Not too long ago, i chased CN 584 from London Ontario, to St Thomas. The train was powered by 3 GP9rm locomotives, the oldest that are active on CN's roster. Back in June, i was waiting for a possible heritage unit on the CP Galt Sub in Woodstock. The heritage unit never showed up, but i caught this consolation prize which was almost better. CP T69 unexpectedly showed up and speed towards me, lead by GP38AC 3018, still in classic Action Red!

Sadly, Otis passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024. He would've been 13 years old in June. He was well loved and will always be remembered.

Great video! Thanks for uploading this! I was suprised to see that they installed gates at the Lott Road crossing replacing those crossbucks that have been there for years. They must have been installed just recently because I don't remember seeing them when I rode behind #110 for the easter excursions.
Thank you! I never realized that there were crossbucks there before. This is my first visit to the railroad. It's a nice little operation.

8:35 The dual beam headlight isn't the only thing I have noticed! I've also noticed that the 1225's leading, trailing, and Tender trucks were equipped with Roller Bearings!

How often does this train go out to St Thomas? Do they stop anywhere else besides formet? It’s rare to see this train even as a life long Londoner
They come a couple time a week I see one yesterday day an heard another today I think maybe 3 times a week there and back but could be 4 times a week

'Just a question here...(and I should know this...), but what's the exact mileage does the '25 run one way. Are there run-by's, etc.? I'm guessing about 25-30 miles and it's a GRAND show, but I'm looking at your ticket prices and YIKES !!! (Which I get), it's a little too rich for my blood. TOO bad though as you could possibly hook-up on the GTW's Holly Sub at Durand and perhaps run periodic trips to Milwaukee Jct. in Detroit and back. Problem being though is there's a ZERO way to turn the locomotive, (now a days), which would call for using the diamond and do a back and forth move over existing / former NYC and CP,, DT&I etc. trackage. I don't see that happening anytime soon. That's STILL called A SERIOUSLY-BUSY INTERSECTION? But isn't there a"WYE" North of Detroit where this could happen? Probably not and I digress.

I did recognize many of the places you filmed from my one visit there in the OBRY's final months as well as for the 'Last Day' film I made. perhaps someone can shed some light on a couple of things, The cabooses on the front instead of the the back. and why 2 diesels?
The cabooses are for passengers I believe. And the diesel is there to lead the train back to Owosso from Ashley, because there is no turntable or runaround for the 1225 to use.

Vert cool. Definitely would like to see those old loco in action day. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of options in Canada.
Yeah, there aren't many operating steamers in Canada sadly. And most of them are small (the exception being CP 2816) This was the first big steam locomotive i've ever seen in operation and it's an amazing sight. I gotta get my channel back on track, i had so much momentum and then i sorta got busy, and now i gotta try to revive it and get the ball rolling again.

This train (which I rode in the 90s) is exactly how I imagine Paul Dempster travelling around Ontario with Wanless’s World of Wonders.
Sounds like the old girl needs some valve gear/running gear work. Timing is way off on that third chuff.
From what i've heard (take it with a grain of salt) the railway has squeezed just about every bit of life out of this old girl. She needs a new boiler (the current one is about a century old) and her running gear and frame are 140 years old. She only runs a couple times a year and when it does, they go easy on her.
@@thebrantfordrailfan Seems like it might be about time to retire her for good then, to preserve the historic materials. Keep her as original as possible.
@@PowerTrain611 Maybe, she is a bit tired for sure, but she recently passed a boiler inspection so she has some life left, but not as much as she did years ago. I'm not saying she's going anywhere just yet, but it would be a good idea to see her run while you still can.
