yes. I can attest that all near death or death-adjacent experiences trigger pattern recognition and trauma processing when retriggered. for me it's alll sorts of things, from dates and places to sensory reminders. there's science on the smell stuff. probably on the music stuff too

I lost my partner 5 months ago and I know it’s not the same as a cancer diagnosis- but you saying that you don’t know how you’ll react to situations that are super every day to everyone else and trying to not be terrified of everything is what I hope for in my life one day. OH. I lived in Missoula for nearly 10 years. Had no idea this was a thing. Last year, around April, saw a bunch of people dressed up as animals while downtown was wondering what the hell was going on. Didn't bother asking anyone, just thought "huh, maybe a furry convention? But weird that there are kids" You just connected the dots for me lol.

Thank you for this. Ten years out from leukemia, it helps to hear that the memory of my own anxiety is something I both have in common with many others, and something I have (mostly) recovered from successfully. Feelings can be both deceptive and truth-telling, kind of like thoughts.

Idk about metaphorical DIFFERENCE per say, but as far as bugs are different from fish goes, I can tell you that shrimps is bugs.

Last year I did the counting down anniversaries thing but for a really positive life affirming change, and I can't help but remember that process with anxiety because that big last anniversary ended up being an extremely traumatic day. So I'm hoping you have the exact opposite experience and your birthday ends up being an unexpectedly great day!

I watch a lot of vlogbrothers when I’ve been drinking and when the picture goes blurry I often wonder if it’s just me or if it’s just how it’s recorded and I then rewatch the same videos to see which one is the correct answer…. 😁👍🏻

It is absolutely NOT the same thing. But a year ago, my dog was dying from cancer. He had 2 more weeks left. And I was anxious about going through these months, reliving one of the hardest times of my life. It’s been hard but better than expected. So, I guess I’m here to say, I definitely relate to this. We’re all getting though it. It’s gonna be ok?

There has been a great deal of opportunistic behavior by even very established educational institutions. The availability of the loans naturally resulted in inflation; however, schools began offering tracks which had no value in the market. Students who came out of the public educational system made poor judgements because they had few to no people in their lives who could offer objective advice. The educational institutions used their gains to build stadiums and add administrators, which drove up the costs further. Meanwhile, these institutions paid educators less, further devaluing the quality of the education that they offered. Please forgive my insensitivity when I say that student loans have done more harm than good. Something was needed to make education more available, but the solution needed active oversight and feedback measures to prevent profiteering and exploitation.

This comment section seems uncharacteristically tone deaf and in some cases unempathetic to the situation being shared. It's disappointing. It's laudably vulnerable to talk about heavier feelings. Hank PLEASE don't worry about sharing such things with us, you don't do it often. So many people feel validated that they've felt this way. If they don't want to watch such occasional serious aspects of videos, they can simply stop it.

I imagine Hank's therapist being a nerdfighter and watching this and making notes for their next session....

Oh Hank, my heart goes out to you vis a vis how very (understandably) anxious you were that day. To not be able to bear standing up says a lot. To have to think "this could be last time", is beyond poignant. We are so very glad these hardest times are passed tense for you. And thank you so much for being open about your strong feelings. You likely know that that example teaches people that their own feelings are valid, as not everyone has learned that. x
