurd level of freedom oriented undertones to this channel. BASED.

Between alcohol destroying gas (and the engines that use it) and ULSD destroying puel injection pumps on formerly reliable diesels,.... we're all going to be walking, soon.
Imma buy a donkie 😂
I bought my first diesel truck back in 2004, a 2004.5 GMC LLY Duramax, a awesome engine, should have kept that one! At that time, diesel was about a dollar cheaper per gallon compared to gas. Wouldn't ya know it, after about 1 year, diesel shot up to a dollar more per gallon than gas. Sorry guys, I know it was my fault, should have not bought a diesel because this crap happens to me every time! Hey, maybe I should buy an EV, then they will stop making them!! Gonna have to ponder that one for a bit!
Yeah part of that price increase was from the mandate for ULSD fuel in 2006. I’ve got 2 EVs myself…kids Go Karts 🤓
I knew we were going to be friends. We wear the same kind of hat.
Gotta keep them from reading my brain waves 👀
@@freedomworx if only they’d listen to your thoughts and fix this shit show they got going on.
@@HammerWrench Jamin for President 2024! 😂
Don't forget Jet fuel, it is basically high-grade diesel. Also, with ULSD refineries had to add more sulfur plants to meet the new regulations. More plants cost more money to run.
Jet fuel is basically kerosene. It's lighter than diesel. Kerosene molecules have 12-15 Carbon molecules while diesel has 16 or more. Kerosene has better cold temp characteristics but less lubricity than diesel. During the distilling process, kerosene will boil off before diesel does.👍
I remember when refining you get more low quality fuels like diesel compared toto gasoline now it’s the opposite
It a supply a demand thing. Heavier fuels like diesel can be cut down into lighter fuels. Can go the other way though. So the market dictates the percentages to an extent. 👍

What are you saying about the OG Bert?
Thankfully we have biomass fuel now that costs a bit less and is even better for your engine. I use R99 as much as possible!
So its like pre-historic diesel, but made today, but not biodiesel.... I had to look that one up.
@@freedomworxprezackly. In my area dino diesel #2 is currently $4.39 /gal. R99 is $3.73 /gal. The problem is theres only 1 station that has it in my area.
I never use that biodiesel crap, but biomass fuel seems to be where its at. Been using in my Cummins for over a year and have had no issues at all.
@mediamonk100 does it provide similar fuel economy as regular diesel?
@@freedomworx I haven’t conducted any scientific tests, but my average MPG is 20.3, which is actually a bit higher than when I was using dino #2 and getting around 17-19 MPG. Same driving, same load weight.
I have to drive downhill to get that 😉
100% Supply and Demand.
At least 94%. Give or take a few 😉
I hope your bacon pointer healed up. 😉
I had to put it out of its misery 🫡
And thats why we run red diesel. F the feds.
I bought some in Cody, WY last summer. It was cheap and folks were looking out me funny. Didn't figure it out until the Excursion had 44 Gallons of Red Cool-aid in the tank 😂
Not in europe it isnt
Everything is more expensive in Europe 😉
😂
Fuel Prices are no laughing matter 😉
@@freedomworx No they’re not but you are. I like the bacon and bullet pointers.
