There are a lot of assumptions being made in these comments. He didn't show the guy asking for money. Maybe he was starting to be a bit aggressive and wouldn't leave him alone. If someone starts following you around without an invitation, there should never be an expectation to give money. It also makes it more likely that they'll pester other tourists.

There are places in India which are more beautiful than the US, like Kerala, Goa and Lakswadeep. Those are more or less like Hawaii. While Hawaii is one of most expensive places to live and everything is overpriced, Kerala's cost of living is way too low, and even has a great health care at a minor fraction of the health care costs in the US, making it an ideal destination for retirement

I completely agree that India is dogshit but as someone that grew up in a third world country: you have to get used to just not responding to people. Those tuktuk drivers follow you because you're polite and acknowledge them. If you just walk by and don't respond they'll leave you alone.

That's a rare sight, a travelling CZcamsr who speaks his mind. very interesting. I was in India during the mid 90s. Seems a lot hasn't changed much. It is the most disgusting country I've been to. The smell of life and death in the air was ever present. Given that, I enjoyed India for the most part. Rajahstan was great. Not as poor as other areas. I trekked into the Himalayas where there were periodic chai and Maggi noodle stands on the road. Yes, there were touts at bus and other stops but they never really bothered me and I'm a woman. I actually felt bad for them, they're reduced to eking out a living like that and there is such great income inequality. Sad much hasn't changed in 30 years. You know, learning a little bit of Hindi would go a long way. Nepal is a much better place to go to.

I spent 3 weeks in Chennai and I swore never to go back. The constant harassment, pollution and the odours in the street was very off putting. I wish I could say something more positive but I did not enjoy it. Just being honest.
