I hope you don't get spammed too much, but I just wanted to share my comment in case it gets lost in the sea of other comments:
I think that during the stream, you should dedicate an hour or two sporadically to some sort of crowd control gaming - you can do it for games like the Sims, Minecraft, Mario and Zelda games, Fall Guys. It would be a way to have a big influx of donations at maybe not-peak streaming times (especially if you announce them early). This would also be a great way to collab with other creators remotely while still bringing in their audiences.

I’m going to miss blearily staring at the P4A stream at 3am but I definitely understand why this change needs to happen. I’m so excited for the P4A!

All the changes seem fine... I am only sad that you won't be streaming the full 48 hours, because a) the insanity escalating in the wee hours and b) as a person living on a European schedule my waking hours might coincide with some of the down time according to American schedule.
But yeah as a longtime Nerdfighter I try to foster the compassion and empathy to be okay with lifting a little bit of weight of your shoulders! So yay P4A!

As an Aussie nerdfighter, same. But I've always need to rewind after p4a to watch the parts I missed anyways so I think this year I'll just be doing it while there's downtime
I do love the 48 hour livestream but I hate missing any of it and I need sleep at some point, so maybe I'll miss less of the stream this year
I thought the same but tbh I can never watch the whole thing live so maybe it just means if I'm awake when they're offline I can rewind and watch bits I missed!

As a mod who feels guilt whenever leaving chat, having a couple breaks will be incredible! @untappedinkwell deserves to rest! The shift of course feels a little weird and like some of the fun “chaos” will be gone but ultimately this seems like a good shift.

Is it... is it bad that I'm sad about the lack of the contiguous 48 hours? (and full disclaimer: I do sleep! I have always slept!) I'm glad that the team will get to rest and that we're gonna get to do this more sustainably, of course, but it is a little sad to see the change, too.
I suppose if it means we all have a little more energy to be extra nerdy while the stream is live, it'll balance out?

@@untappedinkwellit’s not weird at all! I’m definitely sad. To me the wildness of 48 hours of continuous streaming is what makes the P4A the P4A. It makes it stand out to any other live streaming charity event. I like the chaos and everything that comes with it.
But I know that the team at large will enjoy it and who knows, maybe this will be the best P4A yet because of it. I’m really interested to see!
As someone who lives in Europe I'm a little sad that there won't be a stream for some of my prime waking hours, but really that's just a chance to catch up on what I missed while sleeping!

Yeah, as a fellow European I'm also sad about that. Early morning US are my most awake hours, and to me being able to have the livestream in continuously was a big part of the energy of the event. I'm kinda irrationally sad about that tbh, maybe cause there's not many things I look forward to in the year? Oh well...
I hope that the vods will be easily accessible so we can watch what happened while we slept. Cause usually they were impossible to find once a stream was over.
The other changes are nice. But yeah, I'm gonna go be in my feelings for a bit.
Yeah, I hope they put a place to catch up! I'm in Korea, so like 13/17 hours opposite of the USA. It would be cool if they could get more nerdfighters streaming all over the world to keep up the P4A all day ^^
as a fellow europe-dweller, i am a little bit sad about the not-48-continuous-hours change. on the other hand, i think it is an absolutely reasonable measure. also, as someone who likes to sleep, i am looking forward to having a better chance of watching the whole thing this year, even if some of it isn't real-time! waking up and trying to catch up on eight hours of content is impossible, especially with the party still ongoing.
here are a few tips for those worried about accessing parts of the stream after it's switched. videos do generally stay available for at least the duration of p4a, even if they can be hard to find:
- easiest method: if you use an rss reader, that will show the links to each section of the livestream.
- alternate method: before you go to bed, leave the current stream video open in a browser window (you can pause it). typically, they'll refresh the stream and change the link every 10-12 hours or so, so you're very unlikely to miss an entire section. (if you leave toward the end of a section and are asleep/gone for close to 10 hours, be sure to open the live link as soon as you come back, just in case it's due to switch again.)
- not-guaranteed method: previous livestream sections may or may not be listed on the "videos" page on the vlogbrothers channel.
- one last method: check the video comments, nerdfighteria discord, and/or other nerdfighter spaces - there's a good chance current and previous links will have been posted there. if all else fails, you can ask.

