Part 2 Kayla Accordion Prong Pendant, Public until July 31, 2024
PLEASE NOTE: In this Part 2 of Kayla, I kind of 'go back' to the beginning and show you how to measure for these prongs and make these prongs using Round, Chain and Bent nose pliers in case you don't have the flats or can't get them right now. I basically go through the whole build again but if you have your prong strip and stone and are ready for bale weave and design, you can jump ahead to timestamp 36:31
I think I probably over-talked in this one but I wanted to give a lot of details... and somewhere I made an editing blooper and said something about 14 gauge wire (I meant 14 inches).
I redesigned the back for a cleaner finish.

If you have not seen Part 1 and want to know how to create the prongs using Flat nose pliers, please watch the beginning of Part 1

Let me know what you think and let me know if you need any help or have any questions. I will do another video tutorial using a cabochon for another variation on this pendant. Have fun!
Materials:
Prong wire is 14 inches of 20 gauge, round, soft copper wire
Second Frame wire is 14 inches of 20g or 18g, round, soft copper wire
Have about 10 feet of 28 gauge weaving wire onhand. Cuts and measures are also shown and told in the video.
My stone is 2 inches in diameter (1 inch tall and about 3/4 inch wide) Faceted Oval Quartz
I added a little 3mm copper bead at the end.
Tools:
Flush Cutter
Flat Nose Pliers (heads about 3mm to 4mm wide)
If you're using grid paper and marks, the marks are 1/4 inch marks and you can use Chain Link Pliers to make the prongs.

    I really enjoy watching you. I have been gathering new craft supplies to learn to make jewelry. I am not quite ready to start as it take time to get everything. Can you please recommend wnat store in Canada to get wire / Michaels don’t sell but a few inches no spools . Shopping in usa is to much for me, if you can help that would be great as I can start once I get the wire . Thanks

      I'm so sorry but I have no idea where to buy wire in Canada... a few you might check, maybe they are big enough that they also sell in Canada is... Riogrande.com (Major wire supplier)... and try FireMountainGems.com too, they are a pretty big supplier also. I have searched and seen some Sterling Silver as well as Craft wire and Copper wires on Amazon... I don't know any of the suppliers there, but you might also search and look to see what you might find. Good luck! Thank you for watching!

    Stunning! 😍 I totally understand why you were upset to have to dismantle it. I actually just retired a client because I was constantly having to redo pieces. After each consult ( done each and every step) she would say yes that's what she wanted. Even through the dry fit stage, only to say no upon completion. I was spending way too much time redoing and it was killing the creative process. So sorry you had to take it apart. It truly is beautiful.

    How does one know how deep to make the prongs?? I would like to prong set a 3mm stone!! WOW it's tiny!!

    • @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
      @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Před 2 dny

      That's tiny!!! I'd use 22g round wire (maybe 24), the prongs need to capture the stone just under the Ridge and need to come down onto the stone just over the Ridge... it's a hard call but I'd think that 2 or 3mm long will work for your prongs. Practice with a similar stone so you don't accidently scratch on your intended stone... for these tiny prongs, you can probably use chain nose pliers... use the tip between them, the space between the prongs needs to be very tiny too... I would set that stone with four prongs... three is hard for me, but you can do 3 prongs too... Let me know how you do, Sandy. Good luck! Lots of light, work over a felt or towel so the stone doesn't bounce off the table if dropped. Hugs! Brave soul! Teeny tiny stones are a challenge for me, so I admire your effort! xoxo

      @@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Thanks for the info! I am gunna keep trying, even if I don't get it... I am tenacious! I'm wondering if 3mm IS too small!! LOL

    • @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
      @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Před dnem

      Believe it or not, 3mm is a common size for channel setting stones as well as prong style. Took me almost a year to learn to set these tiny stones. If you are seeting more than one, you can do a channel set... check your members' tutorial called Josephina Opal. ❣️❤️

    Your tutorials get more and more beautiful! I'm not sure I'm ready to do this😂 also you said you were determining the radius of the stone with the graph paper (great hack BTW), but it's really the circumference which on a circle, is 2x radius x pi...Im good at maths but just starting doing prongs😢❤❤❤

    • @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
      @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Před 4 dny

      Thank you so much, Alice! I'm not sure what comes out of my mouth sometimes, I meant circumference...and I mistakenly said diameter. This formula works great for the soldered bezel, but it's not accurate for wire wrap because we don't bring our wire ends back together tip to tip (but it can probably get you close for the cir., but we need more wire), so I try to stay away from introducing any math other than really simple ways to get the measures needed. Thank you again so much for watching! xoxo Check out my Rock, Paper, Scissors video on how I get the length for the rest of the wire needed in for the wire wrapped pendant, if you're interested ;) Thanks again! czcams.com/video/dil9ei884Pg/video.html

    Could this design be used for a bigger cab using 16 gauge? If so, what would be the maximum sized cab?

    • @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
      @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Před 4 dny

      Good morning, Seer! This is a tight wrap... it's using 18g, square soft wire on a small cab... if you size up to 16g, on the same size stone, it will be difficult on the bigger wire... you can try this on a cab that is perhaps 10 to 12mm... maybe 14mm... still keep in mind that this wrap will be hard on your hands at 16g. I hope that helps! Please keep me posted on how you do. Welcome again, to Membership!❤️🙏❤️

    How do you decide what chains or necklaces to put on pendants and what lengths?

    • @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
      @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Před 6 dny

      Good morning, Dale! I use standard chains... I like 1.5mm ball chain (I have 2 videos showing how to do the ends) and for silver and gold pieces, I like 1.5mm Box Chain (they come already finished)... I find that the standard comfortable size for pendants is 22 to 24 inches (then you can add a 2 inch extender if they want longer)... Please feel free to ask this in Livestream today or tomorrow if you are attending, we can chat more about it and I do have source links in previous videos for where to get the chain... I can also send you the links after Livestream. I hope that helps for now!
