If you must leave your dog alone. This is what works for me. Early morning walk before work and lots of affection. I feed my dogs after the walks. I come back home to feed them and walk out with no goodbyes and unnecessary affection or attention. If your dog jumps on you or your company, learn to ignore this behavior. Correct them by walking into your home by walking past them. No talking no eye contact and no touching until you are ready to relax and calm down. Then when your dog is calm you can give affection. Importantly, don’t baby talk to dogs. It ends up making you and the dog weak. Best of luck with your pets ❤❤

We humans can learn a lot from animals in general, and Dogs even more so.

Dogs are the best - taught me everything I ever needed to know - loyalty, love, responsibility, mindfulness and death. I think about all my past dogs every day without fail. When I die I hope to see them again

I give him a treat. When I come back, he eats it. He never touches it while I’m gone. He’s too busy watching out the window for my return.

It may be a good idea to have several dogs so they are never alone.

Rawhides are NOT healthy for dogs. Most are treated with dangerous chemicals, can cause choking, intestinal blockages, and exposure to toxic chemicals.

My grandson's golden retriever always grabs my sleeve and won't let go, doesn't pull on it just grabs it, then I sit down and he has to sit on my lap 😅, I'm short and he's big and it is funny to see

I have had Chihuahuas my whole life.right now I have 3 Chihuahuas and a daschund have had lots of daschunds.all have been wonderful...all sweet dogs.love bugs.They are good watch dogs.three mos ago I adopted a starving dog who has been on the streets she's now a perfect weight..healthy. And loving.

Humans are not "parents" to a dog. They are parents to other humans.

So much here. My dogs come to me when they have an issue. My first puppy came to me and lay down at my feet. He had been playing with a stick and had a twig stuck up against the roof of his mouth. My current dog is so expressive. I can point at the door and say outside? He will sit down for no. If he wants something he will lift his right paw. He can tell if I’m getting too excited when working with my cows and will go sit by the house and watch from a distance. 😂 I could go on but I think I learned just as much from them as they have from me.

Surprised there's no mention here of a CRATE. Comfort with a crate is key to training dogs to feel safe alone for several hours without wandering the house, making a mess, or finding some other unhealthy outlet for anxiety

I am on my 4th dog since 1973. They all lived long lives. I Have labradoodle who sleeps with me. I have learned so much over the years about my dogs. They were all happy dogs. My former dog lived up to 16 years. Each of them were unique in their own way. Can’t live without them! Saying goodbye is the most difficult.