The 50/50 split seems like a great change! For me it's always been this tricky game of wanting to get limited perks asap, and wanting to leave some of my perk buying for the 2nd half. Now I don't need to worry about it!
during that down time, you can just play a video of prerecorded stuff. I like the idea of getting a playlist of a bunch of old vlogbrothers videos. That way it’s still all 48 hours. Maybe you can just play like the first year or so.

I imagine it would be difficult to do, logistically, and would still require the behind the scenes team (which are the people we're trying to give a break to) though. If we could make that happen without the behind the scenes team, it'd be excellent!

A little sad about the 48hr stream no longer being a thing, but I have accepted that I have aged out of being able to stay awake for that long, anyway.

I understand, was kind of expecting this when I saw the title, and I agree that it’s not the most easy thing to do, but part of me is still like “aww” because I like watching the stream at 3am

+ i have the same questions! or will the stream like automatically play from a playlist of p4a videos with no host?
My guess is that it would be somewhat akin to the screen that (historically) shows on the stream itself when we we’re collectively watching a designated P4A Video; So, a redirect. But, it will also have the tickers in the upper left hand corner, and a banner across the bottom saying what time the live broadcast will resume & with whom.

NGL, I like the P4A being on for a full 48 hours. I put on CZcams on my tv and I get to fall asleep to the stream and watch it if/when I wake up in the middle of the night
I'm so excited!! Will there be a rough "dark schedule" known in advance? If not, it'll be a great P4A where I never know what's going to happen next! Maybe it's sleep???
This would be also helpful for us people outside the US timezone, I can mess up sleep schedule a bit more if I know some sleep is factored in 😂
great question! We are planning on releasing a stream schedule this year that way folks can plan around the down time. Of course, the universe is weird and schedule changes *might* happen but we will keep to it as best we can!

As a community member I'm actually a massive fan of ALL of these changes. In past years I tried to intentionally split my donations between 1st half and 2nd half (made harder by temporary perks that pop up during specific points in the livestream) - so making it flat 50/50 means I don't have to time my donations at all.
And I always try to catch as much of the livestream as possible. Obviously I can't watch 100% of the 48 hours because I have to be a human, so having it go dark for a bit means I won't be quite so sad about going to sleep at all during p4a.
Oh good, less FOMO for when I go to sleep!
But also very very glad everyone behind the scenes will get to have a proper break. 💜 Can’t wait!

The only thing I'm sad about is the missing late night hours. I LOVE the late night hours, falling asleep in front of my computer, waking up and having no idea what's going on but watching anyway and engaging with chat. It's also love for out ANZ folks! everything else aounds lovely. Just missing those 4 am kitty times...

Just wanted to how much I love this community. I know we're all getting old now and life changes but I love that we still come together to do amazing things like the P4A. I almost always cry with joy at some point during the P4A I love it and I love you guys.
I'm a little bummed about it not being continuous even though I am probably never watching at the hour it goes dark anyway.
In college, I was part of the radio station and we started a tradition of broadcasting 24/7 during finals week and they still continue it to this day. Back then we didn't have an automation system (it was a very controversial idea) so that meant at all times a real person was there playing music, answering phones, and all that. Easy to find college kids willing to be up at 3 or 4am, I suppose?
Just checked my schedule and im so happy because I'm an educator and this p4a is the first weekend of a break so ill be able to reasonably watch pretty much all of it ❤

I am a little sad that the p4a isn't 24/7 going forward, but it's not like i made most of the early hour times anyways.. excited to see what hours it's up and i might actually try to catch more hours knowing the it's not constant this time!!
I have no idea how much work this would be, but for those hours where there aren't live hosts, would it be possible to make an official CZcams playlist of P4A videos people could watch during that time? Part of the appeal of the P4A stream is you can just leave it running while you do things/stare blearily at the screen - a playlist seems like a possible way to continue that spirit without anyone having to be around to monitor chat or do work during the wee hours.
Like I know Hank was a bit...Busy... this year but i am excited for Rax whenever that happens

Saw the title and was worried y’all were going to be making drastic changes-but it seems like all of the things you talk about are either not going to affect me much (ie not streaming at like 2am when I’m asleep anyway) or are going to result in more positive user experiences in addition to being more workable for your team (like the ordering and shipping processes).
As part of the warehouse crew, I’m very thankful for the second thing.
It’s understandable but I still feel really disappointed about the downtime… as a non-US audience who always appreciated the p4a stream being one time of the year I can engage in real-time with the community better esp during the quieter time. I am thankful for nerdfighteria and for everyone behind p4a and I’m sure you all will find a way to make it good but I’ll miss those time :(
As someone who has the stream on almost constantly for the whole weekend, while I'm a little bummed about the stream not being the full 48hrs, it is always a struggle to make myself go to bed in the wee hours of p4a, so this will force me to do so without feeling like I'm missing anything. Very good idea! I saw in another comment that the team is hoping have a schedule up, so we know when to expect the breaks. That'll be so helpful! Thanks so much!

I completely understand that everyone needs breaks and I'm absolutely sure that it's for the better (none of us are getting any younger after all 😅) but I hope this doesn't mean missing out on some of the people we usually get to hang out with in the weirder hours 😊

Splitting the money 50/50 is a good idea. It's been weird in the past knowing that the donation I make is different depending on the time of day in which I make it.

I never fully understood how that worked and always felt like some good charities were getting shorted because I wasn't giving... twice? or whatever? I'm a little sad I won't be able to visit you all mid-insomnia, but sleep is good for all of us. ^_^

Im so glad about the Tiltify change and the bundle change, I remember emailing years ago asking if all my perks could be ahipped together since paying international shipping multiple times is outrageous and decreases my donation. So glad there was finally a way to make that work.

It is quite literally my favorite time of the year along with Pizzamas and I’m just so here for all of it! I hope this year is the most successful of all of them. Lord knows we all need good things to hang on to and this community is a wonderful light to be a part of!
I love that one of the changes is made only to make it easier on the team, its always very great to know that the people in front and behind the scenes aren’t super overwhelmed!
I’m super excited! The changes make a lot of sense, and I think this is the year of logical Nerdfighteria changes to make everyone’s lives easier.
As a nerdfighter abroad it’s a bit disappointing that there will be some hours without programming because those are often the hours I can actually watch.
You had me in the first half with the title but I’m excited to see this project growing and changing for the better.

We all knew he'd say the stream wouldn't be 24/7, we all understand, we all kinda hate it, but we totally understand.
I love the P4A so much every year. I'm so excited, and am celebrating for the P4A team and mods that get a few hours of designated rest during the 48 hours of chaos
As an almost middle-aged man now, I will appreciate the designated sleep times, but will also miss waking up and grabbing a snack to drop in on the 4am streams for a few minutes. I get it though! Makes sense. DFTBA!
P4A not being 48 hours straight is genuinely depressing to me and I'm not sure why. I remember staying up all night around christmas as a kid to watch. I still have John's zombie novella.
So excited for the change in shopping experience! Something I have been wanting in past years, and especially with the change in how funds will be split up this year, it feels like a good move.
This year I turn 17 and so does p4a! Glad to have been part of it for a few years now and honoured to be twins with such an awesome project!

I’m sad that the live won’t be continuous as someone living in Aussie and have like 18h difference… wouldn’t it be great if we can get a remote team in different time zone to handle all that and still stream through most of the 48h? or shorten it to 24h so it’s less on the team.

sounds good. The only one I'm not a fan of is the non-consistant 48 hr livestream. I get it. You don't have the people and downtime is good. But still it was always great that I could tune in whenever I had time and it was always there. Sad to see it go, especially for people living in places where "wee hours of the morning" are "prime time" or, ya know, work 3rd shift :-(

Physical bundle sounds great! It will also save us Europeans money on import fees (at least those of us who pay handling per item), which means we can spend more money on the perks instead!

Last year I got to spend a paycheque on getting the Digital Download Bundle for the very first time, which I had been working towards being able to afford for years. I'm happy that I'll have a new goal in trying to afford the Physical Perks Bundle! (I'm guessing it's going to be a lot more, haha)

As a responsible adult I hereby declare that these changes are reasonable.
Gotta say I’m bummed that it won’t be 48 live hours. Some of my favorite things have come from waking up at 1AM to the joyous realization that something weird is probably happening and I can watch until I fall back asleep.
And I know that it’s basically a wash, but I’ve always enjoyed making sure I donate during the second half of the P4A to show that I am supporting other nerdfighters. Not that the partners in health charity isn’t worthy, it’s just that I want my money to go to things people like me love.
